3am Wake Up Call

10

You guys…

At 3:00am this morning I started hearing…noises. Unrecognizable noises… something like a saw blade on metal meets Satan’s death moan meets unhuman primal screaming. I was in one of those sleep states where you’re half awake, but you still think you might be dreaming, so for about 5 minutes I laid there listening - my sleeping half battling with my awake half. Then I hear this SHRIEK and I sat up straight in bed. The noises were coming from my backyard…O.M.G!!!!! I pulled back the window shade, and jumped like 2 feet in the air – there were two black cats having a death duel in my backyard, 10 feet outside my window!!!!! Ok,

  1. I don’t own any cats
  2. I have a fenced in yard

How did they get in there? What were they fighting about? Where did TWO black cats come from? I feel as though the odds of having TWO black cats fighting, rather than a yellow cat fighting a black cat or something is extremely low! And anyways – why where they in my yard??? Needless to say, this was one of the creepiest thing I have ever seen. Once my wits returned, I shouted, “AHHHH Ben!” and he sat straight up and went “AHHHH what????!!!!” and then I laughed. Note to self: do not wake a sleeping man by screaming his name at 3:00 in the morning. I told him what was going on and asked him what we should do – he said just bang on the window, so I did and they seriously booked it like two cats out of hell. I felt really icky. I’m really superstitious and this just didn’t sit right with me. We both laid awake for the next hour and half or so until I fell into a light sleep and woke back up at 6.

To cheer myself up, I made yet ANOTHER batch of fig oats – fear not people, the fig bender is coming to an end for now, I have other plans for the rest of my figs, muwahahaha. A maple syrup and coconut toupee accompanied the figs and made for the best bowl ever. All other oatmeal bowls will now be compared to this one!!!

Lunch is drumroll please…leftovers! I’m really excited for these too. Cantaloupe and a mustard slathered brat on a throne of sauerkraut. If you’re gagging, I understand – I have eclectic tastes sometimes :D

Since both breakfast and lunch are repeats of recent meals, I decided to jazz up this post with a little poll…an Iowa Girl Eats poll :) Since this blog is about eating well, running far and traveling often, I have come up with the following questions:

  1. If you had to eat one healthy item for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  2. If you had to eat one un-healthy item for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  3. What fitness related goal are you most proud of?
  4. What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been (local, national or international)?
  5. Where are you just dying to go next (local, national or international)?

My answers are: 1. Roasted brussell sprouts. 2. Cinnamon Toast Crunch (dry, no milk) 3. Running a half marathon in the blinding rain 4. JAPAN!!! 5. Tie: Amalfi Coast, Italy and Lake Loiuse in Canda.

Sound off peeps – I want to hear your answers!

    Kristin,
I just recently came across your blog and started reading it because I noticed you used to live in Minneapolis around lake calhoun and I do too! I like your blog and just have to comment about those 2 cats!! SAME Thing happened to me the other night…but with 2 racoons. I woke up to shrieking (the worst noise I had heard) and like a screaming around 2 am.
I thought it was so ironic that you just wrote about this on your blog when I just wrote about it on my blog a few days ago!! you can even see for yourself. http://www.lovelo.wordpress.com

    Keep it up,
    Lauren

What a fun poll! My answers are…
    1. Some sort of fruit…bananas? Cantaloupe? Pineapple? I like Megan’s idea of fruit salad as well.
    2. Either my Mom’s homemade sausage pizza (sauce and dough completely from scratch) or Chocolate Truffle Cake from The Clubhouse in Oakbrook, IL.
    3. I have lots of fun sports related accomplishments from back in the day…but fitness? I guess the fact that I’ve consistently exercised almost daily for the last 5 years.
    4. My favorite place is my family’s condo on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
    5. Paris! I know it’s cliche, and I have even been there before, but I’m dying to go back!

Very cute breakfast! I like that you are getting creative with the figs! Also the mango smoothie from the post above looks delicious! I always thinks I need to add 34098324 ingredients to my smoothie, I should try just fruit and ice for a “dessert”
