Good morning – happy humpday! Looking forward to any good weekend plans?
I have nadda on the horizon, and I am thrilled! Between Thanksgiving, shopping at the Mall of America, Finn’s baptism & baby shower and tailgating in Iowa City – I haven’t had a mellow weekend in over a month! I plan to fill it with finishing up some Christmas shopping, spending time with Ben and…getting new foundation…random, I know! Does anyone have a recommendation for a good brand that lasts the entire day? I feel like mine wipes off really easily. No bueno.
In other news, my Mom and I finally got back on our morning walk bandwagon! We haven’t gone for it least 2 weeks, between Thanskgiving and my more frequent morning workouts. It was doozalicious – 32 degrees! – but it least we got to see all the pretty Christmas lights that went up over the weekend.
I came home to some Raspberry Banana & Almond Overnight Oats for breakfast!
In the mix:
- Raspberry Vanilla Low-Fat Yogurt
- 1/3 cup old fashioned oats
- Banana
- Sprinkle of sliced almonds
Mix, let sit in the fridge overnight, pull out in the morning, CHOW!
I usually put in 1/4 cup of oats, and let me tell you – 1/3 cup makes this THICK! Not bad thick, just thick. I dug it.
Sooo, have you ever worn yourself out of eating a certain food? I think I might teetering on the edge of being over salads for lunch! I’m praying that I’m just not feeling this one today because I had a huge dinner salad on Monday. Salads are my lunchtime staple – I don’t want to get sick of them!
In today’s mix:
- Mixed Greens
- Baby Carrots
- Feta Cheese
- Pecans
Dressing = Sundried Tomato Vinaigrette with a splash of balsamic vinegar to stretch it out. Do you see the balsamic shaped dragon?!
Normally I sprinkle my salads with almonds, or perhaps the occasional walnut, but I have a ton of pecans leftover from the Caramel Pecan Pumpkin Pie I made for Thanksgiving, so I threw them on there!
Hopefully I’ll be feelin’ it come lunchtime!
I know I’ll be into this beautiful, sweet & crispy Honeycrisp apple. I am so sad to say it, but I’m going to have to ween myself back onto Braeburns after these babies stop showing up at the grocery store. Let’s face the facts – Braeburns just don’t come close to the ‘crisp!
Off to work I go! Don’t forget to enter up to 3 times for the Month of Holiday Giveaways: Popchip Giveaway! You have until 12:00pm central time on Friday to win a 24-mixed case of Popchips!
Check back this afternoon for another recipe from the Thanksgiving table!
See ya!

If you could live anywhere in the world, rent free, for one year – where would you live?
I’m going to have to pick three locations – it’s too hard to narrow it down to one!
- Tokyo, Japan. Everyone must visit here it least once in your life!
- Cardiff by the Sea, California. The cutest quintessential beach town you’ll ever see. The city was named after Cardiff, Wales – so all the street names are like Kensington Lane and Cambridge Avenue.
- New York, New York. ‘Nuff said!

I tend to get sick of sandwiches because I have them so often for lunch. If I could live anywhere in the world rent free I would pick…hmmm…this is hard….probably San Fran! Love it out there!
I’ve never worn foundation, but I do wear all MAC products. They have a really nice tinted moisturizer that may work!
I use Bare Minerals but Erin at Care To Eat raves about Makeup Forever HD from Sephora.
I think I would live in Florence, Italy. I visited once and fell in love….. heaven!
In the past i’ve used so many different foundations. I have scars on my face from acne i had a couple years ago so i have to wear it otherwise i look real splotchy. Here are a few that i recommend. 1- Neutrogena oil free liquid makeup(they also make mineral makeup too) 2- I’ve never tried this but i heard its amazing, is Bobbi Brown foundation, and if i’m correct i think there’s a sale right now but it might end today i’m not sure. and last but not least 3- HD Makeup Forever from Sephora. I currently use the Sephora Makeup Forever and it gives you such a flawless cover and for me it lasts all day!
I’m a makeup junky, so i hope this helps!!!
Firstly, I just have to say I love your blog!
1. Somewhere in Egypt. This would be my first pick, especially at the moment, because I am greatly interested in international law as well as learning about the role of women in Middle Eastern societies. Egypt has a really fascinating history.
