Happy Saturday!!
I just got back from the Farmer’s Market with my Mom – it was opening day and it was PACKED!! We got there around 8:30 and the crowd wasn’t too bad - but by 9:00, it was hard to walk without stepping on a dog or running into a stroller! ! Here are some pictures:
Not many people there yet…my mom bought a ton of tomato plants from this booth.

Gorgeous cut and potted flowers:

And the STAR of the farmer’s market and what my Mom and I split every single time we go…Bavarian Cream Pillow Puffs from the Vander Ploeg Baker in Pella, IA!!! These are INSANELY good – a delictable Dutch treat that we are obsessed with!!! It’s puff pastry filled with real Bavarian Cream and topped with coarse sugar crystals. Heaven in puff pastry form!

Let’s just say the Dutch know what they’re doing!!! It’s true that this is NOT healthy eats, but it’s a special treat that I split with my mom, so once in a while – it’s fine!

Then, I picked up some herbs to plant for the summer, came home and potted them! So jazzed – last summer I just planted basil and we were literally eating it every single night in one form or another, there was sooooo much! This year I only got one basil plant and mixed in some chocolate mint (incredible!!), thyme and cilantro (my fave herb
)

Cilantro:

CHOCOLATE MINT!!! Can you tell I’m excited for this?!

Well I’m off to put on my fanciest hat and dress to attend the race track and watch the Kentucky Derby. Just kidding, I’ll probably wear jeans and a blouse
Ben and I have only ever been to one other race track (in Minnesota) and we kept our bets at around $2. I think we bet on like 2 races – so, yeah we’re high rollers
I think we’ll probably keep the money committment level the same as last time, but it will be a great time nonetheless.
Ugh, it’s just a gorgeous day here today and I can’t wait to spend it outside – have a great day guys!!
Do you guys like herbs? What’s your favorite herb? What dishes do you like to put them in?
Like I said, I am just in LOVE with cilantro – so fresh, so unique and so freaking delicious. I like herbs because you can really punch up the flavor of a dish without having to add a ton of ingredients and/or fat!!
