Ohhh Hawkeyes…you put up a good fight.
After the baby shower, we all hunkered down to watch our boys take on Ohio State in the football game that would determine which of the two teams would be heading to the 2010 Rose Bowl.
There were ups!
There were downs
There was a freshman quarterback who almost took us all the way there. Alas, it just wasn’t in the cards this year. Ohio State beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 27-24 in overtime. Iowa put up an incredible fight in what was supposed to be a complete blow out – and we couldn’t be prouder. GO HAWKS!
Among the shouting, praying and general pleading – there was Chili!
My Dad’s homemade chili, to be exact! He’s a "throw everything but the kitchen sink in the pot" kind of chili maker – and it was gooooood. Two cups worth good!
My Mom made some cornbread for a sidekick…something that I wish we could have blocked during overtime at the Iowa game…but I digress.
I also had some leftover fruit from the baby shower…
A couple more spoonfuls of that dip might have made their way into my bowl after this picture.
Ok, they did. This dip is like cotton candy!
The University of Miami (Ben’s team) didn’t fare so well either…
Oy vey! He’s currently "cooling off" outside for a couple of minutes.
Do you get this worked up about any sports teams?
The rest of the evening may involve some sulking and me going back home at some point – I’ve been at my parent’s house since 8:15 this morning!
See you in the morning – we’ve got another very special family day tomorrow!

Haha, I’ve never gotten worked up really on a sports team. If they win, yay! If not, there’s always another game or season on the horizon
I’ll get excited if it’s a big game, but I rarely even watch regular season games. My hubby is a different story…he’s a lot more like Ben.
Aww, sorry your team lost! The chili and cornbread look like great game food, though. My immediate fam doesnt get worked up about sports teams, but my grandparents and uncle’s fam do!
ahh! i hate that iowa lost! i’m from michigan, and i have lost hope for my wolverines…but i hate ohio state! so, natuarally i would have loved for iowa to win
oh well, you guys had a great year! food looks deliciouss, by the way
I do over KU basketball. I yell, throw things and go into a sad place when they lose lol
Aww bummer! We got good news that IA State is bowl eligible since my brother’s best (or one of them) friends plays for them we are beyond ecstatic and hope they get in!
Sorry your team lost – I like when anyone beats the Buckeyes. I do get pretty worked up over Florida football. However, once the game is over I’m able to let it go. The chili looked fantastic. Have a great Sunday, Amy
It was a sad day…but they played well and we’re shaping up to have a great team next year! I like Hawkeye football, but nothing like my husband does.
The outcome of the game can dictate our entire weekend! I feel your pain! Do you have your cornbread recipe listed anywhere? It looks like a delicious Sunday Treat.
Ohio State Alumni here, so my family watched the game and screamed, yelled, and prayed our way through it as well. My husband said it was by far the best game of the season because it was so exciting to watch, you right, the outcome meant so much to both teams.
,
Looks like you had an awesome weekend with your family!
My husband gets VERY worked up over football. it’s hilarious to watch!
Wow! There are lots of Buckeye haters out there!! Living in Ohio, it’s pretty much mandatory to be a Buckeye fan, so I gotta say it!!
O-H-I-O!! Go Bucks!!
Do I get this worked up over Iowa football? Yes, yes I do, LoL. While the Hawks were undefeated, for a good nine weeks, I dreamt of upcoming games–WHAT?? I couldn’t EAT until they won. So, it was almost a relief when we lost one, haha.
I stopped watching the game when it the score was 10 to 10.
I hate when Ohio State plays crappy. I guess I’m wayyyyyy to serious!!!