2. Rome, Italy. In fact, this is the next place I am saving up to visit, hopefully in the next three years!
3. In India.
Its super cheap but i have sensitive pale skin and i love it. Rimmels flawless liquid 18 hr foundation.
Hmmm
I d love to live in the UK , Milan and maybe Africa
I recommend Rimmel foundation too! I just made the switch over from MAC cosmetics to Rimmel.
New York City, hands down!
1) Melbourne, Australia – Near the beach, great foodie place
I want to live here someday.
2) Vancouver, Canada – I love Canada, so clean
3) Spain
I got sick of ramen and kimchi during college. When I was broke that’s all I ate.
I agree. Give me fuju anyday – crisp & sweet!!
Oh it’d be awesome to live in NYC or in Paris or London. I’m sure it’s MAD expensive over there.
San Francisco or New York, because that is where my two favorite people live and I’d love to be closer to them.
For the foundation, I use Lorac (oil-free) which I bought at Sephora. I also make sure to set it with translucent powder. I didn’t believe them that it was necessary until I tried it and it definitely helps.
i love love love bare minerals…I really do not see myself going back to anything else! and sometimes I use Amazing Cosmetics concealer (great concealer from sephora) on spots i wanna have extra coverage on before i apply the bare minerals
I always eat something until I’m sick of it–case in point, tuna sandwiches. Even after a 5 month break, I still couldn’t choke one down.
As for the honeycrisp apples, I’m sad to see they have gone from being the size of my head, to the size of my tiny fist. Sad day.
As for rent free, I pick Paris. I love that city and I’m dying to go back. I also so want to go to Japan as well. It’s high up there on my list, along with Egypt and South Africa. Sydney, Austrailia would be pretty awesome, too. AAHH! So many places I want to go to!
I’m betting you are on salad overload from your dinner! I LOVE salads for lunch and never ever get sick of them, but I also never ever have salads for dinner?! Except the occasional taco/fajita salad, but that doesn’t really count as a salad IMO!
I use Bare Escentuals new Matte mineral foundation. It is THE BEST- does NOT rub off, covers me all day, does not lead to shine and I just love it! If you try it out, you have have have to get the starter kit that comes with “Mineral Veil.” The two powders go hand in hand.
San Francisco or New York. But I think it’s because those are the two most expensive cities in the nation, and I’d want to take advantage of the free rent.
I actually love Clinique foundation–the Superfit stuff. I use Clinique powder on top and the combination is perfect–stays on all day. It’s better than a lot of more expensive stuff I’ve tried!
Ooh, I would live in Dublin. Ireland is an amazing place, and Dublin is the perfect mix of trendy, fun, and traditional Irish. Love it!
Rome Italy for sure, I just love it there!
I have Bare Minerals and MAC and love them both! MAC gives me better coverage, but still feels light and doesn’t wipe off.
I would love to live in Greece or Italy or Ireland – all beautiful, and I could travel all over Europe while I was there
Definitely Tokyo, Japan. That is my top place to visit still.
Very rarely do I get sick of a certain food, but I do go through phases. I’ve been on a pumpkin butter phase for the past few months and though I’m not “sick” of it, I think it’s time for me to move on.
One year, rent free…I’d pick a house near the beach in Hawaii. I use Bare Minerals makeup and LOVE it! I started using it about 2 years ago and that’s all I wear now.
Laure Mercier makes an awesome tinted moisturizer! It’s pricey, but worth every penny!
If I could live anywhere rent free, it would be San Diego. I lived there for 6 years and loved it! I would live in Del Mar or La Jolla. Right on the beach!
I burn myself out on salads usually by the end of fall and then have a hankering for them early spring with a few occassional ones at restaurants. It is the coldness of the greens I think for me.
If I could live anywhere rent free for a year it could be a few places so I’ll pick three like you.
1. NYC just because it is NYC.
2. Sevilla, Spain…it is mi pais. I miss it so much.
3. Seattle, WA. I want to live in one of the healthiest cities and eat all the fabulous foods and use all the awesome parks for exercise and fun.
I use Channel foundation.. it is $55 and it lasts me all day and for a long time, but I don’t really wear it every day eitehr.
If I could anywhere in the world rent free it would be… ok I have two.. 1) lake como, italy and 2)Delft, The Netherlands
I also love Bare Minerals, using the matte now…works great! I would be hesitant to try anything else!
