Helllo everyone!
So I wanted to share with you – I’ve been making Frozen Banana Custard A LOT lately, but I usually make it after the blog is closed for the night. Last night was no different, but I took some pictures for you!
If you own a food processor (I use a mini one!) and you haven’t tried this – you need to get on it pronto! There’s ONLY frozen bananas on the ingredient list and it is so satisfying! My batch last night was 1 1/2 frozen bananas and it was so rich that I could barely finish it! Yummmm…!
Well my Mom had to go into work early today so I slept in a little. Not going to lie – it was great
When I finally got out of bed, I made SUCH a satisfying breakfast: Toasted Bagel with Almond Butter, Sugar Free Raspberry Jam and a Sliced Apple. Doesn’t this breakfast look surprised? :O
The more I eat toasted bagels, the more I love them. I used to find them too “carby” and would feel kind of nauseous if I ate an entire one, but that hasn’t been the case lately! I just love the cripsy and chewy texture.
Mmmmmelty and sweet!
Oh! A couple of you have asked how I slice my apples. I just cut the four quarters of the apple off of the core and then slice up the quarters!
See? No core or seeds to deal with – just perfect, munchable slices
For lunch today I packed a Kitchen Sink Salad. You know, everything but the kitchen sink was in there!
We’ve got:
- Fresh cherry tomatoes (from my plants!)
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Taco seasoned cheese (it’s all I had in my fridge…)
- Carrot chips
- Baby spinach
Fab!
I also cut up the juiciest cantaloupe eva last night. I’m hearing we’re at the stage of peak ripeness for melons – so stock up while you still can!!
Guess what? After last weeks debacle, I remembered that it’s Three Question Thursday today – wohoo!
~~~~~
Here you go folks – let’s here it!
1. Are you a morning or night person?
2. Do you, or have you ever played an instrument?
3. What was your favorite part about going back to school when you were little?
My answers:
1. I am a MORNING person! Usually around 7:00pm I start to shut…down…zzzz…
2. Mmmm don’t hate. I played the oboe in middle school. It’s true. I also played the piano for years – I would actually really like to get back into that at some point in my life!
3. Getting new markers and Lisa Frank folders. Remember Lisa Frank folders?!!?
1. Definitely a morning person. By 10 PM I turn into a pumpkin and my brain shuts off.
2. I play the violin and piano still. Also tried acoustic guitar but I wasn’t very good at it so I gave my guitar to my sister.
3. I’m a nerd and LOVED getting new school supplies. Pens, markers, so much fun…as I got older it was buying new clothes.
Fun questions!
1. NIGHT. I don’t stay up late or anything (10PM bedtime) but I simply cannot function in the morning. My husband isn’t allowed to talk to me until I’ve been out of bed for at least an hour. And my alarm goes off for about an hour before I can even try to get out of bed. However, having a new baby around kind of changed that – and it does make it a little more enjoyable to get up early:)
2. The trumpet – which I was horrible at. My parents let me quit after I brought home a D mid-term slip! And the piano – which I hated. I’m just not a musical person…
3. Funny…because I never used to get excited to go back to school. (Weird, because now I’m a teacher.) I just love summer so much I’ve always been sad to see it end. But I think that a new pack of juicy markers have always cheered me up (and they still do today!)
1. Morning Person
2. Clarinet from 6th thru 10th grades then switched to chorus.
3. Agh! Lisa Frank folders! That and Trapper Keepers were by far my favorite things about going back to school!
1) Definitely a morning person! I love to get up early get lots of things accomplished, and then relax for the rest of the day.
2) I played violin in elementary school and then played clarinet in middle and high school.
3) My favorite thing about going back to school was always shopping for a first day of school outfit! I totally used to stock up on all things Lisa Frank, too!
I loooooved Lisa Frank!
1. Depends on the day. I love being up early and getting in a great run before the rest of the world gets going….. but I am also bad about staying up way too late sometimes too. Not good for getting 8 hours of sleep in!
2. Flute for a bit, but then it got stolen so I lost interest.
3. Loved shopping for new clothes and trying to decide what to wear that first day back!
That lunch salad looks yummy and I might need to go pick up a canteloupe today!
