There Wasn’t a Seal!

42

Yo, ho ho!

I’m in a terrific mode on this Monday morning. How about you?

I woke up and went on a 52 degree Mom walk – brrrrrrr – and then ran another 1.5 mile loop after we parted ways. This is the loop that has all the hills, so I was excited to try out my new hill running techniques. Imaginary rope around my chest and hips pulling straight forward – seriously worked. Let’s be honest, it didn’t make the hills easy, but they were definitely less annoying and I could feel that my form was SO much better! (I just typed butter :( )

I came home, dropped down and did three rounds of 10 pushups and 15 bicycle crunches. I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity – so I feel like if I do these pushups/crunches slowly and with concentration on form, I get max benefit. For me. :)

After I got ready I had a BOMB A breakfast – I don’t know why I’ve never had this before?! Peanut Butter & Banana Bagel!

IMG_8001

The peanut butter (explanation on why this wasn’t almond butter, below) got all melty on the hot bagel – which was hotter than the surface of the sun, I might add – and the bananas were so sweet and creamy on top!

IMG_8003

Mouth watering…

For lunch today I packed a HUGE Kitchen Sink Salad.

IMG_7974

We’ve got:

  • Mixed greens
  • Spinach
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Red Bartlett pear
  • 1 small zucchini
  • Corn sheets

IMG_7978 IMG_7982

Mmmm…corn sheets…

IMG_7976

I’m going to try and get out for a walk during lunch today, temps are supposed to be in the low 70s = perfect walk weather!

In other news:

  • My almond butter jar from Trader Joe’s didn’t have a seal on it!! It looked and smelled fine, and to be honest I was just going to eat it, but Ben forbid it. DARN! I’m going on Amazon today to see if they sell it in pallets…
  • My left under-eye area has been twitching since I woke up…strange.
  • Last night I came into the kitchen to find the Spiderman spider’s friggin twin on my kitchen counter!! Seriously – red, black, FANGS…ok no fangs, but seriously it looked exactly like the one in the Spiderman movie. I really wanted to take a picture for you, but I was too arachnophobic to go near it after the first encounter.

Ok – so ASIDE from the things listed above – I’m having a great Monday so far. Have a fab day everyone!

~~~~~
What’s on your “will not eat” list?
Mine is cooked carrots & celery, cooked peppers and mushrooms!
    Oh no! That’s awful! When are they going to get a darn TJ’s in Iowa? I sure wish we had one, I hear of so many good products from there.
    I have pb, banana toast for breakfast a lot. It’s my favorite! I drizzle just a touch of honey on top too. Mmmm….
    That is one of my favorite breakfasts! I’m sure there are a few items on my will-not-eat list, but the only one I can think of right now is whole milk. Yuck!
    Food I won’t eat that I love raw – celery: it is just so blah when cooked; tomato: small chunks are ok but big stewed tomato chunks make me gag.
    Freezing here too!! 51°F.
    ***The TJ’s almond butters NEVER have seals, just so you know… the best way to know if it’s “good” is if the oil is at the top and if the cap/lid was closed SUPER tightly on the jar.
  6. VeggieGirl 08.31.2009
    WAIT!! Scratch that – I was thinking you meant a seal underneath the lid, not the plastic seal AROUND the lid, haha. Sorry!! Definitely take it back then :-D
    Ew, the description of the spider gives me the creeps, I hate spiders (and roaches) with a passion!!! And hm, there are a lot of things that I won’t eat, I’m quite picky!
    By the way, I made the mini apple crisps for dessert last night and I’m fairly certain (okay, POSITIVE!) that I’ll be making it again tonight… SO SO SOOOOOO GOOD!
    i do that too … tuesdays and thursdays i walk with my mom, because i know if i dont go with her, she doesnt like to do it at all
    i always get the leg jitters when i walk with her though, i just want to take off running SO BAD, or at least power walk or something haha. its a struggle for my muscles, but my mommas health is WAY more important
    Sorry to hear about your almond butter. That’s really a bummer.
    I don’t eat or cook with butter. I don’t mind the flavor, but everything else about it freaks me out. I definitely couldn’t go vegan, but if I ever did the easiest thing to “give up” would definitely be butter
    I love peanut butter banana toast, but I drizzle honey on top, too!
    ahhhh that stinks about the TJ’s almond butter! better to be safe than sorry.
    PB+ banana is one of my FAVE combos ever. it NEVER gets old – i make bagels, english muffins, pitas, quesadillas with PB (or AB) and bananas and its a winner everytime!
    You always have such wonderful looking salads, but do you use dressing? What kind?? You never mention..well hardly ever mention any dressing…lol! I’m dying to know!
    • admin 08.31.2009
      Ooo I keep a few different kinds in the house – all usually Kraft light dressing. I like to get the House Italian or Roasted Garlic and then throw a splash of balsamic vinegar in there. It takes the taste of “bottled” dressing out and extends the dressing!
    The muscle twitching thing might be due to a potassium deficiency. So maybe eat a few extra bananas this week?
    There are very few things that I ‘won’t eat’. Pretty much the only thing I can think of is lima beans. And really, if they are snuck in with something else, I’ll eat them. I just don’t enjoy them. My ‘can’t eat’ list is quite long due to my gluten intolerance, though… :(
    Happy Monday! The nut butter, banana and bagel combo is one of my favorite things in the world. Glad you enjoyed it!
    Nice work on the hills. This cool weather we are having in the mid-west is perfect for outdoor runs.
    I don’t eat iceberg lettuce at all. It’s so slimy, especially on a burger or a sandwich. I also won’t eat anything that has even touched mayonnaise. The texture just kills me. My boyfriend dips his fries in it and I will do everything I can to block it from my view.
    Wow. that makes me super sad about the seal. :( I feel your pain! haha.
    Also — will not eat list — totally with Kaytee on iceburg lettuce. No nutritional value at all. Same with white pasta. I’m a pasta nazi. has to be whole wheat … oh, and white bread too.
    As far as stuff grossing me out — lima beans. Definitely on the list.
    Sad story about the AB but sounds like someone’s going to hook you up!!
    Yeah – banana and PB has been a life long (ok about 2 years) passion of mine – it goes on any breadlike thing you can think of but toast is my fave!
    Guess what – I tried the running tip (uphill with chest and shoulder up like a rope is tied to your chest) it worked like a charm! I’m going to keep trying it – makes it easier.
    Plus – last week, I made jumbo zucchini muffins and they turned out awesome. My family gobbled them up pretty fast! Looks like a winner! I love your website – your daily attitude is what I enjoy the most. Keep it up!
    All of your food looks bomb – not just breakfast! But I’m agreeing, breakfast does look particularly bomb. I can’t believe it is in the 50s there already!!! BRRR. My do not eat list….hmmm…I honestly can’t think of anything?! I’m not the hugest fan of raw tomatoes..but even those, I will eat if I have to…
    Oooh 52 degrees? I can’t even fathom that right now… it’s 106 here! Your breakfast looks freakin incredible, and I love your salad! Yum.
    I HATE raw celery! It’s fine when it’s cooked in soups/stews, but I cannot stand it raw. I also don’t eat meat, except for seafood :)
