Stars for Breakfast

Happy hump day!

Well I survived the night allergy-attack free! I feel so rested and a million times better than I did at this time yesterday :)

So I haven’t been able to stop thinking about that peanut butter & banana bagel I had earlier this week and knew I had to recreate the taste ASAP. Well, I had some whole wheat English muffins that I needed to use or lose – so I made Peanut Butter, Jelly & Banana English Muffins for breakfast!

Mmmm banana stars!

We all know how delicious peanut butter and bananas are – but jelly & bananas? Winner! It reminded me of my favorite combo of yogurt and bananas, which I can never get enough of.

IMG_8103 IMG_8104

I also found a stash of Braeburn Apples in my fruit drawer, so I decided to bust one out for b-fast today. It’s been far too long since I’ve enjoyed one of these babies!

Doesn’t it look like a pretty, apple, lotus flower?

For lunch I packed a Corn Sheet Salad. That’s just one ear of corn worth!

IMG_8082

That picture actually is making me think of an animal that I don’t like, so I’m moving on… The rest of the salad contains:

  • Mixed greens with carrots and radishes
  • Small zucchini, sliced
  • Red Bartlett pear, chopped

I really love pears (well, any fruit really) in my salads. They provide such a sweet, unique crunch.

I also packed a colorful Fruit & Berry Salad.

We’ve got:

  • Red Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Sweet Nectarine

I snuck a few nibbles of this nectarine – oh my gosh – it is so sweet and juicy. Candy-like, really! Do you have a preference between peaches or nectarines? I always buy peaches but I’m not really sure why, as nectarines are just as delicious. They were only $.99/pound at the store this weekend, which is why I picked some up. I’m glad I did :)

Well all that talk about Pumpkin Spice Lattes last night, really left me with a hankering for one…I’m seeing a mid-morning walk down to Starby’s in my future…!

Have a grrreat day!

What’s your “usual” order when you go to a coffee shop? Lattes, plain coffee, tea, blended drinks? Do you ever go for the pastries?

My usual is a non-fat, sugar-free vanilla latte with no foam. I do enjoy a good Chai though. Sometimes I go for the pastries, but usually regret it immediately following because they are SO rich and make my stomach hurt!

Iced coffee, nonfat, sweetened — mmmmm mmmmm… during the colder months I def enjoy a pumpkin spice latte or 20 (ha) as well!

  2. Monnik says:

I like nectarines better. Not sure why, but the fuzziness of peaches disturbs me. Your salad does look like it has a slithery creature on it. :)

  3. Mandy says:

I get the same drink at Starbucks: non-fat, sugar free vanilla…just two pumps though. I am looking forward to my Saturday shopping so I can get my pumpkin spiced latte…YUM!

  4. Whit says:

I love a skinny Chai Latte. YUM!

  5. Sarah R says:

I’m addicted to soy mistos from Starbucks. There’s not as much milk as a latte and the soy makes it so creamy. No need for sugar at all!

  6. Emily says:

    Yum, pb and banana!

I usually just get regular coffee (hazelnut flavor!) at coffee shops. I add a bit of cream, and it’s just perfect. :-)

  7. Sara says:

Love that breakfast! My usual drink at Starbucks is the same as yours…skinny (not fat, sugar free) vanilla latte, but every once in a while I’ll splurge for a non fat Caramel Macchiato. Those are the best! BTW, I made your potato salad last night…it’s great!

  8. After all the talk about pumpkin spiced lattes yesterday I got one after my failed run last night. It was a nice pick me up and I had to get the pumpkin loaf to go with it for a seasonal treat. It made a nice dinner.

I usually order a Tall Non-fat Decaf Cinnamon Dolce latte. Hunni hates what I order because he can never remember it and always makes me write it down for him. But I love it. The Cinnamon makes it pop. I even put cinnamon on my regular coffee now too.

  9. Oh man, that picture reminded me of the same thing :/
my Starbucks usual is a triple venti nonfat latte w/either sugar free caramel or just 3 splenda. YUM! I’m drinking a pumpkin spice right now though, I just HAD to have one :)

  10. Becci says:

Wow…look at all the beautiful fresh produce in this post!

I usually prefer nectarines over peaches because I am not fond of the fuzzy skin. Lately I have been getting a few of each…I can stand the fuzziness if I chop up the peach instead of eating it like an apple!

  11. Holly says:

    ahhhhh LOVE PB+J+B! soooo good!

ooohhh starby’s…hmmm…i do love the seasonal gingerbread latte (nonfat) or a good soy latte. mmmm!

  12. Evan Thomas says:

I go with a black decaf coffee because I’m boring like that
And always peaches over nectarines for me. i find them juicier and sweeter.

  13. Missy B says:

I love peaches OR nectarines – I don’t have a favorite but have been frustrated lately that the peaches I bought looked beautiful and tasty, but got them home and cut it up and man were they nasty. Tasted terrible! What’s your secret to picking out good peaches and nectarines?
Also, I’m addicted to Chai (thanks to my sister). She got me hooked.

  14. Machelle says:

Do you put salad dressing on those salads? If so…what kind?

  15. ugh, your breakfast looks totally delish. i will try to stop drooling on my keybaord for long enough to answer the question. I don’t really do coffee, or coffee shops, but the few times i have gone there, i get something with out coffee. though, pumpkin spice anything is quite tempting!

  16. FoodCents says:

I do not usually buy coffee while I am out, because I like my coffee insanely strong and most places don’t make it that way. I also am somewhat boring and like to eat my calories, rather than drink them (minus a good beer), but those Pumpkin Spice Lattes are awfully tasty, so I will have to go out and get one before the window closes on them being available.