1. Defineltely a morning person. Getting up @ 5am to run in college was easy for me, but my roommates always thought I was nuts!
2. I played the flute 5th grade through 10th grade, but then they made us do marching band. EEWW So I quit right there!
3 I love all the new things and clothes. Putting together my new backpack was so much fun and trying on all my new outfits like a fashion show.
Thanks for showing your apple slicing skills as well!
That salad looks awesome.
1. I’m a morning person too.
2. I played the clarinet from 5th grade until I graduated and the tenor sax from 8th grade until grad. Now I try to play the guitar
3. I loved buying new school supplies. And I LOVED Lisa Frank too!
Your breakfast looks good!!
1. Are you a morning or night person? morning person all the way. At the gym by 5 AM!
2. Do you, or have you ever played an instrument? Played the violin in school
3. What was your favorite part about going back to school when you were little? School supplies! I love school supplies! Remember the Trapper Keepers?
1) morning. roll out, lace up, & hit the roads
2) Drums. Head tenor on drumline.
3) Being the class clown. It was just natural to antagonize the teacher, I could walk the line between class disruption and light-hearted humor pretty well…
1. I’m totally a night owl/insomniac. I am often up until around midnight, usually later once or twice a week.
2. I took piano lessons for over 10 years, but haven’t played regularly for about another 10, so my skills have noticeably declined!
3. I loved school. I always knew what was expected of me and I liked completing assignments. I don’t know what my favorite part of going back was; maybe seeing all my friends again, I guess. We lived on a farm before “playdates” became the rage, so I didn’t see much of my friends during the summers.
1. I’m kind of an afternoon person! If I had to choose between morning and night, however, I’d say morning.
2. I played the flute in 4th and 5th grade but was terrible. I never practiced and faked played during class.
3. I liked getting new clothes.
1. Morning person all the way.
2. Recorder and Piano – both against my will, and very poorly.
3. I’ve gotta go with the school supplies too. We had our own desks back in Primary School, so it was always neat organizing all of my new stuff.
Happy Thursday
I used to love Lisa Frank folders!!
Your breakfast does look cute.. so surprised! I’m the same way with bagels.. used to be too carby but now I love them!
1. No question I am a morning person all the way! Almost always up by 5:00am or earlier! Don’t ask what time i go to bed…too embarassing!
2. Nope. Wish I would have played piano though!
3. Definitely the school supplies! I still love the smell of new crayons!
BTW I’ve done some experimenting with banana “ice cream” and the addition of frozen peaches, cantaloupe or mango is a fun change! Still yummy and creamy. Try it!
1. morning person FOREVER! i get up at 4:00 am! woo hoo. i go to bed at….8:00. gasp!
2. i played piano for a couple of years, and clarinet for 9. i was wicked good. justkidding.
3. i liked getting binders. not like 5 star zipper binders, but just those regular binders. AHHH binders.
kristin — what kind of bagels do you eat?
1. 100% morning person.
2. I took piano lessons for 3 years, but I was horrible and hated it, so I never practiced. I used to DREAD Tuesdays!
3. I loved getting new school supplies! Picking out colors and folders – ah such sweet memories!
1. Never thought I’d say this — morning person!
2. I played clarinet in high school and bass guitar for a while (need to pick that back up!)
3. My favorite part about going back to school was that my grandma (who spoiled the heck out of me) would take my sister and I clothes shopping for a few new outfits.
1. I’m more of a morning person than night person but I like to sleep in, too! Maybe I’m a mid-morning person.
2. I played the trumpet beginning in 5th grade and even played in college marching band.
3. I loved picking out my pencil box / pencil case. Also getting new shoes! My shoe fascination started very young.
That melon looks delicious and juicy! Yum!
1. I am DEFINITELY a morning person! “Sleeping in” for me is 8 am at the VERY latest! I’m up daily at 5:15 am to workout before work, and the weekends usually between 6:30-7:30!
I love it!
2. I played the clarinet in Jr. high (woo woo fellow woodwinds!) and the piano as well for a few years in elementary school…I miss piano a lot and want to take it up again as well.
