Product Reviews:

I wanted to tell you about some new stuff I tried this week!

Bear Naked Cranberry Raisin Cereal: Like I said, the sugar content was pretty high in this sample but overall it was super crunchy from the flakes and satisfyingly chewy from the dried apples. It was also VERY SEEDY as there were a ton of pepita (pumpkin) and sunflower seeds in here. You could probably add some nuts and – if you’re feeling sassy – some chocolate chips, to make this a killer trail mix!

Sunbutter Sunflower Seed Spread: This was really tasty slathered on a hot bagel – but it also made for a very strange user experience. You know how peanut butter and almond butter don’t taste exactly like peanuts and almonds? I mean they do, but it’s not like you feel like you’re eating them when you have the buttered version? Well sunflower seed butter tastes exactly like you’re eating a sunflower seed. It’s really strange! Good strange though, if you like sunflower seeds. ;)

Recipe:

It’s here! The Old-Fashioned Mac & Cheese recipe that I made for Ben’s birthday comes from the ooooold school Betty Crocker cookbook and is so simple that they mixed the ingredients and directions into one big paragraph!

Directions*: Cook 1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni in boiling, salted water till tender; drain. In saucepan melt 3 tablespoons butter; blend in 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and dash pepper. Add 2 cups milk; cook and stir constantly until thick and bubbly. Add 8 ounces sharp processes American cheese, cubed (2 cups); stir until melted.

Mix cheese sauce with macaroni. Turn into 1 1/2-quart casserole. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes, or till heated through. Makes 6 servings.

*I added a couple dashes of hot sauce to the cheese sauce and I only baked for 30 minutes. The best!

The Proposal

Good morning! I’m feeling very Christmasy today…perhaps it’s the red cardigan and Christmas tree ornament-esque necklace? Or maybe it’s because it’s supposed to snow this weekend?! Don’t get me started… Anyways, given the temps, I thought it was HIGH time I made a warm, comfy bowl of oatmeal for breakfast!…
