Good morning everyone – Happy Monday to you, and you, and you…and you.
It’s officially cold as H for my morning Mom walks, so today I layered on:
- T-shirt
- Long sleeved t-shirt
- Medium thickness sweatshirt
- Thick thickness sweatshirt
and I was STILL a little bit chilly – eep! I’m holding off on adding a real coat into the mix for as long as possible. The impending winter seems too real if I’m wearing an actual jacket! To make up for the temps, nature provided us an unbeliveably beautiful, October harvest moon to walk under
I broke out the toaster when I got home to warm up my cold paws and toasted the last of my Great Harvest Orange Cranberry bread. I smeared my slices with some of the fresh raspberry preserves I got at Berry Harvest Farm this weekend!
I’ve never had fresh from the vine fruit preserves – and let me tell you – it is scrumptious! I am so glad we picked up a jar!
I also had a creamy, smeared with raspberry preserves Blueberry Cheesecake yogurt.
A fab, fruity and filling breakfast. I dug it.
Lunch has hopped on board the beauty train…look how pretty! It’s an IGE Cobb Salad.
Did you know that the Cobb salad was invented by Robert H. Cobb and was a signature menu item of the Drake Hotel in Chicago, Illinois? Its main ingredients are iceberg lettuce, tomato, bacon, chicken breast, hard-boiled egg, avocado, and roquefort cheese. Mine’s kind of like that, right? Kind of?
In the mix:
- Mixed greens
- Celery
- Cherry tomatoes
- Roasted turkey
- Dried cranberries
I’m getting to the point where I have to have something sweet in my salads. Dried cranberries seem to do the job nicely.
And you didn’t think I’d pick all those Honeycrisps and not have one each and every single day until they’re gone, did you??
Have you ever had a limited supply of something that you have to share with someone, and you find yourself eating it faster than you normally would because you want to make sure you get your “fair share?” Mmmm…I feel as though this may be the case between Ben and I, and our Honeycrisps…shoot.
Well, my bags are packed, I’m ready to go…running after work! Plan = 4 miles + 1 mile walk. Like I mentioned yesterday – this week is going to be a busy one, but I’m trying to get better at making exercise a priority in my life. I’ll always be busy and there will always be something that needs to be done – that will never change. Therefore I need to remember that while there will always be “something else I could be doing” – my health is most important!
Have a great day back everyone!

For me: Ideal = 5. Actual = 3-4. I prefer to get my workouts in during the week so I can relax during the weekend. I know that’s kind of opposite from the average Joe/Jane. Also, for me personally, I consider “working out” to be any heart-pumping activity that lasts longer than 30 minutes. Does your definition of working out differ from mine?

I try to get a workout 4-5 days per week… I’d like to do 6 days, but that doesn’t always happen. Have a great day!
Great question! I’m looking forward to seeing the response. I average 4 workouts per week. Would be interested to know if people prefer to work out in the AM or PM too? Due to work schedules I don’t have time in the morning (although it would be my preference as I find I don’t have as much motivation at the end of the day).
I usually run 5 days a week. I also do strength training in there and occasaionally, I through in a 6th day with cross training.
I know what you mean about eating something faster than I normally would b/c I am sharing it! LOL! That is too funny! Fortunately my daughter hasn’t picked up on the Honey Crisps yet….she is loving the gala apples right now!
When my body is completely healthy I like some sort of workout everyday. It just makes me feel better all around…mind, mood, health, heart. Now with my hip injury I’ve been a major slacker. I tend to see working out as having to be 60 minutes of sweat but I’m trying to change that mindset since I don’t know what the timeframe is on this recovery. I just did 30 minutes of moderate exercise on Saturday and then walked in Boston. Yesterday was rest and today I’m back to the gym.
BTW I hear you on not wanting to wear a coat. Wearing a coat is admitting the nice weather is gone and the snow is coming. AHHH!
i do like to try to get in 4 to 5 times a week of working out, but that doesn’t always work with my schedule. i welcome everyday that i exercise with open arms!
I can’t believe that morning sky, it was soooo pretty!!
have an awesome day
I have you beat – I had to wear earmuffs and gloves this morning while out on my walk. FREEEEEEEZING!!
i’m like you in that i prefer working out during the week, even though things are hectic–and leave my weekends to “relax” and do some kind of fun activity (that doesn’t really feel like exercise)!
that early morning picture is gorgeous! have a great day!
Delicious looking breakfast. Great Harvest bread is seriously the some of the best bread that I have ever had. My husband and I go through a loaf in a week if we don’t watch it. Good for you for making health a priority. Very inspiring.
I try (and most weeks this doesn’t happen) for 5 days, but I’m happy with 4. I count yoga, spinning, running and bike riding as exercise. Yoga is HARD I usually can’t do all the poses. Eeek I’m so weak!
I try to hit the gym every day, unless I’m just not feeling it. I think it’s not good to compare person to person, though, because we’re all at different levels and for different motives
The harvest moon this weekend was so gorgeous! So glad you got a pic
I work out 3-4 times a week. I’m trying to work on it more, because I love how my body feels afterward. I agree that health is most important! HEY! The Shred is only 20 minutes… how do you call that exercise? Huh? Huh? Haha, only joking. If anything is exercise–THAT video definitely is.
Have a good one!
KRISTIN – ummmm FABULOUS weekend! i need to go to the apple orchard and stat! that is one of my very favorite things about fall!
your nephew is also uber-adorable, as are you and ben. love the crunch video too!
have a wonderful monday and manage your busy week well!
My idea of “working out” is just general movement … not like walking to the bathroom or anything, but getting a good 45 – 50 minute walk in at lunch, or going for a 30 minute run after work, or even getting up and climbing hills on the treadmill for 20 minutes. I feel that all of those “movements” will accumulate to a good workout during the day and as long as I get at least one in, I’m doing something. I’m still on the losing-weight train and I know people try to really amp up their workouts, but I don’t mind the slow and steady losses – I’d rather keep up workouts that I will do every day for the rest of my life, than kill myself with working out every day of the week, knowing that won’t continue once I reach my goal. Make sense?

