Happy Birthday To…

Soooooomebody’s a little bit older and wiiiiser today! BEN! 27 years ago today, my little gemstone of a husband was born. Here’s the stud muffin rooting for the Minnesota Twins last night…he was screaming as loud as he usually does for the Miami Hurricanes…check him out in action!

Ahhh – the face of innocence. :) I have a special dinner planned for tonight – something very atypical for the IGE household, but it was a special request from the birthday boy, so I must oblige. ;) Recipe to come tonight!

So today’s breakfast and lunch were inspired by the desire to clean out some of the surplus food in the fridge and pantry…thus, a little random – but still delish!

Breakfast includes some of that Bear Naked Fruit and Nut granola perfection which I had picked up a bunch of when they were 2/$1 at the store awhile ago, a perfect Honeycrisp apple which we all know I have supplies to last for days of (yes!) and a CherryCashew PURE Bar!

Perfection…in…every…bite…

For lunch I packed another Honeycrisp apple (you knew the day would come when I would crush 2 in one day, muwahaha!) a Honey Wheat Bagel which I have another pack of in my freezer and a sample of Sunflower Seed Butter that I received in the mail awhile ago.

I’m not sure what to think about this sunflower seed butter. I like nut butters, I like sunflower seeds…so I should probably like sunflower seed butter, right? At any rate, my plan is to slather it all over my apple and bagel…mmmm!

Pretty good for rummaging through my cupboards and coming up with 2 meals on the fly!

