I Did the Damn Thing…

HALF DAY = DONE. It’s officially the weekend, and a beautiful one at the that! After 4 days of grey and rainy drizzle – the sun is shining and the skies are blue. :)

After I skedaddled out of work, I went to get my whip some new shoes. When I got to the tire place, they had accidentally sold the set they were going to put on my car to someone else, so I got a free upgrade. Boo yah!

While I waited, I browsed around some stores that were on the same shopping strip as the tire place. First stop was Michaels Crafts where I picked up some completely unnecessary adorable Christmas tree ramekins!

These are dishwasher and oven-safe…I’m seeing Christmas tree-shaped baked oatmeal in my future! I’m also seeing my camera’s reflection…hello! And dust…need to get on that. :)

Then I hopped over the the $1 Store to get some wrapping paper for Christmas gifts. The $1 store is where it’s at for stuff like this. I’d pay $3.50 for the same amount of paper at Target!

I picked up a penguin roll, because that’s Ben’s favorite, and another roll featuring a cutie patootie Santa. Aw!

On the way home…I did the damn thing. I still can’t believe it. I rented Twilight. 8O

Twilight

If you asked me two weeks ago what I thought about Twilight and all the craziness surrounding it, I would have scoffed and told you I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about.

Twilight

Then I saw the MTV special Twilight: Love Bites where they dissected the supposed real-life love affair between the two stars of the film – Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson.

Twilight

I know I’m too old to be into the gosspiy invasiveness…but I couldn’t help it – I was sucked in! So, I’m giving the Twilight movie a try and if I like it (which, lets be real, I probably will) I think I’m going to see New Moon in the theaters!!

Twilight

I wasn’t extremely hungry when I got home (thanks to those eggs!) but I reheated some of last night’s Balsamic & White Wine Roasted Vegetable Pasta for lunch anyways.

Ohhhh sooooo gooooood.

The roasted brussels sprouts were just as delicious today, warmed up, as they were last night! Is there a brussels sprouts association I could be the spokesperson for? Just saying…I’d do it. ;)

Yum, yum, yum. Check out the recipe for this dish if you haven’t yet!

Ok, I’m feeling very motivated to tackle that to-do list from this morning. I’m starting with my most hated item on the list: bathrooom duty. Hi-ho!

Absolutely! My girl friends and I got together last night to watch Twilight before we headed to the midnight opening of New Moon – it was great! Once you watch the movie, I highly suggest reading the books! They are really great, and totally addicting! It’s great lunch at work reading material. :)

  2. Whit says:

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE TWILIGHT! I just know it. I am a huge Twihard, but I am not going to the movie this weekend. Let the crowds die down, I say. The books are AWESOME, like 20x better than the movie. I highly suggest reading them first.

  3. brandi says:

I haven’t seen it, either, or read the books.

hope you get all your to-dos done!

  4. Beth says:

I’m like you-haven’t paid any attention to it and really don’t think I want to. I keep saying maybe one day I’ll read the books but I just am not interested. I’m looking forward to your movie critique.

  5. Sara says:

Great finds! I love that wrapping paper. You’re definately not too old to like Twilight. I’m not a TwiHard, but I guess I’m a Twilighter. I personally thought the first movie kinda sucked, but I’m looking forward to seeing New Moon tonight! The books are great…you should read them!

  6. rebecca says:

oh! if you’ve seen twilight and think that it is “ok” ..then new moon is definately a must-see as the special effects+acting is seriously SO much better than the first movie- i just saw it today and was quite impressed! i love brussels tooo so you’re not the only one! xxxx

  7. Catherine says:

I did the same thing! I couldn’t understand what the big deal was until my roommate told me I’d probably end up liking the movie. So I put it on my Netflix queue and what happens when I finally watched it last month. I loved it! Now I’m even more excited to see New Moon since I hear it’s better.

    Good luck with bathroom duty!

