Oops, I did it again…
I made another Green Monster smoothie for breakfast! Let’s back up a second though.
First, hello and good morning! Are you totally jazzed that it’s already Thursday, or what?? Second, our air conditioning is broken – ohhhh noooo! It was working fine when I turned it on yesterday afternoon…then all of the sudden, it wasn’t
I am praying that this is a simple repair job, because a new AC is DOLLAS $$$!!!!!
Ok – the GM. This baby held my hunger at bay for most of the morning yesterday, but not quite as long as my standard oatmeal does. However, I really loved how frosty and tasty the smoothie was, how bright and vibrant it looked, and well – it was just really fun to drink! Getting so many nutrients in one meal doesn’t hurt either!
So with the hunger issue in mind, I added 1/3 cup of oats instead of 1/4 cup and I also added a kiwi, since I had it in the fridge and needed to use it. The rest of the recipe and directions are the same as yesterday!
Served in my Minnesota Twinkies glass!
Yippee – so beautiful!
This is just something you can feel good about eating – you know?
For lunch today I packed a mixed green salad with chopped roma tomatoes, basil and sliced strawberries:
A Raspberry-Vanilla AE yogurt:
and some watermelon! (don’t worry, this is almost gone – I was contemplating re-naming the blog “Iowa Girl Eats Watermelon” after seeing how many times I’ve eaten it in the past couple of days!!)
Well today’s high is 91 so I’m not sure if I’m going to make it out for my walk today…and hopefully the inside of my house isn’t melting when I get home!!

So you guys ROCKED last week’s Three Question Thursday with a record number of comments – keep ‘em coming, you know how they brighten my day! Ok, my questions for you:
- If the FDA came out with a 100% natural, completely safe “exercise in a pill” – would you take it and stop working out?
- Would you rather be too hot, or too cold?
- What’s your favorite way to splurge? Eating out, clothes, travel, movies, etc.?
My answers:
- Hmmmm, I’m going to say…I’d take it 50% of the time. Let’s be honest – as a busy person, this would be really convenient. However, exercise is something that doesn’t just impact my weight and overall health. When I’m working out regularly, I generally make better food choices and when I get finished with a really tough workout, I feel really good about myself. Very accomplished. You can’t get that feeling from a pill! Plus, I’d probably eat way to many Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups if I didn’t have to exercise…
- TOO HOT! I’d sweat my life away every single day if I never had to be cold again! When I’m cold, I hunch up my shoulders and then I get a neck ache and then a headache…NOT cool!
- My favorite way to splurge is to travel. I work so I can travel – I love it – no, I NEED IT!

oatmeal and kiwi in a smoothie…great idea!!!!
If the FDA came out with a 100% natural, completely safe “exercise in a pill” – would you take it and stop working out?
I say no, because I love the feeling of accomplishment after a good run or when I totally rock strength training.
Would you rather be too hot, or too cold?
TOO HOT! I hate the cold. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I contemplate moving to a tropical locale daily
What’s your favorite way to splurge? Eating out, clothes, travel, movies, etc.?
Clothes and travel. I don’t get to travel much, but I LOVE clothes. A cute dress will make you feel like a million bucks no matter where you are!
Our AC broke this week too! We just had a guy come out to fix it and apparently there is a freeon leak. Ugh! It was 200$ for him to do the temporary fix, but he said if it’s a bigger leak then he thinks, we could have a huge problem on our hands.
Hopefully yours is just a simple little fix and you are able to get it back and running in no time.
Take care and have a lovely Thursday!
I love your GM! It really is such a beautiful color. The oats addition is great!
1) Hmm… do you get the psychological benefits of exercise with it? That exercise “high?” I might take it a few times instead of going on the elliptical, but I do love running! I wouldn’t want to stop. Plus, I do like working out. I have my days where I don’t want to go to the gym, but in general I love exercise.
2) Too hot. I’m cold a lot of the time–my circulation isn’t all that great. I’ve experienced being WAY too cold before, with the violent shivering and everything. NOT fun, and it’s painful! Also, I’ve had my fingers numb and swell from the cold in ice rinks. My body doesn’t deal with it too well!
3) Traveling. And massages!
I need to get some watermelon! It looks so yummy.
1. Hmmm, I do love the feeling of being STRONG, so I’d say no – but I won’t lie. I would take it on those days when I get get my ace out of bed in the a.m.!
2. Too HOT! I am always cold. I have a space heater under my desk at work, and everyone always groans because they say my office is hot. But it feels so good!
3. If I could splurge, I would definitely splurge on traveling! I haven’t gone on a “real” trip in awhile. I’d also buy cute clothes and purses.