3. My favorite part about back to school was school clothes shopping with my Mom, and then my Nana…two separate hauls!
They were always fun, special days with the two of them! I also looooooooved school supplies (Lisa Frank woo!) of all kinds, and always loaded up my backpack to the max with all my new things on the first day, which was often totally unnecessary, but so much fun!
That salad looks yummy.
1. I am defaintely a night person. My nature sleep patter is 2am to 10am. Unfortunatley I get up at 5:45 am to go to work.
2. I played the piano and would still play if a I had a keyboard.
3. My favorite part of going back to school was buying all the new school supplies. Even as a kid I loved shopping and having new stuff.
1. Morning Person!!
2. I used to play the piano for many years!! Wish I still did!
3. Buying new school clothes! I have always loved to shop!
That breakfast looks so good. I have been on such a PB&J bender lately.
oh my gosh lisa frank was my absolute favorite!!
1. Are you a morning or night person? night person
2. Do you, or have you ever played an instrument? yep brass instruments and quite a few of them
3. What was your favorite part about going back to school when you were little? new clothes
I’m waiting to buy a processor just so i can make that!!
That salad looks delish
I love bagels, but some can be so high in calorie that I don’t buy them often. What kind do you buy?
I love your Three Question Thursdays!
1. I’m definately a morning person. I have no problem whatsoever waking up at 5am and walking my dog, working out, cleaning, whatever. I love mornings.
2. I played the Clarinet for 9 years. Concert band, pep band and of course…marching band!
3. I have to agree with you on Lisa Frank stuff! Oh my gosh, I had so much of that stuff when I was little.
LOVE the banana custard! I haven’t had it for a while, but there are some dying bananas that are in need of a new home in my freezer.
1. I am definitely a NIGHT person, though I do get up early on the weekends so I’m not wasting the day away. If I could, I would stay up late all the time.
2. I’m a piano player and singer. I started in grade 11 (11 years ago!) and have released 3 CDs since then – mostly jazz/folk hybrids with a little cabaret thrown in. It’s my favourite instrument, the piano, and I prefer to sing with it than without it.
3. My favourite part of back to school was definitely the new school supplies! I loved, and still do, the smell of fresh paper and pencils, new binders and folders. Though, throughout the years we had a surplus of unused school supplies and I had to start recycling.
1. I can easily adapt to be a morning or night person, but tend to be up in the morning since the dogs get me up early no matter what!
2. I played piano for a few years, then I played saxophone from 6th grade through part of college. I also played drums, flute, and oboe at various times during middle school and high school band.
3. I LOVE(D) getting school/office supplies!!! Especially planners. I’m a bit of an organizational freak…
1. Morning person. I get so much accomplished in the mornings. I start to automatically shutdown about 8:30pm. Such a grandma.
2. I played the flute in middle school.
3. I loved to get packs of paper and a new binder. Wait for it……A TRAPPER KEEPER. Y’all remember those?
1. Night! I tried to wake up early to go to the gym in the mornings but I am so much more energetic at night!
2. I played the flute!
3. Omg I love Lisa Frank!!! I loved getting new supplies and clothes!
Morning person! That is the only time I can get the house to myself!
Does air guitar count as a musical instrument?
I always think of new jeans and sneakers when I think of back to school!
1. definitely night person, morning only by default due to nature of work!
2. play the piano (still), euphonium in school band, a little violin, percussion in church.
3. playing with my crazy friends, doing silly and crazy stuff together!
1. Morning person. I get awfully crabby at night when I start to get tired. Not good!
2. I started out on piano in 3rd grade, then played flute all through middle school and high school. But my favorite instrument to use is my voice! Love, love, love to sing.
3. Folders and notebooks were cool, but I was always most excited about new pens! And colored pencils, for that matter. But I got terribly excited about pens.
Oh my… How come your banana softserve looks heavenly and mine just looks boring? Lol… I think I need to try again
I’m a night person by nature and would gladly stay up all night but since I have a j-o-b I have conditioned myself to be a morning person and love my 5am alone time… I played the piano too since I was 6 until I was 16 and I regret giving it up every day but I also dabbled in violin, and bass guitar for a bit… My fave part was actually the crayons markers annoyed me because I was much too girlie and didn’t like marker stains on my fingers but crayons- oh my!
