So I was at this website today – Generation Iowa, which is a website for young Iowans – and noticed that the tagline underneath their logo changes every time you refresh the page. Holy cow they were all so true – I was cracking.up.:
IOWA
- Because 2,982,085 people can’t be wrong.
- It’s cooler than you think.
- Where 30 miles = 30 minutes or less
- Friends don’t let friends leave Iowa.
- More livable than 88% of the U.S.
- Our idols don’t need rehab.
- Not a single outbreak of bubonic plague.

Ohhhh, hilarious! This reminded me of those email forwards you get that are like “You know you grew up in the 80′s when…” and you literally say “yes!” to every single item. HA!
What would your state’s tagline be?
So, I just don’t know what to think about the weather today! By the way, we Iowan’s like to talk about the weather a lot. A LOT. Which is why you’ll read about it on my blog a lot! It can change in the blink of an eye folks!! Anyways – today we’ve alternated between cool then hot…rain then sunshine. Literally every half hour is producing a different weather pattern! It made it difficult to decide whether or not I was going to go to the gym, or hit the trail. I took my chances and hit the trail! I only ran 4.25 miles tonight, because I’m heading into the kitchen to bake later tonight. Mmmmmm… I’m trying out some new recipes – I’ll fill you in sometime soon!

For dinner I had some bacon wrapped turkey breasts in the fridge that I needed to use, but I didn’t want to give you guys a repeat of this or this. So I cut the breasts up and stir-fried them in a little wok oil (oil blend with garlic, sesame & ginger flavor, really good!!) with some zucchini and served it over some brown rice! This smelled SOOO good as it was cooking!

By the way – I don’t know if ever told you guys this, but I don’t eat the bacon around my bacon-wrapped turkey breasts. I just like the flavor it gives the meat.
Anyways, my stir fry sauce was a little bit of soy sauce + water (to make low sodium soy sauce – a sushi chef told me once that that’s all it is!) + chicken broth. I added a splash of mirin, some ground ginger and a few tablespoons of garlic in there too, for good measure. This blend was absolutely PERFECT. I’m sorry I didn’t measure – this was truly a sprinkle of this, a dash of that, kind of sauce – but it was ohhh so good.

I was curious as to what a turkey stir fry would taste like – and it didn’t disappoint! It was super moist and the brown rice was really chewy and delicious!

I just love those turkey breasts by the way. They are just the perfect size – about 4 ounces – and are so quick and easy to cook in a variety of ways! Plus, did you know that turkey is naturally low in fat, contains only one gram of fat per ounce AND one 4 once portion provides 65% of your daily value for protein?? Winner!!
Well my pink, kitchen-aid mixer is calling my name – it’s time to get my BAKE ON!

Oh also, for you Ugly Betty fans, we’ve got a new episode tonight! I just love that America Ferrera!!
Who’s your favorite actress? My favorite television actress would probably have to be Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: SVU. My favorite film actress…Kristin Bell. She’s got a great name…

I ADORE your mixer!!
I love the Iowa pride! My dad is from there and I have to say my main annoyance when I go back to visit is the way I’m forced to eat (lack of options for fresh produce, deep fried, full fat everything). I love your blog:). It’s very refreshing.
I know, right? I’m proud of Iowa though – you can definitly see the attempts being made to get healthified!
Your meal looks soooooo good!! YUM!
Love Mariska Hargitay! One of my favs, if not my fav.
Oh my gahhhhhhh a pink kitchenaid. I’m so jealous!
I LOVE Ugly Betty but I’m so behind! I need to rent season two on DVD!
So jeal of the pink mixer! I really like the idea of eating the bacon wrapped turkey minus bacon! I don’t discriminate against meats but bacon does gross me out a little, but i loove the smell and i imagine it’s great flavoring!
Yes! do it soon – so good!
I think Iowa is a cool place. The education system is great.
I really like Anne Hatheway. She’s so pretty and talented. Keira Knightly has good films too, although is a bit skeletal for my taste.
Love the mixer!!! And Mariska Hargitay… definitely my favorite too!! <333 SVU!!
I’m from Jersey.. and I would say the thing we’re most famous for is the Jersey shore and the million diners we have!
Us PA girls talk about the weather quite often as well. We also say PA and never Pennslyvania. My hubby and I just realized this. I can’t really think of any other state that uses the abbreviation rather than just saying the name, maybe because Pennslyvania is a long one?!?
Your stir fry looks fabulous. And funny thing about the soy sauce, I never thought about it, but that makes perfect sense. Duh!
Hope you had a wonderful Thursday and I too am so glad tomorrow is Friday!
Hi fellow Iowan! I left a comment on another post of yours, no I’m not a stalker, it’s just nice to see someone that talks about the weather as much as I do!
One of my favorite film actresses Scarlett johansson..but i have so many its hard to name..and dare I say Angelina Jolie.
i definitely rate america as one of my favorite actresses. love her!
i don’t know what i’d think of MD.. i’ve pretty much been here my whole life. i just feel like we have least kind of natural disasters =) byt others might disagree. see, i love humidity. so i love it here. Let’s see– Summers get nice & hot! Fall, it stays pretty warm through the end of october though we might have a few cold days here and there. Winter doesn’t really kick into gear until december. there’s hardly any snow — which i’m ok with because people can’t drive here! and spring is gorgeous! though it has been rainy this may! a lot! we don’t get too many crazy weather stuff like hurricanes, we might get the after effect, or tornados– well those are usually to the west of me. nothing too scary! like earth quakes, fires. or crazy blizzards. that’s just me =) i am totally biased.
Your stir-fry looks amazing. Great idea for the sauce! It has inspired me to make some stir fry for myself ASAP.
I’m the same way about bacon, I like the flavor it gives to other meats but I can’t bring myself to eat it.
Tagline: “Colorado – If you don’t like the weather just wait 10 minutes.”
If you want the BEST wok oil-try Rice Oil-it has a smoke point of 490 and it has more antioxidants and vitamin E than oilive oil!!!