I went to the dollar store for the first time in FOREVER (because the one we have by my house is lame and the “dollarama” is the best which we rarely go to). Anyway, I ended up buying some sticker name tags for Christmas presents. I saw other (not so nice) one’s at the local drug store for $9.99!! I paid I think $3 for two 18 stickers on each page. It was nuts. I’m definitely going back to get some ribbon. I plan on wrapping my Christmas presents in brown paper, but decorate it with colorful ribbon or bows :)

  9. Joe says:

Twilight, schmilight. I’m just glad someone else feels the same way about Brussels sprouts. I get a lot of ‘eeeeewwwwws’ when I describe how delicious they can be.

  10. Melissa says:

I was so super resistant to Twilight (I’m a middle school Language Arts teacher & all the girls in my class were reading it), but I decided to give the series a shot & read all 4 books in about 2 weeks. While working. Um, yeah. TOTALLY sucked in! However, I did NOT like the first movie AT ALL!!! I guess what you imagine when you read it is just that much better, but I did hear that the new movie (my least fave of the books) is really good. Have fun with it, though! It’s a great guilty pleasure! Enjoy! :)

  11. Maura says:

I absolutely am and I love it! I can’t wait to see New Moon! Enjoy the movie but if you get the chance definitely read the books. Books are so much better (ie. Harry Potter anyone?) Okay, I’m going to go now before I reveal too many nerdy facets of my personality.

  12. NySoonerGirl says:

If you’re too old, then what’s my mother?! We’re going to see New Moon tonight after work! And I have to say, if you are going to buy into it (which I highly recommend obviously) definitely read the books. They’re far better than the movie!

  13. Cindee says:

Twilight is like a VERY bad after school special. I saw it in the theater and walked out about 20 minutes in. BLAH! Life is too short for bad movies.
On to brussel sprouts! Oh my HANNAH! I love that recipe and have been eating them non-stop. I need to join a support group! I even made my family eat them… YUM! Where have they been my whole life? Thanks for the delicious (and very low cal) dish.
I am training for my first 5k–you are an inspiration THANK YOU!

  14. Amanda says:

I had ZERO interest in the books or movie. I thought they were stupid and I just didnt get the hype. I also didnt get the fascination with Robert Pattison. Welllllllllllllllllllllllll a few months ago I read each book within 24 hours of starting them and I totally got it. I am proud to say I am a TWIHARD. The story is amazing IMO. I agree with others that say the books are 20x better then the movie.

  15. I don’t want to watch or read the Twilight books because they are so hyped. But then again that’s how I started reading Harry Potter. I might have to break down and get it from NetFlix.

  16. Pamela says:

I had never heard of the books or the movie until about a week before the first DVD was released. (I had seen the movie trailer at one point, had no interest in a movie about teenage vampires, and forgot all about it.)
Then I read the books – all four of them in 8 days (thought the 4th one was ridiculous) – and went up to Ames to see Twilight on the big screen on its last day at the 2nd-run theater!
If you can stomach lovesick teenagers, the books and movie(s) are SO addictive! The kids in Ankeny were in line at the theater at 6 p.m. last night, already.

  17. Katie says:

I just got the first book. We’ll see how I feel. I’ve heard it’s good though, but Robert kinda creeps me out in the movie! I love brussal sprouts and the dolla store is where it is at for holiday stuff. Cheap and cute.

  18. Melanie says:

I also had no interest in reading the books until my older sister (in her thirties) insisted that I borrow her copy! I’m not a fantasy fan, but neither is she, so I trusted her judgement that I would like them. Uh, yeah! Thank goodness I read them during break last year, or I wouldn’t have gotten any homework done! :) I like the movie, too – you just have to embrace your inner teenager. And, last night, I went to a 12:03 showing in Ames with a girlfriend! It was fun being part of the commotion and packed theaters, and we were surprised that most of the women there seemed to be our age or older! Enjoy! :)

  19. Julie says:

You MUST read the books!!!! I am on the third one right now and it’s amazing!!! Let us know how you like the movie? :)

  20. Tay says:

I totally saw those at Michael’s for a dollar each!! I wanted them, but wasn’t sure what to use them for. I think I might have to go back and get some for pretty pictures :-)

  21. Carrie says:

I’ve tried to read Twilight on about 3 seperate occassions because so many of my friends are hooked on it. I get about 6-10 pages in before I throw it down because it’s so terribly written.
