Off to the Races!

Good morning!

I’m up early to get to the Dam to Dam 5k race! Here’s a little history behind the race:

Dam to Dam is a classic race. It starts as many runs did in the ’70s; in the country with a early morning start. The start is quiet and peaceful. The first 10K represents Iowa’s best–cornfields beginning their journey toward harvest. The last 10K is all urban; complete with city parks, traffic and concrete. The finish represents the a new era running style with a downtown finish in the shadow of high rise buildings.

This description is so Iowa…I love it! And while I won’t be running through cornfields, because I’ll be doing the “urban” 5k, it should be blast. I love being with other runners – the adrenaline you get from running in a pack is awesome!

For pre-race fuel, I hydrated:

And had a CLIF Bar – Chocolate Chip flavor!

This bar reminded me of those crappy chewy chocolate chip bars – sunbelt granola bars anyone?? – that I used to eat in elementary schools…but WAY BETTER!!! I normally don’t like chocolate chip flavored bars, but this was outstanding.

Now I’m just waiting for my parents and brother to come pick me up – then we’re off to the races friends!

Have a fabulous morning!

Oh Sunbelt granola bars! They really take me back to my youth. Every summer I would come to Iowa to visit my Dad, and there were always Sunbelt granola bars in the pantry. They were so good!