Fun poll: it was interesting to see other people’s answers! I am a 3-4 times a week girl although I feel like I am always aiming for 5-6! Ha.
I agree with you on the 30 minutes thing except that when I have an “easy 2 mile run” scheduled into my runnning plan I would call it a workout even though it’s only 20 mins and I hardly broke a sweat! Hmmm.
Love your salads…turkey in salad is so good – dried cranberries makes it thanksgiving-y!
Oh and by the way, meant to say thanks for the sweet comment on my wedding band! It’s simple but it works for me!
oh yum! fresh raspberry preserves are my favorite!! on homemade bread. . . yum.
i try to work out 3-5 times a week. im not really into cardio or massive sweaty workouts.. im hoping to work up to that once my health is better.. and perhaps weight and mussle mass are up a bit too. . . I enjoy yoga, stretching, looong walks (hour +, ish), strength, pilates. I do enjoy jogging.. but its generally short and sweet. but its what works best for me.. I just have to keep telling myself that.. i compare myself far to much.
Hi! I voted 3-4 days a week; I’d like to work out more but I get so tired! And i work out during the week too because I’m home by myself and I can concentrate; and that leaves Van full use of the equiplment on the weekends. plus we like to go hiking on the weekends!
I just blogged about my new/old vid that I got to work out to today; Eight minute abs!
And that bread you got looks too beautiful to eat; so does that Cobb Salad! I <3 Cobb Salad!!!
Have a great week!
Oh I needed to change my email on here. Dang! xD
Okay, A. You need to forsake your wedding vows and stash some honeycrisps just for yourself B. Keep those DIY’s coming, I love those!
agreed some days I take a long walk and do yoga, but that’s a workout! I used to think only sweat busting counted.
oh yeah hope you have stopped by for all the crazy giveaways going on http://runtothefinish.blogspot.com/2009/10/moe-money-moe-problems-moeben-giveaway.html
I went through the same dilema on my run/walk this morning…coat or no coat? I decided I didn’t have the time to dig out the warm clothes and opted for the treadmill instead. I generall get in a work out 6 days a week, but more so for my mental sanity! I enjoy the time alone and love the adrenaline rush after a great run.
Sometimes it can be easier to make my goals when my husband runs with you. Does yours run? I had worried he’d be SO Much faster than me, it’d be a worthless 45 minutes for him. He does slow down a lot, but he always speeds me up and it’s a nice activity for us to do together!
Ideally I’d like to work-out 5 days a week, but it’s more like 3. For me, a workout consists of anything that gets me moving for longer than 20 minutes.
Whether it’s lifting weights, kick boxing or going for a hike with my dog, if I get that heart-rate going for a while, I consider it a work-out.
I love having something sweet in my salads. Dried fruit is a great option, so are grapes, num!
Good luck on your workout tonight. Life gets in the way sometimes, but at least you are getting out there and moving a few times a week
Fall is in the air, but what a better way to warm up from a chilly morning walk then with warm sweet bread.
Love your Cobb Salad. Do you watch “Curb Your Enthusiasm?” This reminds me of one episode I just saw where Larry and his wife are out to dinner with another couple and Larry orders the cobb salad but asks for all these substitutions. The other guy gets really offended and says that his g-pa invented the Cobb Salad and it is a true insult to change anything about it.
Thanks for shedding some light on to the real inventor behind this salad beauty!
I totally agree with your vision of Working Out!
I too like to take weekends off (typically), however I am currently following a 10K Training Program in which I get Friday & Sunday’s OFF so I do a long run on Saturday morning but that is not too bad as I like having Friday’s off and I find running over the weekend keeps me from gaining weight from the “extra eating” I tend to do as well.
