Yesterday afternoon I took a quick trip over to QuikTrip and as I was heading out of the parking lot, I spied an evil little sign out of the corner of my eye…
Life’s Too Short for Oatmeal?! The nerve! You know I love me a good sticky bun – but for Heaven’s sake, why’d they have to go and pick on oatmeal?
I adore oatmeal in all forms. Baked, on the stovetop, in cookies, in breakfast cookies, in yogurt and smoothies…the list goes on and on really!

What’s not to love though? Oatmeal helps lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. Oatmeal is inexpensive and easy to cook. It’s an all-natural, one ingredient food and it’s friggin’ delicious.
To prove my point, and stick it to QuikTrip, this morning I made one my best bowls of oatmeal yet…Pumpkin Butter & Banana Oatmeal!
Ummm, yes. That’s:
- 1/2 cup each old fashioned oats, skim milk & water
- 1 banana (1/2 cooked in with oats, 1/2 sliced on top)
- Drizzle – drizzle – of pumpkin butter
- Chopped walnuts
Can you say eye candy?! The sweet drizzle of spicy, aromatic pumpkin butter took this bowl of oatmeal from good to decadent.
I literally had to force myself to slow down and take smaller bites, because I was gobbling it all up!!
Chewy & thick oats, sweet & creamy banana, crunchy & earthy walnuts…and pumpkin butter. ‘Nuff said.
I WILL BE REPEATING THIS BOWL!
Pick another breakfast item to make fun of QuikTrip – nothin’ to look at here!
To round out my day of deliciousness, I packed some Chicken Tortilla Crock Pot Soup and a Honeycrisp Apple for lunch.
Now THIS is a soup that gets better the next day, for sure!
Doesn’t my apple look very serious against this black background? Ohhh winter lighting…you are the bane of my existence…
Goodness, I could go crawl back into bed right now! I am so content, full and warm after that bowl of oatmeal. I’ll take it over a sticky bun any day of the week!!
Off to the dermotologist…fun times.
Happy Tuesday!

I love it with some pb, banana and brown sugar! They should put up another sign that says ‘cut your life short by eating this sticky bun.’
How can they hate on oatmeal like that? It’s crazy. I was going to make banana pumpkin walnut oats the other day! But my pumpkin had gone bad
. I’m definitely making them when I go home next week – with a stop at TJ’s for pumpkin butter before!
Wooooaaaahhh, that sign does NOT know who it’s messing with! I can’t believe they did that. Especially with all that research out there saying oatmeals such a heart-healthy breakfast, therefore it could potentially help you live longer. Jessica’s right–those sticky buns are just gonna kill you quicker! I love pumpkin oats with pb, or apple oats
This post seriously cracked me up. You can’t hate on oatmeal until you try it the right way, like your breakfast!
My favorite way would be with pb, banana and chocolate chips. Can’t go wrong.
My favorite way is currently microwaved because that’s what I have access to. To each their own I guess, because I would rather have oatmeal than a fatty donut anyday.
Haha – the nerve of that QuikTrip sign! I love me some oats too.
My favorite: hot oats with almond milk, smashed banana, plain peanut butter, and raspberries. AMmmmazing
That totally bugs seeing as oatmeal is ten times better for you than a sticky bun.
Breakfast cookie oatmeal for me
Haters! I normally love QT, like alot, but not today. What the heck?!
I’m currently loving my oatmeal topped with pecan butter, bananas, and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Nom nom!
That looks like a deliciously rich bowl of oats!
I wasn’t always a huge fan of oatmeal, however ever since my weight loss and new “healthy” outlook on life I have become a HUGE FAN and eat it 2-4 times a week! It is great with fruit mixed in, which of course adds extra vitamins. GREAT POST! =)
So funny as there is a billboard by QuickTrip I pass on my way to work every morning that says the same thing. I could agree more I love oatmeal and your site actually got me hooked on trying it more often and with new combinations of flavors. Now I have oatmeal almost daily for breakfast.
I blame the pre-packaged oatmeal pouches for it being looked on badly by some people. Plus, the only reason your life would be” too short” would be from eating a cinnamon bun for breakfast every morning.
Seriously – oats can be spiced up in so many ways. I just don’t think people realize the varieties! I love pumpkin oats. But I also love peppermint cocoa oats!
Life is definitely not too short for oatmeal! Another enjoyable Oatmeal is my family’s cat — he’s such a cutie!
I love stove top whipped banana oats topped with lots of nut butter!! mmm nothing beats oat in the morning!
I would choose those oats over a sticky bun any day!
I love oats with banana, peanut butter and a few chocolate chips.
Mmm, your oats look great! I had oatmeal this morning with pear, brown sugar and peanut butter. Yum!

The nerve of that sign!! This may be one of the only times that I support graffiti — time to set everyone straight once and for all
Love pumpkin butter in oats, I actually made mine this morning with a mix of banana, pumpkin butter & cream cheese — it was heavenly, the cream cheese really does the trick to make it seem decadent!!! Got me hungry again haha….
I don’t like oats, but sticky buns are worse! JEEZ We should be encouraging healthy eating. Good job stickin it to em!
That sign is what is wrong with America.
On a lighter, happier note – your chicken tortilla soup looks so good I’m going to attempt to make it tomorrow! Just in time, too, since November has decided to be normal again (cold =().
BOO QuikTrip! I love oatmeal and I could eat it at every meal. Oats are so versatile. I love them sweet, savory and somewhere in between. I put oats in my baked goods, pancakes, burgers, as a topping…EVERYTHING! Great pics of your pumpkin butter & banana oatmeal; I was drooling! I love your blog BTW!

Question….do you all buy the quick cooking oats or the all natural normal oats from the bulk bins? I will be making my daughters cereal homemade when she starts eating solids and I need to be the organic oats, but not sure if I should get them from the bulk bins or elsewhere.
I am dying to make all her food and make it all organic for her.
