Hey bud-buds!
Last night was incredibly un-eventful and involved me watching copious amounts of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Do you watch any of the “Housewives” shows? Which one is your favorite? Mine is the o.g. original Housewives of the O.C.. Remember when Quinn was on for that one season? That chick was ca-RAY-zee!
I’m glad I didn’t wear myself out though, because today I was up bright and early with the sunshine! I hopped out of bed at 7:30, jumped in the shower and headed to the grocery store. Can I just tell you what a true joy it is to grocery shop at 9am? There is nobody else there! No fighting for space in the aisles, no having to dig through the picked over produce…love it.
While there, I picked up a Starby’s beverage. Skinny vanilla latte with no foam, thank you very much.
I also picked up some Cascadian Farms Organic Granola! Me and granola are like this, so unfortunately I can’t buy it like, EVER, because I mow through 10 servings before I even know it!
Today though, I thought to myself – you can do this…you can portion out servings and control yourself. Plus I had a coupon, so I bought a box!
Let me tell you, choosing a flavor was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done – there were a million to choose from! Well not that much, but it least 7 different kinds!
It came down to Maple Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Raisin. CR won out because, well, Cinnamon and I are also like this.
I consider granola to be a treat. I mean, sugar is the second ingredient listed on the box. So, while this is breakfast for today, in the future it will be a snack or an after dinner treat. Regardless of when I eat it though, it is delicious and I highly recommend this brand and flavor!
I’m just twiddling my thumbs until Ben wakes up, as the house needs a good vacuuming, but I can’t turn on the vacuum until the man wakes up from his slumber. Hopefully I’ll get to see my nephew later, then I need to exercise! I’ve been a bit preoccupied the past couple of days and need to get back at it!

Is there anything you usually don’t purchase because you know you’ll eat way too much of it once you get it home?
I won’t buy chips either because I WILL eat it least 5 servings if I even taste 1 chip. They are my kryptonite.

#1 housewives = O.C. by far!! (NY = 2nd!) I could totally watch either season for hours :/ My boyfriend even watches it with me (don’t tell him I told you haha) – I think (know) he is secretly in love with Bethany! Maybe I am too haha, she is freaking hilarious – and we love Tamra too!
Those evil but oh so delicious Haagen Daaz ice creams and Sunchips. 1 serving for either of those is pretty much nonexistent.
Ice cream or chips are my weakness, one serving is never enough!
That granola looks great, love cinnamon too!
Have fun vaccuming!
I love their granola, it is really good. I try to eat it as a snack before I pour the whole box in my breakfast!
I am the same way with chips – that’s why I avoid buying them too!
I’m like the king of portioning so there’s nothing really like that, but I try to never let myself buy things that I’m craving that I know I’ll only eat one of and let the rest go bad. I really wanted canadian bacon last week for no reason but out of a pack of 8 I know I would’ve eaten 2 and thrown the rest out.
I never got into the housewives series, but i know my mom LOVED the OC and Atlanta ones. Do yourself a favor since you love cinnamon so… ask your starbucks person to put a little cinnamon at the bottom of your sf/nf latte (with the syrup) before the shots go in. HEAVEN!
If I buy a box of Peanut Butter Puffins, I eat the entire thing in less then a week. I try not to buy them because I end up wanting them for every meal!
I love my Skinny Lattes. I always get the cinnamon dolce because me and cinnamon are likethis
I can’t buy much cereal or ice cream because it is gone in seconds. I also can’t buy cases of diet coke because I mow through it. I’m working on it though. I bought a box of Kashi Autum harvest the other week and actually ate it like a normal person
I just got back from grocery shopping! The morning is the best time to do it because no one else is there. I usually never buy cookies or candy because I’ll definately eat them all!
i cant buy PB Puffins. I eat a box in literally a week. sometimes 6 days. its aweful. but SO so SO delicious.
i sometimes just cant resist.
and same with Kashi Cinnomon Harvest!
i bought the chocolate almond granola. its amazing! you must get it next time
Oh, and housewives of OC? and NYC? im addicted,!
I love the Real Housewives, all of them! But I must agree, the original OC is my favorite as well.
I like to grocery shop in the morning too. It is one of my favorite things to do, so I like to take my time and have it be peaceful, LOL.
And granola is a guilty pleasure of mine as well. The portion size is a lot small than one would think, so before you know it, you could easily have consumed 800 calories
But, when you portion it out, it is much easier to manage. Yours looks delish!
You are so right about mornings being a peaceful time to shop. The only bad part is sometimes they haven’t finished restocking the shelves if you’re there too early!
I avoid buying chips (esp. anything cheese flavored) or cookies, because they’ll be gone in like, 2 days. I really should do the same with chocolate, but I’m too addicted to the stuff!
The original OC is my favorite Housewives. I can’t stand to watch the Atlanta one – way too much over the top fighting for me!
I can’t buy any fun, junk cereal like Frosted Flakes even for a treat. I will eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For like 2 days straight. Until the box is gone.
I bought that granola a few weeks back and totally charged my way through the box – it’s so delicious isn’t it?!
My thing is also chips. I always sigh a little inside when the hubs picks up a bag because I LOVE them and cannot say no to them…grr.
Cookies. There are these cookies at Ikea that come in a box, they’re short bread style cookies with chocolate in the middle … and I would eat the whole box if they came home. So, even though sometimes they even make it in my cart! I do end up leaving them at the store.
I love granola, too. You can reduce the sugar content by making it at home. Enjoy!
This post lists my 2 fave recipes: http://healthnut-em.blogspot.com/2009/04/granola-goodness.html
hahah chips, and cereal are my things that i can’t really buy. i could go through a box of puffins or frosted mini wheats with no problem at all! hahahah
your nephew is SOOOOOO cute, and those breakfast skillets look bomb! hmmm…i would have to say my kryptonite is ice cream. i CANNOT buy that or it will be gone in two days (perhaps one…)
looks like you had a fun weekend – enjoy your evening!
Haha, I’m the same way with granola. It’s just too good to only use such a small amount. I think I could eat the entire box if I had to.
Hmmm, other things that are dangerous in my household would be coolwhip, cake-batter ice cream, and cookie dough. These things are banned; okay not banned entirely, just highly monitored.
I also don’t buy chips because I mindlessly snack on them even if I don’t even like them that much. Cereal – the serving size is just too small and it doesn’t keep me full. Last time I bought cereal were just for fun when I picked some Lithuanian brand (Hazelnut and Cinnamon flavored puffs). Love cinnamon!
I’m the same way with granola. I just really can’t have it in the house! I’m also surprised when people consider it SUPER healthy. I mean, it’s not necessarily that bad, but there is so much added sugar. Anyways, I really can’t have ice cream! I go through phases where I’m good with the ice cream, and then one night I eat it all at once. And I’m back to square 1 haha.
Haha chips and nuts are the bane of my existence when it comes to portion control, but I do keep them around because I love them so much. Knowing that I go a little crazy with them, they aren’t everyday treats. I would’ve gone with the CR granola, too… Loooks delish!
Hi Kristin! I just started reading your blog and I love it! You’re really inspiring me to break out the fresh fruits and veggies and get back to eating healthier–thank you! Congrats on the new nephew, I have 3 of ‘em and they are awesome. Nuts and turkey jerky are really hard for me to put down once I start, argh!
Good chocolate chip cookies are not welcome in my home. They would spend 3 minutes in my cabinet before I ate them all. I have only watched the Real Houswives of NJ and it was amazing – I hope they bring it back for another season.
