Iowa: It's Cooler Than You Think

0

So I was at this website today – Generation Iowa, which is a website for young Iowans – and noticed that the tagline underneath their logo changes every time you refresh the page. Holy cow they were all so true – I was cracking.up.:

IOWA

  • Because 2,982,085 people can’t be wrong.
  • It’s cooler than you think.
  • Where 30 miles = 30 minutes or less
  • Friends don’t let friends leave Iowa.
  • More livable than 88% of the U.S.
  • Our idols don’t need rehab.
  • Not a single outbreak of bubonic plague.

Ohhhh, hilarious! This reminded me of those email forwards you get that are like “You know you grew up in the 80′s when…” and you literally say “yes!” to every single item. HA!

What would your state’s tagline be?

So, I just don’t know what to think about the weather today! By the way, we Iowan’s like to talk about the weather a lot. A LOT. Which is why you’ll read about it on my blog a lot! It can change in the blink of an eye folks!! Anyways – today we’ve alternated between cool then hot…rain then sunshine. Literally every half hour is producing a different weather pattern! It made it difficult to decide whether or not I was going to go to the gym, or hit the trail. I took my chances and hit the trail! I only ran 4.25 miles tonight, because I’m heading into the kitchen to bake later tonight. Mmmmmm… I’m trying out some new recipes – I’ll fill you in sometime soon!

For dinner I had some bacon wrapped turkey breasts in the fridge that I needed to use, but I didn’t want to give you guys a repeat of this or this. So I cut the breasts up and stir-fried them in a little wok oil (oil blend with garlic, sesame & ginger flavor, really good!!) with some zucchini and served it over some brown rice! This smelled SOOO good as it was cooking!

By the way – I don’t know if  ever told you guys this, but I don’t eat the bacon around my bacon-wrapped turkey breasts. I just like the flavor it gives the meat.

Anyways, my stir fry sauce was a little bit of soy sauce + water (to make low sodium soy sauce – a sushi chef told me once that that’s all it is!) + chicken broth. I added a splash of mirin, some ground ginger and a few tablespoons of garlic in there too, for good measure. This blend was absolutely PERFECT. I’m sorry I didn’t measure – this was truly a sprinkle of this, a dash of that, kind of sauce – but it was ohhh so good.

I was curious as to what a turkey stir fry would taste like – and it didn’t disappoint! It was super moist and the brown rice was really chewy and delicious!

I just love those turkey breasts by the way. They are just the perfect size – about 4 ounces – and are so quick and easy to cook in a variety of ways! Plus, did you know that turkey is naturally low in fat, contains only one gram of fat per ounce AND one 4 once portion provides 65% of your daily value for protein?? Winner!!

Well my pink, kitchen-aid mixer is calling my name – it’s time to get my BAKE ON!

Oh also, for you Ugly Betty fans, we’ve got a new episode tonight! I just love that America Ferrera!!

Who’s your favorite actress? My favorite television actress would probably have to be Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: SVU. My favorite film actress…Kristin Bell. She’s got a great name… ;)
