4 Generation Baby Shower

Good afternoon everyone!

IGE has been MIA – it’s not often that you get four generations of my family all together at one time!

Last night Ben and I spent the evening over at my parent’s house hanging out with my Grandma and Aunt – then today all the ladies threw my nephew Finn a baby shower!

The spread was absolutely perfect. Not too big, not too small – and just the right amount of savory and sweet goodies. :)

IMG_4070

The star of the spread was, of course, Pumpkin Spice Whoopie Pies!

IMG_4007

These were a serious hit you guys. The recipe is so easy and the taste is out of this world – all the guests raved!

IMG_4005

I love this cupcake tier that my Grandma gave Ben and I for our wedding. It’s handmade from the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH and I use it for all special occasions. :)

IMG_4038

Today we layered the top and bottom tiers with Cucumber Finger Sandwiches.

IMG_4036

That’s Tomato Basil Bread spread with Savory Cream Cheese (softened cream cheese with a squeeze of lemon and minced red onion) and Cucumber Slices.

IMG_4037

Cut into quarters for the perfect, 3-bite sandwich.

IMG_4035

The middle tier held those $1,000,000 Double-Delight Peanut Butter Cookies!

IMG_4009

Man I wish I would have thought of this recipe myself! Those peanut butter and powdered sugar centers are soooo smooth and creamy!

IMG_4011

For some substance, we served some fresh, Egg White Quiche’s from Costco.

IMG_4020

Yep – EGG WHITE Quiche! Isn’t that great?!

IMG_4023 IMG_4022

The pack came with two types of quiche – Aged Cheddar & Broccoli and Spinach Artichoke.

IMG_4049

These were super savory, special and really convenient. It would have cost us three times as much to make them ourselves and they tasted just as fresh!

IMG_4052 IMG_4050

For some freshness, you can never go wrong with Fruit Salad. Fresh pineapple, honeydew melon and red grapes.

IMG_4028

Served with Strawberry Dip. Mix one container of strawberry yogurt with one carton of cool whip for light-as-air, melt-in-your-mouth, YUMMINESS!

IMG_4045

I seriously could eat this stuff by the spoonful. Instead, I ate it by the pineapple-full. ;) Seriously…make this dip!

IMG_4092

We had a couple of baskets full of baby gear that we incorporated into a game. Our guests were able to look through these baskets as they came in the door and got their food, then during the actual shower, they had to try and remember what was in the baskets. It was hard!

IMG_4013

At the end, my sister-in-law got to take everything in the baskets home.

IMG_4015

Like a little bonus gift!

IMG_4016

We placed bowls of trail mix around the room for people to snack on while we opened gifts. I had about 26 handfuls… 8O

IMG_4047

Finn was the perfect gentleman throughout the entire shower, except for a brief meltdown when he was transferred over to Great Grandma. ;)

IMG_4087

This was the perfect baby shower – just the right amount of people, great food and great company. Plus, I could just stare at baby clothes all day – they’re sooo cute!

IMG_4082

I’m so glad my Grandma was able to make it into town from Ohio. She’s 90, quick as a whip and seriously, just the best. :)

IMG_4099

Plus she rocks snake-skinned blouses – wheee!

IMG_4103

Well, the guests have left, the house is cleaned up and Ben just arrived – Iowa vs Ohio State is on in T-minus 40 minutes. Our starring quarterback is out for the season and the Ohio State stadium is notoriously wretched for visiting teams. Pray for us!!!

Be back later tonight!!!

Guys get left out of showers – too bad because the food looks great! Too bad you could not combine a football party with the shower….although I am sure the ladies would not have enjoyed that twist! The fellas too?!
