The Rumors are True

17

One thing you have to know about me is that I don’t normally follow trends. I’m a simple person who knows what works for her and sticks to it. With that said, I currently have a huge bag of spinach in my vegetable drawer and some frozen bananas in my freezer…bet you can’t guess what I made for breakfast??? It’s true, I made the ever popular, blog-world wonder – Green Monster smoothie!

First I blended:

  • 1/4 cup oats (for girth)
  • 2 giant handfuls spinach
  • 1 cup skim milk

until everything was completely pulverized. Then I tossed in:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • handful of ice

and whirrrrrrred that baby right up! The result?

SO GOOD AND SO COLORFUL!!! Just as delicious as I’ve been hearing on all the blogs :) And not that spinach has a super distinct taste – but you can’t taste it at all! If you dislike veggies – try this…seriously!

This is one trend I’m glad I tried, because this was extremely delicious and nutritious :) Learn about all the health benefits of spinach here.

I didn’t want to stop taking pictures :)

Hopefully my GM will keep me fueled for the morning. If the rumors are true, it shouldn’t be a problem!!!

For lunch I packed a red fruit salad with watermelon, raspberries and strawberries. What’s your favorite berry? I think mine’s the rasp…

and a mixed green salad featuring a sliced Braeburn apple and half a chopped yellow squash.

Do you guys eat raw zucchini/yellow squash? I never had (for some reason I thought you couldn’t?!?!? Silly me…) until earlier this year when my Mom was munching on some and of course I got intrigued and had to try. The texture is super interesting and I just love it!

Oh, I also had a cup of my delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter coffee and a small almond biscotti while I was getting ready this morning!

Ok – the fog is so dense this morning, I came out from the bedroom and thought my contacts were all scuffy or something – you can’t see anything outside!! I’m really hoping the rain will hold off today because I’m dying for a repeater of yesterday’s lunchtime walk, today! It was so great!!! :D :D :D

Are you someone that follows and tries out new trends? Whether it be with food, clothes, hair, etc?

I’m a pretty skeptical person by nature (I know, sometimes I really annoy myself with that) so I often times find myself passing on trends. But when you hear the praises sung of something so many times, you’ve got to give it a try right??

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve put in a smoothie before?

I’m going to go with the spinach on this one. I guess I wouldn’t call it weird…just maybe unexpected! I LOVED IT THOUGH and felt so healthy afterwards!!

Eeeeeeeek, I just realized it’s Wednesday – Happy Hump Day friends!!!!!!!

I definitely like to jump on the bandwagon – fashion, food, all of it. I have to see it in action before I make my own formal decision about it :)

I usually jump on the bandwagon, especially with fashion and food. I love trying new things!

The weirdest thing I ever put in a smoothie: Celery! It was good too!

I do the oat thing in my GMs too! It really keeps me goin’… once I added almond butter though, it was over :)

I don’t normally follow trends. Or at least I’m not aware of it when I do :) But that Green Monster trend is something to follow in my opinion!

That looks great! I’m about to hop on the green monster bandwagon too–hopefully their magic healing powers will help me recover from my surgery, haha.

I usually check out trends a little while after they’ve started. I’m not someone to immediately hop on the bandwagon, but I usually like to see what all the fuss is about. :)

I’m hesitant when it comes to clothing trends, I like to have my own style. But I’m pretty quick to jump on the blog trends. I mean, if that many people say that blended spinach tastes amazing, who I am I to doubt them? I tried the GM for the first time like a month ago and I’m totally hooked now. I’d say the wierded thing I’ve used so far is avocado..

Hmm, oats would be good in a GM. Never tried that though. I think the strangest thing I’ve put in a smoothie would be ground flaxseed. I don’t recommend it – it all settles to the bottom and the last drink is disgusting!

I don’t about the spinach for breakfast. I am glad you liked it though. I will have to try it or just keep eating my spinach salads for lunch. That is what I packed for today!

Your green monster looks so much prettier than mine I’ve made, I need to try your recipe!

I ordered a smoothie from this health bar back home and they added cayenne pepper, spinach, avocado, and beets. It was the weirdest combo ever and I have to admit was not the most delish things I’ve sipped on either. Yours looks scrumptious though, I never thought of putting oats in my smoothies.

I’ve never put oats in my GMs…..great idea!!

The weirdest thing I put in them is kale leaves. A lot of people don’t like the flavor (it’s supposed to be stronger than spinach), but I always put in a ripe nanner and some berries…and I love it!

I’m like you….not a huge trend follower, unless it’s something that “grows” on me. I remember when gladiator sandals became huge and I thought, “That looks SO weird! I will never.” Now, I do. :-)

Morning! I stole your breakfast from yesterday morning. It was all that I could think about while I was running this morning. I had mine on half an English muffin. Soooo good! Thanks for the great idea.

I seriously have to try these GM’s. They are like EVERYWHERE!

    Have a great day.

I never have tried oats in my Green Monster! Will have to try that soon! I love adding Naturally More PB to it!! I’m not a huge trend follower either unless it really grows on me:)