I’m excited to give Ben his birthday gifts tonight – I think I’ve got all his “favorites” covered in one way or another. Crossing my fingers!!

~~~~~
When’s your birthday? Do you have any special birthday traditions?
My birthday is July 5th – my Mom picked the name Kristin because she thought it sounded like a firecracker…hmmm.
The birthday tradition in my family is to have the Pepperidge Farms Cake as our birthday cake. Yep, the one in your grocer’s freezer isle! It started one year when my Dad forgot my Mom’s birthday until like 3:00pm the day of, so he raced to the grocery store to get her a cake, picked up the first one he saw – which happened to be the pepperidge farms one – and it was still frozen when they cut into it that night. Busted! Ever since then, it’s all we’ve eaten for every family member’s birthday! Good thing it’s the best cake in the world, otherwise I’m not so sure how I’d feel about getting a frozen and thawed cake for my birthday!?
    Aw, Happy Birthday Ben! I can’t wait to see what you’re cookin’ up!
    My b-day is June 4th. Aren’t summer birthdays the BEST?! Our only tradition is cake, cake, cake! My personal preference? White cake with white buttercream frosting. So bad, but sooooo so good. I’ve never had this Pepperidge Farms cake you speak of – I might have to suggest that for the next birthday! Is it expensive? (I’m cheap). :-)
    My birthday is actually July 6th! And my Mom used to tell me that the firecrackers were in celebration of me ;) To this day they are my most favorite thing – last year the hubs surprised me with a “private” (in our backyard) HUGE fireworks show as my birthday present. The neighborhood kids were thrilled!
    My birthday is July 4th. I love it–never having to work, getting to BBQ, it doesn’t get any better. We had a huge party (60+ people) at our new house this year and I am hoping to make that a tradition!
  7. Haha I love family traditions! We used to always be on vacation during my sister’s birthday and for like 10 years we got this crazy cake from Publix with ice cream cones on the end. Hope you enjoy the bday celebrations!
    My birthday is June 29th. Every year my mom makes me a watermelon out of three different kinds of sherbert with chocolate chips for seeds! Hubby doesn’t like it, but its my birthday and I love it!
  9. Tay says:
    LOVE sunflower seed butter. It really tastes exactly like sunflower seeds. Hope you like it too!
    My birthday’s in April, and a tradition in our fam was that our dad would always come home from work with a bouquet of flowers for us. So now they send us one each year. :-D
    Have a wonderful hump day!
    Happy Birthday, Ben! I can’t wait to see what he wanted for dinner.
    My birthday is actually next Tuesday, October 13. 6 days until I’m 21! Tradition? Um… I tend to always have Italian–chicken alfredo from Macaroni Grill is a fave. Then at my dad’s house we have my grandma’s stroganoff. New tradition starting this year- a toast to a new year since I’ll be old enough too ;)
    My birthday is EarthDay, April 22. The birthday boy/girl in my house gets to pick dinner/dessert. Sunday is my hubb’s birthday, which means I’ll be making lasagna and brownies.
    Happy birthday! I still have half a year to go(March 29th)
  14. Awww Happy bithday IGE hubby!
    I love sunflower seed butter. They sell it in a jar at TJ’s and my mom bought some for me to try. It was different than other nut butters but really delicious.
    My birthday is 12 January. It is 7 days after my brothers and 17 days after my moms. Our tradition was to buy all of our gifts for christmas and then we got to choose which one we wanted to open on our birthday. Each year it was a struggle to decide between opening the big ones on christmas or my birthday. And then we would have family dinner. Also we always left our tree up until my birthday and then took it down. We were the crazy family with the tree up til the middle of january :-)
  15. Machelle says:
    I LOVE Pepperidge Farms cakes! Coconut is my favorite! The chocolate w/white frosting is 2nd. And they are not expensive. WalMart has them real cheap. When I lived with my parents, mom would always make me homemade custard on my bithday! YUM! She cheated one year & made it from a mix…it was awful, but I didn’t want to say so! She kept asking how it was over & over again…finally I told her it wasn’t quite up to snuff! Then she confessed her sin! Ha! She never tried that again and we still laugh about it every year!
  16. Happy Birthday Ben! I can’t wait to see what he requested!
    My birthday is July 19th. In my family the birthday boy or girl got to pick where they wanted to eat. We went through some interesting choices over the years!
    I love those Pepperidge Farm cakes. They always remind me of my Nana. She used to buy them all the time!
    My birthday is June 24th!
    Happy Birthday, Ben!
    My birthday is May 14th. I don’t really have any special traditions. As a kid, I’d always request pizza for dinner on my birthday, but I’ve gotten out of that over the past few years. :)
  19. My Birthday is March 25th!!!
    As a kid I used to always tell everyone it is “3″ months after Christmas, EXACTLY! =O My mom reminds me of that every year!
    Honestly, over the past few years I haven’t done anything “special” on my birthday……=(……except for this year as I went on a 2 week vacation back to Colorado (where I was born and raised)! IT WAS WONDERFUL! I even saw the house I grew up in. =)
    Happy Birthday to Ben!! My birthday is May 24th :)
    I tried sun nut butter this weekend (a different brand than what you have) and I was not a fan. It was probably silly on my part to buy it in the first place because I’ve never even had a sunflower seed in my life. I returned it for some AB – my love.
  22. Aw, happy birthday to your hubby! How sweet! Can’t wait to see what you make for his special day!
    And can I just reiterate how jealous I am of your honeycrisp supply?
    My birthday is Dec. 25th and my middle name is Noel. It was supposed to be Renee unitl I was born on Christmas! Our birthday tradition is we all go out to eat and the birthday person chooses the place! Been doing it forever! In my case we always go on Christmas Eve after church:)
  28. Happy birthday Ben!!! Someone’s bout to get spoiled! I had an equally loud husband on the couch next to me yesterday yelling his head off for the Twins!! I don’t even like baseball and it was super fun to watch!
    That is a breakfast of champions my friend. I like it. I am also really intrigued about the sunflower seed butter. People keep telling me I’ll love it but I keep reaching for the Almond Butter…let us know!!
  29. Wendy says:
    Happy birthday Mr. IGE!
    Mine is in just a couple months – Nov. 30. No special tradition, really. When my brothers and I were kids, Mom baked us a cake for our birthdays. Now that I’m the mom, I bake the cakes for everyone else, but no one thinks to make one for me. :( Maybe this year I’ll just make one for myself! :)
  30. Dave says:
    I have had a Cherry Dream Pie for my birthday for every one of the 25 birthdays I’ve had since I married my wife. It’s a recipe I saw in one of my mom’s womens’ magazines. It is like a cheescake, but made with Eagle Brand milk, cream cheese and lemon juice. Wow, it is so creamy! My wife uses a graham cracker crust and either fresh fruit, or, since my Bday’s in March, a can of Wilderness cherry pie filling. Oh so rich and goooood!
    Happy birthday to Ben!
    We don’t have major b-day traditions in our house except for cake, which is one of my favorite foods!
    My college roommate introduced me to those Pepperidge Farm cakes during Freshman year. Yummy!!! They are much better still slightly frozen/cold, don’t you think?
    Have a good one!
  32. Happy birthday Ben!
    Mine’s today Oct 8th. ;)
    Sorry I’ve been away sooo long. Thank you for your comforting words.