  17. Rose says:

Yum (in regards to that breakfast).

I have been on an iced coffee kick for a while now! So gooood!

  18. Haleigh says:

When I go out for coffee, I usually get plain coffee with some soy milk, tastes good and cheaper but if I am feeling a little indulgent then I get a soy latte, skinny caramel or pumpkin spice :) I am always disappointed when I get a coffee shop pastry so I usually save it for a special trip to the bakery. Enjoy your day!

  19. brandi says:

    either:
    iced coffee with skim
fat free latte with 1/2 the amount of peppermint + mocha syrup

  20. Jess says:

After the email from Starbucks about the Pumpkin Spice Latte, I couldn’t help going there last night to get one!! I was not disappointed! My usual drink there used to be a Skinny Vanilla Latte but I switched to just a Non-fat latte (after this one location kept messing up the syrup in a bad way) and I have a new love!!
Hope you have a great day!

  21. erin says:

i must be the odd one out cuz i sure as heck don’t go to starbucks, or drink coffee or tea! =)

the corn sheets– amazing. i did that the other day, delicious!

  22. Jenna says:

Why have I never tried this combo? You would think it would be something I would think about :)

I too dream of my pb and banana combos. They sure are heavenly. I will have to give the added jam a try though. Thanks for the tip girl!

My typical go to is a black coffee. I am pretty boring :) However, I do love me some frapps’ for a treat. And in the fall, I love the green tea latte from the Bucks’. I must try this pumpkin concoction though, drool!

  23. Punpkin Spice Latte sounds so good!! I used to be all about the non fat, sugar free vanilla or caramel latte but it tastes chemically to me these days so I’ve been sticking to iced coffee with soy milk (so nutty and good!) but I’m not sure what I’ll do now it’s cooling down….hmmm. Decisions decisions!

  24. My vote is for Nectarines all. the. way.!!! They always seem more juicy and sweet than peaches. just my vote. But I did buy a few peaches the other day because they were being featured so frequently on Iowa Girl Eats! ;)

  25. Jacqueline says:

I’m happy to hear you got a great nights sleep. It makes a world of difference!
I love a tall iced SB Double Shot. Just 2 shots of espresso over ice, sweetened with 2% milk…not the healthiest drink but it’s my favorite!

  26. starbucks orders:
    morning. Venti dark, no room.
afternoons. and evenings. refresh tea. one tea bag :)
cold windy days. soy cappuccino :) yum

  27. Jenny says:

My “usual” (aka Florida/warm weather order) is a venti iced coffee with sugar-free caramel syrup and non-fat milk…mmm, Starbucks:)

But, thanks to the lovely 90-degree fall weather, I am enjoying my grande pumpkin spice lattes (served hot…I got frozen once, bad decision) to the fullest and will til they disappear once again!

Hope you’re having a great day!

  28. Corn sheets remind me of an animal I don’t like as well! Eeep!

  29. Low says:

Your pictures are so pretty! I love it! I do know what you mean about that corn picture though, haha.

My order is usually either a plain coffee, if I know it’s good, or an iced (or hot, depending on the weather) sugar-free vanilla latte w/ skim or soy. I want one right now!

  30. Lindsey says:

bizzare but I am trying to figure out what kind of animal looks like your veggie and corn salad!!

I’m allll about espresso when I get coffee- I go to all the starbucks in my area enough times that many of the baristas know to give me at least 3 shots of espresso on ice.. then I add my sweetner and creamer. So good!

but I’m glad you metioned the pumpkin latte because I have missed those dearly!

  31. Lisa says:

I usually just do a non-fat latte and sprinkle a whole bunch of cinnamon on top. One of my favorite breakfasts is a warm banana almond butter quesadilla. It nice and toasty and the warm banana actually tastes really good!

  32. Kara K says:

    Hi!

A couple of questions: do you spray anything on your apples to keep them from browning until lunch? They always look so delish! And with your corn, do you cook or steam it prior to putting it on your salads?

I prefer nectarines, hands down. I love fuzz-free.
And my favorite drink is one pump mocha, one pump caramel, no whip, non-fat, extra hot. I AM HIGH MAINTENENCE.

  33. Leianna says:

I limit my self to only one once in a while, but I love Caribou Iced Mochas! I have a coupon for a $1 off, so I’m thinking tomorrow I should go! Although Starbucks Pumkin Spice lattes sound amazing!

  34. Tay says:

lol I love your pretty stars! I like nectarines better than peaches. Preferably white ones! And I’m sooooo excited for pumpkin spice drinks. My usual order is an iced coffee or Americano. But I occasionally get a skinny latte or frappie light!

  35. I like nectarines better, no fuzz and for some reason they taste sweeter to me.

I always order either a nonfat latte and add some cinnamon or if I want some flavor + caffeine I will get a chai with a shot of espresso. They call it a dirty chai, love them!

Oh and that corn, yeah….snakes. I see it. ::shudders::

  36. Jen O says:

I get a soy latte. Sooo delicious!

Your lunches always look amazing! I want you to move here and pack me lunches everyday. I’m too lazy and so uncreative.

  37. Courtney says:

THAT CORN LOOKS LIKE A SNAKE!

  38. Kim says:

Your breaky looks so good! I may need to recreate that myself in the AM!

I normaly just get a decaf iced coffee, but now that Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back….YUM!! I ran right out to get one yesterday! HEaven!!

  39. Niki says:

So glad it’s pumpkin spice latte time! YUM! I usually order a nonfat no water chai latte!
