An Eggcellent Morning

Good morning everyone!!

As much as I LOVE to travel – there is something to be said for getting back into a routine – I’m such a routine type of person…are you?

As part of getting back into my normal routine, I went on my first mom walk since last Wednesday! We were plagued by rain for most of last week and weren’t able to go, so I was very excited to get back out there. I can definitely tell the difference between days where I’ve started off with a little bit of exercise vs not. I feel MUCH better when I do!

So I didn’t get a chance to go grocery shopping after we got home last night and my fresh food rations are loooow right now – so, I made eggs and toast for breakfast! I do love a hot plate of eggs :) I had 1 whole egg + 2 egg whites + splash of water + S&P.

It’s not a sweet, delicious bowl of oats, but sometimes it’s good to change things up! These were nice and fluffy – flecked with some salt and pepper.

Mmmm nothing better than hot, freshly buttered toast! I smeared Barney Butter on one piece!

Oh, I wanted to tell you, I’ve added my Hal Higdon half-marathon training schedule to the Run Often tab at the top of the site! I’ll update it every Sunday with the coming weeks’ schedule, then cross out and provide the updated workout activity if something changes during the week. Week one went really well, except that I took an extra rest day on Sunday. I think that’s ok though – one missed run won’t kill me.  According to Hal, today’s workout is supposed to be stretch + strengthen, but I’m going to…ZUMBA!!

I have been looking for Zumba classes in my area forever and my sister-in-law emailed me last week to tell me that our gym just added classes! In case you don’t know:

Zumba fuses hypnotic latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms, and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.

I am SO excited to go! Both Kerry (My S-I-L) and I are/were dancers, so I’m thinking this is going to be right up our ally!!

For lunch today I packed a cold version of this – a Cheese Sandwich with Franks Buffalo Hot Sauce! Yay – I’m so excited!

Note on my bread – usually I only eat 100% whole wheat bread, but this Sarah Lee Whole Wheat White (which is actually only 30% wheat :( ) was suuuuuper on sale last week and I just couldn’t bear to spend three more dollars on a loaf of bread when this one was so inexpensive! Anyways, I think this ‘wich going to taste really good cold!

Tonight, I have something very delicious in mind for dinner – can’t wait!

Question #1: Have you ever tried Zumba? Did you like it? Do you like trying “unconventional” types of workouts?

Question #2: Did anyone see “Angels & Demons” or “Earth” this weekend at the movie theater? I want to see both SO BAD, but if they’re “renter” quality, then I may just wait!

    Mmmm if there is a good combo out there, it’s cheese and hot sauce. I like to make blue cheese, chicken and hot sauce sammies, but I never thought of using the sauce as a dipper. Thanks!

    Sounds like you had a really fun weekend!

    1. I haven’t tried Zumba yet; it’s on my list, along with Hip-Hop Abs (LOL). What gym in DSM has the class? I love unusual/dance types of workouts, but my previous experience with them hasn’t really been sweat-inducing–they are either too hard of footwork (so I stand and stare a lot, LOL) or too simple. My major problem is that while I have rhythm, it takes me a while to figure out complicated footwork on harder videos (esp if there are arms, too).

    I have tried a belly-dance fitness video (definitely a no for me!), I saved a hip-hop one from FitTV (way fun and definitely a sweat-inducing video!), Dancing with the Stars (very easy) and get this–Dirty Dancing the Workout!! (way fun but easy).

    My go-to video is 30Day Shred (too scared to try the 3rd circuit–stuck on 2nd one!), with sprinkles of JM’s Boost Your Metabolism and Biggest Loser Cardio Season 3.

    2. I haven’t seen either movie, but I did read the book Angels and Demons back when it first came out–the book was just as good as The Da Vinci Code!

    Yummy, the eggs look delish! I love scrambled eggs! I so enjoyed reading about your weekend, it looked like so much fun!

    I have never tried Zumba, I’ll be interested to hear your review!

    And we haven’t seen either of those movies, but my friend saw Earth with her daughter and they said it was sort of boring – kind of like being in the science class in the 8th grade, watching one of those mandatory videos. LOL!

    I’m a total routine person! I also like traveling, but I really do enjoy my routine (especially my breakfasts)!

    I’ve never tried Zumba– I’m not so good of a dancer! I think it’d be fun if I could keep up, but I kinda doubt my ability! haha. Let me know what you think– I bet you’ll have a lot of fun :D

    I have’t seen Angels and Demons yet, but I want to!

    Your breakfast looked great, I think I’ll have good old eggs and toast tomorrow morning. My mom has tried Zumba and loved it. She said it was really fun and energetic, I haven’t found a place near me that does it. I’m interested to see what you think!

    Yum, I love scrambled eggs. I haven`t tried zumba and I would love to! I`ve done a bit of salsa dancing in the fast and zumba seems like a lot of fun.

    I loved that video! I so wish I could do that! I have been tempted to try zumba but I haven’t made it there yet. I wish I could dance. Sometimes when I’m running with my ipod I’ll pretend I’m dancing (in my head)! Or if I’m at home on the treadmill I’ll kind of dance… I really wish I had some coordination!

    I’m sure you’ll have a great time though.

    Hey, I’m from Iowa originally but live in Utah and I teach Zumba. It’s fantastic fun; I’m pretty sure you’re gonna love it. If your teacher is a good one, Zumba will be simple, easy to follow, and fun. The hour will fly by.

    I would totally say that Angels and Demons is a movie that you HAVE to see in the movie theaters… I loved it and was on the edge of my seat the entire time… I would totally recommend that you see it as soon as you get time!! :)

    I’m all about the routine! I love visiting other places but it’s just so nice to be in your own house and able to do things your way, especially after you’ve been gone. I want to try Zumba! I think it wouldn’t be that great of a workout for some reason though. I’m curious to see what you think.

    I am SUCH a planner/routine person as well. So, I get you there. I wish I liked eggs, but I don’t. I usually cook them for my boyfriend on the weekends, and they smell soo good. Maybe I’ll have to force feed them to myself for a bit, to enjoy them later, hah ha

    By the way, I have no idea why my previous comment went to my “coupon website” lol, I definitely edited my profile after seeing that mistake. Whoops!!

    Hey Kristin,

    I just finished up with a zumba class series. I really enjoyed it; however, the instructor was a bit odd. I would definitely do it again, so long as this crazy woman was not teaching.

    It’s a lot of fun and a great workout. Good luck, hope you enjoy it!
