Nice People Make the World Go Round + Three Question Thursday!

33

On Tuesday evening I was mourning my empty Australian Licorice container – well the lid anyways…I’m not sure where the actual container got to…did I eat it??

IMG_8942

I had rationed and savored every delicious bite, but like they say – all good things must come to an end, right? WRONG!

Thank Heavens for friends like Holly from The Healthy Everythingtarian – I came home from work last night to a care package from Ms. ‘Tarian herself! Inside said package: Aussie Licorice!!!!!

IMG_8922

Two kinds! Ugh – can you even believe that? She also sent an awesome Halloween Cookie Cutter, which is too funny because I almost bought the exact same one last weekend! Sure glad I didn’t ;)

IMG_8920

Plus she included a nice note which showed off some mad handwriting skillz :) THANKS HOLLY – you rock!!

 IMG_8912 IMG_8913

IMG_8917 IMG_8916

Nice people make the world go round – know what I mean?

So I woke up starving this morning and was sure glad I had a Pear Breakfast Cookie waiting for me in the fridge :)

IMG_8967

My breakfast cookie contained:

  • 1 mashed banana
  • Heaping 1/3 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 T skim milk
  • 1 T almond butter
  • dash of cinnamon

For a topper, I sliced up a sweet Bartlett Pear :)

IMG_8960 IMG_8970

Chewy, creamy, sweet & soooo satisfying.

IMG_8976

A couple of people have asked me what the consistency of a breakfast cookie should be. It’s more of a cookie dough consistency, rather than a hand held cookie consistency…ie, you eat it with a spoon!

IMG_8971

So I’m actually lucky that today’s lunch survived the night, because I was this close to crushing it last night – it’s leftover Baked Sweet Potato with Apple & Turkey Sausage!

IMG_8954

I am…so jazzed…

IMG_8956

FYI – I always choose Granny Smith apples to cook or bake with. They keep their shape really well, but also get gloriously tender and sweet.

IMG_8958

This should be good to keep me going through the afternoon. We’ve got carbs + fiber (potato & apples) as well as protein and healthy amounts of fat (sausage.) Sweeeet.

Well according to the results of last week’s pollTQT shall go forth and prosper! Thanks for participating! Heeeeere we go:

1. How do you like your eggs?

2. Would you rather be stung by a bee in the eyelid or have a giant catfish think your finger is bait and clamp onto your hand? (You can thank Bear Grylls for that question…)

3. What was last year’s Halloween costume?

My answers!

1. Scrambled!

2. Mmmm bee – no question.

3. Shawn Johnson (homegirl lives down my street!) Ben was Bela Karolyi…could you just die?!

    1. Over-medium
    2. Hmm…been bitten by a catfish, but never stung by a bee…but i’d still go with bee!
    3. Last year? I just wore a skeleton T-shirt since costumes weren’t allowed at work. The year before I was a cat!

I love Australian liquorice! Did you know that World Market in West DSM carries it! As does my local Hy-Vee, so if you run out it is available locally!

    1. Scrambled, usually! (Over-easy is great on toast, or poached on an English muffin!)
    2. Um…I’ll go with bee, if I must.
    3. Haven’t worn a costume in at least five years, but I’m not opposed to it.

    1. Scrambled…just scrambled some with spinach and put it into a wrap!
    2. Finger, the thought of something happening to my eye always scares me.
    3. Last year me and my friend were proteins, once again I know I’m a science nerd :)

    2. finger! anything eye, EEK! i already have vision limitations, i’m not about to add to that!
    3. i don’t think we dressed up last year! i want to but boyfriend’s no fun!

Sunny side up or in an omlet!
I did get bit by a mosquito by my eye and it swelled up like I had been in a fight with Tyson!
No costume last year, but have a Great Idea for this year, just got invited to a party last night!

Halloween is my FAVE holiday, sorry other holidays.

    1. Love all eggs, but if I had to pick, over easy.
    2. Catfish. I’ve done it before. They don’t have teeth, just a rough sandpaper feel, but a strong grip when they bite down. Still got all my fingers.
    3. No costume last year.

you are too sweet and too welcome my dear – thank YOU for all your help! it was so appreciated!

ummm that sausage/apple/sweet potato dish looks amazing – perfect for this cool fall weather. definitely adding that to my list!

    (1) eggs – i like em’ runny!
    (2) i am going to go bee too – the thought of a catfish clamping onto my hand is NOT a pretty one.
    (3) a red-tailed black cockatoo…it’s a long story :)

    have a fabulous thursday!