For foundation you should try NARS liquid foundation – I wear the sheer matte and it is amazing! It goes on and stays on and doesn’t look like you’ve painted your face. They also have a Sheer Glow version for people with drier skin. It’s a little more expensive than a drugstore brand obviously, but I really feel that in foundation you get what you pay for
New York City!
New York or London. Love both places so much!
I do over eat foods and get sick of them…but usually only for a few days
Hmm anywhere… San Diego, Monterosso Italy, Australia somewhere
I’ve officially worn myself out of green tea… does that count?
London, Manhattan, & San Diego. HANDS DOWN best cities I’ve ever been to.
Maybe someone mentioned this already, but tdhere’s a whole mess of Honey Crisp apples on sale at Target (West Glen) for 99 cents per pound (til Saturday I think). I picked up some celery for 25 cents, too. And a bag of cranberries for $1. Ifroze them and I’m going to put them in some pom martinis inspired by one of your previous posts. Love this blog.
I’m incredibly pale so my experience with foundation is limited. I currently use Makeup Forever HD and really like it. I have heard people rave about Revlon Colorstay.
If I could live anywhere in the world rent free for a year it would be Edinburgh, Scotland. I loved it there when I was on spring break.
Target has Honeycrisps for $0.99 a pound! I loaded up!
I love my Clinique foundation and powder. I might try something new from all of these comments, though! Sounds like the HD at Sephora is on my list.
I would live in NYC, Denver or Bahamas! My favorite places.
Definitely suggest Clinique Superfit foundation. I’ve tried them all and I always go back to this one. Light, airy, and wicks away perspiration – what more could a girl ask for?
Subiaco, Western Australia (where my daughter was born)
Pacific Grove, California (close to my hometown)
Pordenone, Italia (where my son was born)
1. Boston! (born and raised baby)
2. Charleston, SC (golf all year round? yes please!)
3. Paris, France (no explanation necessary)
It’s funny – I eat almost the exact same salad every single day for lunch and never get sick of them. I mix up a different kind of protein and some sort of topping (nuts, seeds, a different kind of cheese, etc.) and try to add whatever veggies are in season. But it’s always romaine lettuce base, egg whites, and olive oil/balsamic vinegar!
haha I totally saw the balsamic dragon! love it!
ohh 3 places to live
1-south beach, FL
2-tel aviv, Israel (dad is from there, been there 3 times love it!)
3- San diego, CA
I could never get sick of salads, I think bc each time I make one i put different veggies and toppings, one can taste totally different from the next!
Live anywhere rent-free for a year?
I can’t choose one either – so here are my three:
Connecticut/Boston in the fall – so I could enjoy the leaves
Australia & Ireland
OK – so I’m entering AGAIN! for the chance to try those AWESOME pop chips! Since I have 2 boys as well who eat me out of house and home after school and swim practice, I think this could be a great alternative to chips….you know the nasty kind! They would both love the bbq, but I think my favorite might be the sour cream and onion!
I lived in Japan for 3 months and it rocked! We were just a short train ride from Tokyo–fascinating place. I might suggest asian cabbage salad to off-set your boredom with salad. It’s my all time fave. Since you’re an Iowa girl pick up any church cookbook and you’ll find some awesome recipes for it. Those church cookbooks are a staple in my kitchen!
I use Bare Minerals Matte Foundation and mineral veil… the hydrating mineral veil and tinted. I have been using Bare Minerals for years and would not try anything else. It is good for your skin too! The new matte foundation really does keep shine away, which is a big deal for me. I’d suggest trying it for yourself. It’s awesome!
Wow, I could easily have a list of 20 (I’m an Iowa girl who doesn’t get out of state nearly enough!) but here’s three:
1. Italy
2. Colorado, preferably somewhere south of Denver, but within 60 miles of the city
3. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
Good luck with your foundation shopping; I have yet to find a favorite!
Hi!
I was just going to let you know that Target is running a 99 cent sale on their honeycrisps – get em before they are gone!
I’m getting over my salad kick too … sadly enough. I think a salad every single day for lunch for 2 months was a little too zealous
I use Clinique’s Even Better foundation. I like it, but I too am always experimenting. I have a gift card to sephora so I might try Bare Escentuals Matte Foundation in the future!
