Road Trip Essentials

24

Good morning everyone!

It is bright dark and early and I’m off to Iowa City to tailgate before the Iowa Hawkeye football game!

Today should be a great day for several reasons:

  • Iowa is defending an undefeated 9-0 season
  • Warm temps are supposed to prevail
  • I’m meeting several girlfriends up in Iowa City
  • We’re tailgating with my parents and their friends (remember last time? Crazy bunch! Oh sad, I still had my long hair then…)
  • It’s college football – ’nuff said!

It’s too early to eat, but I’m packing a Carrot Cake CLIF Bar to nibble on in the car. It’ll be the perfect base for the Bloody Mary that I plan on drinking when I get to the tailgate. ;)

Water is also packed…

My girlfriends and I don’t have tickets to the game so after the tailgate we’ll be heading to a bar to watch. WISH US LUCK! (Both the team and my friends and me – it’s an 11am game and we’ve got alllll day in Iowa City!) 8O

First stop = gas station for coffee. Then it’s Iowa City or Bust!

What are your road trip essentials?

Mine are water, reading material and possibly some Apple-O’s. Plus, Ben makes so much of fun of me and thinks they are so nasty but…Corn Nuts. I know! I love them though – it’s the crunch thing!

I was just trying to explain Corn Nuts to some Zambians this past week…including touting them as the perfect road trip food! Sadly, my husband also finds them vile. What are they thinking?!? The salt, the crunch, the roasty flavor, mmmmmmmm.

corn nuts are one of my cousins favorite things in the world. i agree the “crunch” is what does it for me! :)

On road trips I pack 2 sigg bottles of water, a Clif Z bar and usually and apple. Longer trips involve more snacks but this is normal for my regular trips.

Have fun! I miss tailgating. One of the few things I miss about college is football. Especially since I went to Nebraska and they get into it!

I always need at least to have 3 bars for a road trip, all different flavors for any mood that might strike

When I’m starting a road trip, I almost always stop off on the Mass. turnpike to get a Polar sparkling water and a pack of gum. Favorite car noshes from home include trail mix, fresh fruit, and granola bars.

So disappointed with Iowa’s loss today! We were on such a roll. I hope you had fun with your friends anyway.

Can’t believe they lost! Even though I’m suppose to hate the Hawks, it was cool to see a Midwest school go undefeated for so long! At least it wasn’t as bad as the Cyclone loss against OSU. :( GRR.

P.S. Corn nuts are gross in hindsight. But at the time, they always seem so delish. Why do I always waste calories on foods I only kinda like?!

Sounds like fun! I’m trying to change/break my road trip essential. It was Reeses Peanut Butter Cups but I’m trying to opt for something a little less fattening these days. I’ll make it Coca Cola Zero until I can figure out what food I can munch on! XD