    1. Eggs – I like them over easy, with a runny yolk. Mmm.

    2. Hmm, probably the catfish. Bee stings are just downright awful. Not that a catfish bite would be a walk in the park.

    3. I kind of hate Halloween so I didn’t really dress up. But my joke was that I was going as a ‘surburban mom’ because I went trick or treating w/ my nephews and carried my 7 month nephew in a baby bjorn.

I have made something similar to your dish but I am definitely trying your recipe ASAP, thanks for sharing!
    1) scrambled or in a frittata with lots of veggies
    2) I’m allergic to bees, so I’ll have to say the catfish.
    3) I went as a mom taking her two toddlers, a Hershey kiss and a lion, trick or treating.

  13. Comment Callout

    1. Scrambled – no doubt!
    2. very random… I’d pick the catfish on hand so I didn’t have to deal with a swollen eyelid.
    3. I was a dirty martini for Halloween last year. It was homemade and very lame! I hate spending $$ on halloween costumes!

    What a lovely surprise! :)
    1) scrambled w/ cheese & veggie mix-ins
    2) bee sting (ouch!)
    3) I think I was lame & didn’t dress up last year, or if I did I sure can’t remember what I was haha :/

  15. Comment Callout

    What an adorable costume!

    1. Scrambled. It’s the only way I will eat eggs.

    2. Bee sting.

    3. My office did an 80′s theme. It was lots of fun.

mmm I have not had a pear for.ever! I need to break out some of those (I always get in fruit and veggie ruts and seem to eat the same thing over and over).
Im curious but where do you do your grocery shopping in DSM? I used to work in West Des Moines and as much as I love Hyvee, sometimes the produce and selection just didnt do it for me :(
Ill be in Des Moines next weekend for the Dave Matthews concert! Any crazy restaurant ideas? Im dying to try something new before we go jam out at principal park :)

  17. Comment Callout

Nice people are great! I love just getting hand written notes instead of emails because it shows people care enough to take the time and spend for the stamp. They just make me smile.

    1. How do you like your eggs? I like egg white omelettes with lots of veggies on a whole wheat tortilla with cheese and salsa. But if I have to eat them plain I like over-medium.

    2. Would you rather be stung by a bee in the eyelid or have a giant catfish think your finger is bait and clamp onto your hand? (You can thank Bear Grylls for that question…)
Definitely the catfish. I’m allergic to bees so that could be dangerous to my health and I could lose my eye :0(

    3. What was last year’s Halloween costume? I didn’t dress up because I was recovering from surgery and had to lay on the couch in my PJ’s. I guess you could say I was dressed as a college student :-)

    1. Scrambled and usually only the egg whites.

Awww, how sweet of Holly!! I’ve never tried this type of licorice, I’ll have to keep my eye out for it.

Your breakie cookie looks fabulous this morning. It’s been about a week or more since I’ve had one last. Why have I gone this long? Silly me!

I hope your lunch is fabulous :) Mike brought leftovers in sandwich form today- meatloaf sandwich. Not going to lie, it kind of sounds appetizing…

    1. I’m a scrambled girl
    2. I would rather have a fish bite my finger I think, that’s a toss up!

    Great costumes!

    1. I’m vegan, so I don’t eat eggs. I never liked them anyhow. But I do make the occasional omelet or egg sammy for the omni hub.

    2. No lie, I’ve been stung in the eyelid TWICE. It’s wasn’t pretty. I think it still was probly better than the catfish bite would be, though.

    3. I didn’t dress up last year (can’t remember why…?). One of my favorite Halloweens was when hub (before he was hub) and I dressed as Tyler and Marla from Fight Club. I was skeptical that others would know who we were supposed to be, but everyone did! Costume success.

    1. Whites only!
    2. Catfish.
    3. My fiance and I were Double Dare contestants (complete with orange flags, goggles and a cup taped to our helmets – to catch slime). We were the red team. And we happened to run into a blue team at a bar. So we put them up to a physical challenge (a beer chugging relay race). The red team won, of course.

BTW, I tried the breakfast cookie and couldn’t handle it cold. So I heated it up and it was perfect. I even added a little brown sugar on top… the melted sugar made it dessert-like. Fab fab.

    3. I was sick last year so I didn’t dress up :( I’m not sure what I’ll be this year yet…I need to start thinking

    1) Over hard or better yet over broken – ie break the yoke before it’s flipped…I don’t want any runny egg yolk.

    2) Do catfish have teeth? I think catfish unless they are rather shark like.

    3) I was in New Orleans last year so I had no costume except drunk girl…

don’t worry K I didn’t forget about your starbucks surprise…it’s still on my counter
