The Most Beautiful Thing in the World…

43

I’m an Auntie!!

I left work at 3:00 yesterday afternoon when I got the call that “it was time” and by 3:52 I had a beautiful, sweet-as-pie NEPHEW!

Finnegan William

They always say you love your baby the instant you see it’s face. Can it be the same for an Aunt and her Nephew?? The moment I saw him, I wept. It’s unbelievable how you can love something so much the moment you lay eyes on it. I’m getting weapy just typing this! He is beautiful, healthy (9lbs 2 oz!), loooooong (22 inches!!) and perfect in every way. My brother and his wife will be the most loving parents and I am so incredibly happy for them. I’ll share pictures with you all when I get the thumbs up for them (they’re both “online” w/ blogs, etc. so I want them to be able to share first.)

I took a million pictures with my cell phone too so I can stare at little Fin all day long and I’m heading down to the hospital during lunch today to see him and my brother/sister-in-law again – I just can’t wait!!

I didn’t get home until 9:00 last night, but I managed to whip together a delicious, nutritious Breakfast Cookie for this morning!

IMG_8552

That’s 1/3 cup old fashioned oats, 2 T skim milk, 1 T almond butter, dash of cinnamon, 1 mashed banana and a sprinkling of almonds.

IMG_8558

I’m telling you, the almonds in the batter are KEY. They are perfectly crunchy and you get a fabulous POP of almond flavor in every bite.

IMG_8563

I’m going to be honest, I ate the peaches all by themselves today because the cookie “dough” was so good!

 IMG_8568

For lunch I packed a Fiesta Salad.

IMG_8573

We’ve got:

  • Mixed greens
  • Spinach
  • Corn-off-the-cob
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Taco meat
  • Tillamook cheddar cheese
  • Dallop of light ranch dressing

IMG_8575

This shall be a delicious and satisfying lunch – it weighs about 2 pounds!!

IMG_8578

Like I said, I’m off to the hospital during my lunch hour today to visit the little babe, and family. I.can’t.wait.

Then…

It’s BRITNEY TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~~~~~
Tell me about your family. Is it big, small, medium sized? Do you have any brothers/sisters/children of your own?
My immediate family is made up of my Mom, Dad, an older brother, his wife and their new precious son, and a little brother (well, he’s only a year younger – but technically he IS my younger brother!)
    Congratulations Aunt Kristen! That is so exciting!
    My family is small. Me, Mom, Dad, Sister. No nieces or nephews. :( My husband and I don’t have any children, but we do have a dog and he is treated like a kid/grandkid. ;)
    I noticed in yesterday’s blog that you had drizzled honey on your bananas and toast. Have you ever tried Agave Nectar? It’s sweet like honey but has a low glycemic index (so your blood sugars won’t spike) and it never crystalizes like honey. It comes in light, amber, and dark (the darker the color, the stronger the flavor). It was recommended to me by our HyVee dietitian and is absolutely wonderful. I don’t even have honey in my cupboard anymore! You can usually locate it either near the honey or the sugar and sweetners in the grocery store.
    I have a pretty small family, just the parents and a “little” brother. He’s all of 6’4″ and has been able to kick my butt for years now, so it seems weird calling him little!
    And I can’t even begin to tell you how jealous I am that you get to see Britney tonight! Hope you have an amazing time!
My boyfriend however has an extended fam that could populate an entire state (he’s Italian) so I love that I get to experience that too! Have a great friday :)
    Congratulations! Yes, it is possible to love them that much. My little sister had a baby boy in December and I cried like a baby myself while we were waiting for her to deliver him – because I knew she was scared, and she is my little sister, after all! Nieces/nephews are beautiful blessings – have fun spoiling little Fin.
    I have my mom, dad, and younger brother–the blood related. Then there is my step-dad, step-mom, 4 step-brothers, and 2-step sisters total. One step brother is married but his wife had a kid long before they even met. Recently, my mom adopted two teenage hockey players for the next six months too…
    Congratulations! Being an auntie is so fun. I have two nephews (from one sister) and one baby niece (from my other sister). I also have a brother and the four of us always talk about how in 10 years we’re going to go on a big vacation with all of us and all our kids – so much fun.
  26. Comment Callout
    AAwwwww! I can’t wait to see pics…once you get approval of course. I feel the same about the kids of my friends. I don’t have any nieces and nephews yet but some of my good friends have kids and I love them to bits :-)
    My immediate family is just Me and Hunni, my brother who I don’t see much and My mom, Dad and Step Mom. WE are spread out a lot so I don’t see them much but I love them all.
    I come from a family of 6 kids and I have 4 of my own, 3 boys and 1 girl. It’s true what they say about “love at first sight”!! It’s an undescribable and overwelming feeling.
    My dad said something to me the day I was married. He wanted me to remember that once I have my first child I’ll really know how much he loves me! Kinda corny, but it really stuck with me!!
    Congratulations!! I felt the same way when my nephew was born. He was the 1st baby in the family, & I was also surprised how strongly I felt the moment he arrived (much more so than friends’ babies). Just wait until you have a baby! It’s even bigger & better! (Suddenly the nieces & nephews aren’t such a big deal.) I’m divorced w/ a 9-yr-old daughter. Growing up it was Mom, Dad, & younger brother.
    Congrats on becoming an auntie! Aunties are great for spoiling nieces and nephews.
    I consider my whole family to be large. Mom, dad, grandma, sister are in my immediate family. But then my dad is the youngest of 7 and my mom has 2 brothers, so I have a million aunts, uncles and cousins. Then, my hubby has his mom, dad, 2 sisters, 1 brother in law, 2 nieces and a ton of aunts, uncles and cousins.
    My family is pretty standard – one older sister, one younger brother. So I’m the middle kid. I love my siblings dearly ;)
    Congrats again, Auntie! I’m SO EXCITED for you. I love babies…and I can only imagine what it’s like to have a little nephew of my own.
    Congrats Auntie!! Just wait until you have your own, the love you feel is completely overwhelming!
    My immediate family is medium-sized, but my extended family is large. I’m married with two kids – a 4 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son, then there’s mom, dad, two younger (not little!) brothers, a sweet sister-in-law and rambunctious 1.5 yr old nephew. My mom is one of 9 children, so that makes for a rather large extended fam!
Hubby and I both have HUGE extended families, as well.
    Question: What do you do with the cookie? Mix it up and eat it right then…(raw oats???) or heat it up, or refrigerate it?
      Usually I make them at night and refrigerate overnight. I think this one I just ate right away (although I’m not 100% positive since it was so long ago!)