1. definitely not. i love the way working out makes me feel, it gets me outside, it provides me with entertainment, and it allows me to connect with others with similar activity interests.
2. i’d rather be hot. when my body is cold it just shuts down.
3. i love to splurge on a nice bottle of red wine with a homemade dinner.
happy thursday!
Oh no! I hope your AC gets fixed ASAP!! I couldn’t live without mine!!
1. I probably would take it sometimes but don’t think I would stop running. I run because I love it not just because of the ecercise benefits.
2. Too hot! I hate being cold!!
3. Hmm.. probably clothes and eating out!! I eat out way too much and am woking on cutting some of that out!!
You poor girl–of course the a/c breaks the first week it’s going to break 90 for a few days!! Eeek! Hopefully you can get it fixed quickly and cheaply! I’ll cross my fingers for you.
1. Well, unlike all of you virtuous healthy people, I would TOTALLY take an exercise in the pill form. I only do it because it’s good for me. Period. Actually, I’d rather they invented carrots that tasted like wedding cake and cauliflower that tasted like cheesecake. That, to me, would be more beneficial!
2. TOO COLD. Because frankly, when it’s too hot, there are only *so many* clothes you can take off and still be considered decent. . . while when it’s too cold, you can put on as many as possible without anyone looking at you funny!
3. My big splurge right now is high-end makeup. I <3 Sephora! If we had more splurge money, I'd totally travel, too!
Hope that your AC is fixed soon!!
1. I most likely would not take that pill. I love running and the feeling I get from accomplishment too much.
2. Hands down, too hot. I despise being cold. I am miserable when I am cold. I freeze 8 months out of the year in Ohio! LOL!
3. Eating out at higher end, unique restaurants with gluten-free food. I love filet & chilean sea bass and good wine!
What kind of impact did the kiwi have on the flavor/taste of the GM? Did it make it better or more sweet? I’m really going to have to try that…
1- I’d be one of those people who tries it for a couple days then realizes that I’d rather have the fight with myself to get exercising
I love working out, but I just hate the motivation part beforehand. It’s weird.
2- HOT! My family doesn’t understand itwhen they come in my room or to my desk and say it’s hot but I think it feels perfect. I hate winter (thus I hate where I live). Cold just doesn’t do it for me.
3- Even though I hate to admit it, my splurges recently have mostly consisted of shopping. Lots of it! I hate admitting it because I used to hate shopping. By getting rid of my food addiction, I’ve gotten a new one unfortunately (and it’s having an adverse effect on my bank account). But I love going to the movies too
Hi Kristin! I eat a lot of green smoothies, too! From my experience, it may keep you full longer if you add more protein (yogurt, cottage cheese, whey, nut butter for some examples) and definitely some healthy fat. I have to have some healthy fat in my breakfast if I want any chance of making it to lunch!
1. Gahhhh! No way! I love to work out! For sanity and also the sense of accomplishment.
2. Def. too hot. I live in Kansas and I despise the cold!
3. Splurges: Out for drinks/dinner with husband and special surprises for my kids.
I also wanted to ask you, what kind of camera do you use? Your pics always turn out so clear and bright!
1) I’m not going to lie and say I wouldn’t try it – I would try it and keep on reserve for those days when the workouts don’t happen. But I wouldn’t make it a habit; exercising is my anti-depressant – I feel better overall and make healthier food choices when I work out consistently.
2) COLD – I sweat very easily and have a hard time concentrating when I’m too hot. Our AC was messed up at work a few months ago and I felt sick almost every day.
3) SHOPPING! I love shopping for clothes, although I don’t do it that often. The bank account wouldn’t be able to keep up with me if I let myself go whenever I wanted.
Hope that AC gets fixed soon!
1. I would probably try it and use it on the days where my body just does NOT want to get moving. However, overall I do enjoy all the good things that go along with working out, so I wouldn’t rely on it.
2. Too Hot! I am always cold and I hate it!
3. Hmm. . . probably a pedicure (which I love, but only pay for very rarely) or something for the house.
Have a great day!
i like your green monster!
1. i don’t think i would try it! i do like the feeling when you finish a workout – it’s great
plus, you can never trust the fda 100%…
2. i’d rather be too cold, because you can always add more layers to warm up! i also get pretty cranky when i’m too hot!
3. definitely travel, and anything related to fitness, sometimes a manicure and pedicure too
1. If the FDA came out with a 100% natural, completely safe “exercise in a pill” – would you take it and stop working out?
2. Would you rather be too hot, or too cold?
3. What’s your favorite way to splurge? Eating out, clothes, travel, movies, etc.?
1. i’d probably take it, but i wouldn’t stop working out. i probably wouldn’t be as obsessed about working out
2. too HOT! i always say that! rather be too hot than too cold. i don’t like a LOT of clothes. I can’t stand sweaters!
