When You Just Can’t Eat Another Salad

31

Good morning buddies!

Good rainy morning is more like it – my walk was foiled by rain – rats! I was counting on this one today too, because I’ve got a much needed and exciting excursion to take after work! Ah well, you can’t win them all. Hopefully I can get out during my lunch hour if it dries up a little.

For breakfast this morning I planned ahead, took a Honey Wheat bagel out of the freezer last night and let it thaw in the fridge overnight.

This morning is was just like new, ready to toast and be topped with almond butter and a banana.

IMG_1575

Like I’ve said before, whenever I find items on sale that freeze well such as bread, meat, cheese, etc. – I stock up! Nothing better than thinking you don’t have anything to eat and then remembering you’ve got a giant stash of stuff in the freezer!

This was everything I imagined it to be – hot, chewy, creamy and sweet. The combination of banana and almond butter cannot be beat!

IMG_1579

I also sliced up a sweet, crunchy Honeycrisp Apple.

IMG_1570

I’ve been seeing these babies on sale for under $2.00/lb. everywhere these days! I’m making the commitment to stock up this weekend if I can still find them at that price because, fun fact: apples can last from 3-6 months if stored properly in the refrigerator. Nice!

IMG_1572

For lunch I’m going to get something from my work cafeteria or maybe walk up to the nearby market to pick something up. Because you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do when you don’t have any leftovers, your husband did the grocery shopping for the week and you just can’t eat another salad.

In other news, you may or may not know that I adore the website 1,000 Awesome Things. It’s a daily blog that chronicles life’s little awesome things, and is lighthearted, funny and most of all true! That said, I’d like to honor something that I think is awesome: fresh eyeliner.

You know – when the tip is perfectly sharp and the color glides on as smooth as silk?

IMG_1233

Awesome!

Have a great hump day everyone!

Have you ever “eaten something to death”?

I went through a period right out college when I ate a can of soup nearly everyday for lunch. I had just started my first job and soup was portable, inexpensive and easy to heat up for lunch. I completely OD’d on the stuff and still can’t eat canned soup to this day!

I used to live across the street from Panera when I worked my job in public accounting with endlesssssss hours (i.e. no time to prepare my own meals) and I’ll tell ya that I still don’t get very excited about Panera very often since then – I think I ate it 4 times a week hahaha.

I am intrigued by this apple fact, how should they be stored (i.e. in a ziploc, etc) bc I find that mine get mushy after a few weeks? Thanks girl :)

Oh man. I tend to “eat things to death” a LOT.

Let’s see … in college, it was tuna. I had a can of tuna for lunch almost every day because it was easy, extremely healthy and cheap.

Last year it was oatmeal. I ate at least one bowl of oatmeal daily. I mixed it with all sorts of different things, but man, i’m still sick of oatmeal!

When I was 16 I started eating cereal everyday! I had like 10 different boxes at a time (not the healthy kind lol ) I was OBSESSED I had a calendar with the name of the cereal for that day, the total of servings of a box, what will be my next kind of cereal
    I know it’s so sick

Honeycrisps are on sale at Hy-Vee for $1.38/lb through 26-Oct. I’d never tried this variety of apples until I read about how much you liked them – My tried and true was the braeburn – not anymore! Thanks!

yay! So I can keep my Honeycrisps in the fridge as a treat! I just bought a big ole’ bag at the grocery for $4.99. Didn’t think that was too bad?

I DEFINITELY got strung out on the Campbell’s “Soup by the Hand” when I was teaching. I had about 20 minutes for lunch, and usually it involved recess duty or lunch duty. I am allllways cold, so I’d walk around with that and it warmed me right up! But two years of that everyday for lunch, and I can’t even look at the stuff now. :-)

    enjoy your day girl!

When I was dieting for my wedding last year, I ate a very plain tuna sandwich pretty much everyday as part of my lunch. Yeah, can’t eat those anymore and I still have like 10 cans of tuna in the cupboard.

i ate pepperidge farm cinnamon swirl toast every day for breakfast throughout high school, and i am still sick of it years later. but somehow i’ve been eating oatmeal for 4 years, and i still love it!

