Thanks Heavens for the 80/20 Rule

Good evening!

Well Ben finally made it home and we enjoyed a glass of wine together. Good times :)

Neither of us really felt like cooking tonight so we decided to split some Kung Pao Chicken takeout from one of our favorite restaurants nearby. When I think of Asian takeout I think ew – fried, heavy, saucy, greasy, stomach turning…but not this stuff! The sauce is scant yet still present, light not greasy and the chicken hunks are all white meat and just as tender as can be. I absolutely LOVE this dish!

Here’s my portion:

This has the perfect amount of spice!

Love the nutiness from the peanuts & cashews, too!

For dessert we had…sugar cookies! I tried out two different recipes and a couple of different baking methods (temperature, time, etc.) and I think I found the winning combination. Reasons why I’m cooking sugar cookies to come later on :) Also, I love sprinkles so I doused my cookies in them. They were heavenly.

I realize this meal isn’t the picture of health – but I think splurges once in awhile help keep me from going absolutely insane. If I try and restrict or keep myself from certain foods, I just end up going a little nutty when I finally do have them. Long live the 80/20 rule!

Tonight Ben and I are hangin’ out. We might have another glass of wine and will be watching the Celtics hopefully crush the Magic. Otherwise, I’ll have a very cranky husband on hand!

What’s your favorite cookie? Mine are these chocolate chip cookies – seriously, they are incredible.  Although, these babies come in as a close second!

I love chocolate chip cookies!! Especially dark chocolate chip ones. I do love sugar cookies though.. and oatmeal cookies… and peanut butter cookies… and gingerbread cookies… oh the possibilities are endless!! <3 your dinner too! Splurging every so often is definitely okay!! It’s Friday too, and that’s always reason to splurge. Have a good weekend!!

I love the Quaker Oats recipe for vanishing oatmeal raisin cookies but I usually use chocolate chips instead of raisins. The dough is seriously to die for- and the cookies are pretty good too ;)

Beautiful pics. I love the one with the pepper in the middle. And the cookies!

My favorite cookie is probably oatmeal chocolate chip. Monster cookies – w/oatmeal, choc. chips, m&ms, and PB are fabulous too.

Favorite cookie.. molasses ginger cookies..they’re soft and chewy. Also Oatmeal raisin. but, i will say that I’d prefer cookie dough over cookies anyday.. preferably chocolate chip. Yum

The cookies are beautiful…I love anything pink! But, my favorite cookie has got to be chocolate chip!

And, I totally agree with you on the 80/20 rule. In fact, I’m a dietitian and I use that as a discussion point with my clients/patients who are working on weight loss/weight maintenance.

    Have a great weekend!

Yummmm…. I LOVE cookies. It is my favorite dessert! It is hard to pick a favorite type – I think it would have to be chocolate chip, but I also love these pumpkin chocolate chip cookies I make and I love oatmeal raisin cookies too. I am with Lauren on the cookie dough!
I whole-heartedly endorse the 80/20 rule. I think it is such a healthy attitude to have towards eating and living!