3. travel. I think i’m gonna be splurging this august. eek! i already feel the money anxiety!
I would totally take the pill. I hate exercising.
I would much rather be too hot. I am cold all the time.
Splurge: We are most likely to spurge on toys and stuff for the kids, also, wine, and eating out.
Hi Kristin! First, just wanted to tell you that the AC in my car just stopped working, and I don’t know if it works the same for AC in the home, but the reason ours wasn’t working was because it was out of freon. (But there was not a leak or anything – we just used it up.) I didn’t realize that was possible, but maybe it is something like that for your house AC. We just had to pay the “environmental” fee to have our freon replaced…
Now my answers:
1) Would not take the pill, but keep exercising. I like it too much!
2) Keeping in mind that I am from Canada, so it might explain my answer: I would rather be cold. I feel like when I get too hot it is very difficult to get cooled off, but when I am too cold, I can pile on the sweaters, socks, blankets, etc. to warm up. Not to say that I LIKE being cold – I sure don’t!!
3) Movies and travel – can I have two answers?!
Hi Kristen! Found your blog recently & love love love it! You are too darling! Anyway, to your questions . . .
1. I do enjoy workouts, but on those days when I’m feeling particularly un-motivated or just plain short on time, an exercise pill would be a nice fix. I definitely wouldn’t give up working out all together, though. I’d miss the endorphins!
2. Too hot! I have poor circulation & am freezing most of my life. Once I get cold, it’s really hard for me to warm up, but if I’m warm, I can cool down pretty easily. Plus, it doesn’t really bug me to be hot.
3. Travel! I rarely travel but I’m always envious of other people’s trips. I would love to have enough time & money to see the world. And I’m with you on Greece! I’m dying to go there!
I would totally take the pill, because when I come home from work and the choice is glass of wine vs. work out, wine always wins. Or in the morning when the choice is snuggle with husband and pug in bed vs. work out, snuggle with husband and pug in bed always wins.
Too cold! At least you can keep putting more clothes on and share warmth with those around you, if it were a really dire situation, you know. When you’re too hot, there’s only so any clothes you can take off before you end up in the clink. Sweat makes me cranky. (Which brings us back to question #1…)
Travel, definitely. And cheese. And wine.
I just discovered the GMs last week and am addicted to them now! Try adding barney butter or greek yogurt to the mix…so good!
1. I probably wouldn’t take the pill even if it was deemed to be safe. No pill can ever replace all the benefits of getting your butt up and exercising!! Although I must admit, some days it would be very tempting!
2. I would much rather be too hot. I get cold so easily. In fact, my boyfriend and i are constantly arguing over what we should set the air on. I tend to like it about five-ten degrees warmer than he does, and then I usually still add a blanket or two.
3. I love to splurge on travel and clothes! I would spend all of my money on the two if I could!
That smoothie is SOOO green, must be the kiwi??
1. I would take the pill, and still exercise when I felt like it. Which would probably be almost every day still but then I could be less obsessive about my exercise!
2. I would rather be too cold! You can always put more layers on and you can’t always take enough off. I hate the feeling of being sweaty and hot too!
3. I like to splurge on ALL of those things! Hahaha. Lately I splurge on clothes or eating out a lot, but I’m trying to cut back so I can SAVE to splurge on TRAVEL!
1. I would take the pill when I wasn’t feeling well or was too busy to exercise (or on days like today when I’ve eaten my weight in chocolate!) but I love working out so I would still do it when I had the chance.
2. Too hot fo sheezy, I hate being cold.
3. TRAVELLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could travel every day. I never get homesick and love being new places.
I would still read if you blog became Iowa Girl Eats Watermelon, you could really get creative, ha!
1. DUH – of course!
2. Too HOT!! I love heat!
3. Ice cream!! Yummy!
Why did you pack a lunch today silly???
1. Absolutely not. I enjoy building the sweat and letting it run. Yucky as that may sound, it always makes me feel great. Exercise, the release of endorphins, is what clears my mind and gives me pep.
2. I’d rather be too cold – I love wearing layers and scarves and hats.
3. Travel – Seeing the rest of the world only makes me appreciate my life even more!
I’m on a kiwi kick this week (5 in 24 hours!!!), so I’m feeling your GM.
1 – I would the days I didn’t work out, especially if I was just too sick or sore to, but normally, I’d probably just do my own thing.
2 – Too cold – you can always put something on, but there’s only so much you can take off!
3 – my favorite splurge right now is definitely eating out and traveling – it used to be shopping, but with losing weight, it’s more frustrating than anything else!
Hi Tracy! I have a Canon Digital Elph!