I haven’t commented on your blog lately, but I’m still reading. I thought of you this morning when saw in the HyVee ad that Honeycrisps are $1.38. We have been eating a ton of apples, homemade applesauce, apple butter, apple pumpkin muffins/bread, apple cake, but nothing beats a crisp juicy apple, especially a Honeycrisp! While I was teaching everyday lunch included yogurt and a banana, which are foods are still enjoy and eat most days, but not like I used to. My freezers are well stocked, it makes meal planning and cooking with two young kids much easier.

i have eaten many food to death! especially in the dining hall at college! once i found some healthy things i liked, i would eat them every day — granny smith apples, sweet potatoes, and turkey sandwich. sometimes, i would eat a turkey sandwich for lunch AND dinner! after i stopped eating in the dining hall, i vowed to make meals other than turkey sandwiches!

I had something similar for breakfast this morning since I’m not feeling so hot and oatmeal did not sound appealing. I put a sliced banana on a whole wheat tortilla with some TJ’s crunchy raw almond butter. Yummy and now I’m not hungry any more.

I can’t eat mac and cheese, especially velveeta or Lipton noodles/rice and sauce. They were staples of my college years and when I first moved out on my own. Quick and easy and now I just can’t because of the sodium and they taste so fake.

How in the world do you slice your apples so well! No matter how hard I try I just cannot get them to look like yours! :)

A few years ago my husband and I would eat Mrs. T’s perogies at least twice a week. I’m still taking a break from them!

How do you keep the apples from browning when you slice them in the early morning? Or does the browning not bother you?

I thought I did good picking up some Honeycrisps at my little hometown grocery store for $1.89/lb, until I read the comments. Really wish Hyvee was closer to me than 1.5 hrs!!

I can’t really think of any food I’ve burnt myself out on, but when I was in labor with my first baby, I ate a big plate of spaghetti and totally regretted later in the delivery room (I will spare you the details). I couldn’t eat spaghetti for a looooooonnnnng time after that. And I knew better than to eat a big meal while in labor with my second!

In middle school it was tuna sandwiches and in high school it was Brown Cow’s Cream Top coffee yogurt. I like them both now but I couldn’t even look at them for a long time…

I got so sick of sandwiches made on store-bought bread when I was in elementary school that I can’t even stand the smell of the preservatives in bread anymore! Thankfully the Hy-Vee bakery has plenty of good deals on bakery fresh sliced bread or baguettes. They usually keep well for most of the week, and if what is left starts to dry out, I just use it for French toast, garlic bread, or pop it in the freezer to be later made into bread pudding! :)

If you check out “my eats” on my blog you will see I eat a lot of the same thing ALL THE TIME, pretty much until it runs out or I get sick of it! See I am on a very strict budget and also want to eat healthy despite that so I end up eating a lot of the same things a lot…….like oatmeal for breakfast most of the timeor tuna/peanut butter on wheat for lunch…….though I try to switch it up on the weekends at the least!!! And, I pretty much have set dinner menu too for me and my family……like Taco Monday’s, Pork Wednesday’s & Pizza Friday’s. =)

There is a Dole bag salad mix that comes with an apple cider vinegarette type dressing. I love it! I’m trying to find something similar to it in a bottle and have come up with nothing! Anyone have any ideas?

I used to eat a bowl of instant oatmeal every morning for breakfast, but I’m sooo tired of it now. Now I mix it up with egg whites or stir in a tablespoon of peanut butter with the oatmeal. That livens it up.

When I was teaching, with a 20 min. lunch, for 2 yrs. I ate a fat-free bologna sandwich with fat-free cheese on light wheat bread and a diet soda every day! With all the artificial ingredients in those lunches, I should be well preserved and not wrinkle at all for the rest of my life!!!

I do not think I’ve eaten anything to death as a teen/adult. However, when I was a baby/toddler I was a “failure to thrive” due to medical issues, so my mom really wore me out on the few foods I would eat. Get this: Carnation sweetened condensed milk (lots of calories and fat for a skinny baby, I guess). Yeah, my mom fed me that. But the thing she absolutely wore me out on was banana pudding: vanilla wafers, pudding, bananas! I was not able to eat bananas all throughout my school years!

I like a particular brand of smoked herring that I discovered in Big Lots – if you have one near you, check it out, they get all kinds of unusual foreign foods at closeout prices. Anyway, I bought a few cans of this German herring and it was so good I devoured them for lunch on crackers in a couple days and went back for more. I ended up cleaning them out of fifteen cans of the stuff. After another week or so the love for it was waning and my workmates were complaining that I was stinking up the breakroom. I still have five cans left, but the stuff has a forever shelf-life so I’m not too worried. Plus, if it tastes funny, I’ll just give it to my cats.

You might try some canned fish for excellent protein and omega 3s. Served on wheat crackers, it’s a pretty nutritious lunch, but you may have to eat it outside if you get complaints!
