The Good, The Bad and The Barney Butter

0

The Good: Ben and I recently went to San Francisco and on our 9 mile round trip walk (seriously) from our hotel to Japantown and back, we came across a Whole Foods store. Score! I haven’t been to a Whole Foods since I left Minneapolis and they are just a foodie’s paradise :) I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but I kid you not, the first thing I thought of was “omg what if they have Barney Butter?!” I have been hearing about Barney Butter on food blogs for months, and months, but have not been able to get my hands on a single drop! Sure, I could order a jar online but, ugh, I just couldn’t stomach paying the same amount in shipping as the cost of the jar itself! So anways, we walk into Whole Foods and my eyes glaze as they scan over heaps and heaps of perfectly washed, polished and stacked fruits and vegetables. Ben and I roamed the isles, putting one fabulous whole foodie item after another into our cart…when…we come to the peanut butter section. I held my breath and no joke, screeched audibly when I saw BARNEY BUTTER!!!!! I snatched up a jar and we headed straight for the checkout!! My vacation was whole as far as I was concerned :D Ok, that’s just crazy, but seriously I was p-u-m-p-e-d.

The Bad: We get to the airport at the end of our vacation, I check my bag and we head towards security. My shoes, jacket and purse pass through the x-ray inspection fine – and then the conveyer belt stops…on my carry-on bag…it’s being inspected…then pulled…they take my bag aside and come back 2 minutes later – Barney Butter jar in hand!! NOOOOO! I had completely forgotten to put the jar into my checked bag!! It was swiftly taken away and I was left as one very sad, almond butterless girl - I didn’t taste a lick of that entire jar!

The Barney Butter: Redemption is mine! The fabulous people at Barney Butter recently shipped out free samples of their insanely popular almond butter and my samples came yesterday! YAHOO! I immediately knew where the first packet was destined to appear – my morning oatmeal, of course! I swirled that baby in and oh.my.gosh. – it was so creamy, so thick, so almondy!!! It was 100% perfect addition to my banana oatmeal – I am so glad I now know the joys of Barney Butter!!!

Well lunch certainly can’t hold a candle to breakfast…but it’s still good - an encore of last night’s taco salad – can’t wait to dig in, that salad was seriously great last night!

And a sliced, Braeuburn apple:

I’ve got meetings galore today, so an afternoon getaway either outside or on the treadmill is out of the question. Got my morning mom walk in and I believe it’s supposed to stay in the upper 50′s today, so perhaps another outdoor run is in the cards? Could I be so lucky??

So obviously I was pretty pumped about my Barney Butter sample…are there any foods that get you that excited about? Or, am I just nuts?! (pun intended)

Today was my first time trying Barney Butter too! Gotta love the free packets. Now I know what all the fuss is about.

I get pretty excited about breakfast foods in general, but my fav snack is yogurt with granola & berries. Yum!

I hate security at airports – so sad! But also happy you got some free samples :) I have never had Barney Butter, but I hear it’s amazing.