Lisa Frank! Oh the memories that brings back!! Do they still sell that?
1. Morning
2. Nope
3. Getting to be with all my friends all day again
That cantaloupe looks deliciously juicy. Do you ever add a touch of salt? It makes them so sweet
That is exactly how i cut my apples. That apple cut up looks HUGE though! Holy moly!
1. I would say I’m a morning person when I’ve gotten good sleep. Otherwise I like to sleep in and I’m a total night owl.
2. I taught myself how to play piano and became quite good at it. I also dabbled a bit in guitar but didn’t get very far. I was one of the best players on the church handbell ensemble as well! I take pride in my handbell skills. I wonder if that is why I’m having wrist problems? LOL.
3. my favorite part … when i was little? i had more fun in school past 9th grade, so I’m not sure I had a favorite part. Talking with friends I guess! I used to collect lisa frank stickers though LOL!
-muffy
Like you, I used to “fear” bagels. They were always a “bad” food – high in calories and all carbs! But I’ve come to realize that whole grain ones are fantastic! Even regular ones in moderation are fine. Healthy carbs to feed a healthy belly!
1. I can never decide if I’m morning or night. I hate sleeping in too late, and I get tired relatively early (between 10-midnight). But then again I’m not one of those people up at 6 or 7 and bright & happy!! haha
2. I used to play piano for a bit.
3. HAHA Lisa Frank!! Yesss
I LOVED supply shopping & getting all organized. And feeling all organized for like the first week once you got home from school and getting in a routine. Then school got annoying….haha.
1. I’m definitely a morning person, talking way earlier like 5:30 am. Although I find it very hard to get out of the door before 7am if needed. It’s like my personal time, slow breakfast, read the news, plan my day, etc. I got used to it in high school and can really only sleep in late if I don’t go to bed until after 2am!
2. I played the flute for a few years. I’ll pick it up again one day, but for now I prefer to listen to music.
3. I loved buying new crayons. One year I was allowed to buy the box of 96, I treated them like gold and never let my friends use them. I think the box is still pretty intact at my Mom’s house.
1. I’m a night person. I have a really hard time falling asleep, so it’s really hard to wake up the next morning.
2. I played the clarinet in middle school, but wasn’t any good.
3. Getting a new school bad and putting all my school supplies in it perfectly!
Oh my goodness that frozen banana custard looks amazing! And so does that salad! Good eats
1. I’m a morning person!
2. I’ve never played an instrument.
3. My favorite part of back to school is new school supplies! Especially new notebooks and new planners — all those blank pages so full of possibility! It’s exciting
Wow, your frozen banana custard looks incredible! I can’t wait to get a food processor at my new apartment so I can try it
1. Night person, definitely!
2. Haha, oh yes. I played the violin for 11 years, and I played the harp for 9. I still play the harp, and I was actually going to music school for harp performance the past 2 years. I just changed my major to kinesiology though, but I’m still gonna keep playing.
3. Recess and also getting school supplies at the beginning of the year! And gym class, haha.
Totally off topic but….I went to Trader Joe’s today and got the Australian licorice you recommended and OMG…love love love it! I’m so glad it popped in to my head when I was there. Thanks!
Do you freeze bananas after they’ve turned sweeter? I prefer bananas that are still a little green, but found the frozen custard to be a little too sharp/bitter at that stage.
1. I’m much more productive in the morning, but I’m such a night owl, it’s hard to get up!
2. I played the flute in grades 5-8, but I secretly admire anyone who can play the piano well. What an amazing talent!
3. New school supplies!!!
I am sure it felt so good to sleep in today. I seriosuly contimplated it but then I had to pee, so since I was up anyways, I just headed to the gym. Don’t you hate that?
OMG Lisa Frank!!! I completely forgot about this. I use to LOVE everything Lisa Frank. I am so gald you brought back this memory.
Hope you had an amazing week darling!
1.) Morning person!
2.) I play the piano
3.) Back to school shopping!!!
