The Great “Stay Home” Debate

44

Happy Thursday!

I hit the gym bright and early this morning and took my trusty, treadmill interval workout cheat sheet with me!

DSC_0049 (4)

This.was.a.doozy! I was SO thirsty (and kind of hungry) and had to take several 1 minute walking breaks to re-hydrate. Other than that, I pretty much followed this outline. Have you given this workout a try? What did you think?

In other news, there was a guy hacking his lungs out on the treadmill next to me the whole time I was working out! Has this ever happened to you? What’s your opinion on working out when you’re sick? I say stay home, please!

At any rate, I was ready to DEVOUR breakfast!! Fat Free Blueberry Cheesecake Yogurt, a Banana & Cashew Cookie Lara Bar.

DSC_0048 (2)

DSC_0051 (2)

This flavor of Lara Bar is one of my all-time faves. It tastes JUST like cashews…

DSC_0063 (2)

Maybe that’s because it’s one of only TWO ingredients in this bar! I challenge you to find another packaged product that has 2 ingredients. I feel so good eating Lara Bars. :)

DSC_0072 (2)

What would breakfast be without a little cheesecake?

DSC_0076 (2)

Looove, love, love this flavor. Do you like flavored yogurts? I find some brands to be a little too sweet, but the AE yogurt brand (it’s local!) really hits it out of the park. :)

DSC_0080 (2)

So last week I bought a whole loaf of Healthy Choice 7-Grain Breadat the grocery store, but Ben didn’t end up eating it (he doesn’t like breads that are “seedy”) Since I wasn’t able to eat an entire loaf in a week, I ended up storing what was left in the freezer. Bread stores really well in the freezer and when you want to have a slice or two, all you have to do is wrap them up in a paper towel and microwave for 20 seconds or so. Presto chango – good as new!!

DSC_0048 (4) DSC_0050 (4)

I nuked two slices for today’s lunch, and broke out the almond buttah…

DSC_0055 (4)

Which is nearing it’s end (sometimes my almond butter gets really thick and chunky near the bottom, so I just microwave it for 30 seconds to get it spreadable.)

DSC_0056 (4)

And made a good, old-fashioned Almond Butter Sandwich. Seriously – I heart this bread!! The “7 grain-ness” makes it really chewy and crunchy. I really appreciate that texture to jazz up otherwise plain bread!

DSC_0068 (2)

I paired my sandwich with a Honeycrisp Apple for a real, genuine, all-American meal. :)

DSC_0053 (2)

In other news, today is the last day to enter up to three times to win an entire case of Popchips in the Month of Holiday Giveaways! You have until tomorrow at 12pm central time to enter. Get your crunch on!!

~~~~~
It’s Three Question Thursday! I’ve already asked a couple questions in this post, so I’m recapping them here and adding one to boot. :)
1. What’s your opinion on working out when you’re sick?
2. Do you like flavored yogurt?
3. Do you cry at the movies?
My answers:
1. I say if you’re contagious, for Heaven’s sake, think of the people around you and stay home!
2. Yep! However – you have to be very careful with flavored yogurts. A certain popular brand of “healthy” Pumpkin Pie Yogurt has 20 GRAMS of sugar in it!! That’s 5 teaspoons of sugar!
3. I’ve gotten sappier with age. If it’s a tearjerker – I’m tearing up for sure. ;)
    1. I was a swimmer for maaany years, so working out when I was sick was not only expected, but it really helped clear me up (while gross, there was lots of chlorine in the pool!) but now, I do not enjoy running with a bad cold, makes me feel worse (and I hate those people that sneeze and sniffle next to me on a tmill)!
    2. I love flavored yogurt! Especially Peach and Strawberry greek yogurts!
    3. YES – I cry watching not only movies, but TV too.
    2. I don’t like flavored yogurt – but I like flavoring my own.
    3. I NEVER cry, and rarely cry at movies. If I cry it is a big deal. That said, I cried at the last 15 minutes of Marley and Me and Sat. :P
    1) depends what i’m sick with! if i’ve got anything stomach-related… no way! but if i have a cold (which i currently do!), maybe. sometimes it helps to get the junk out of your lungs. sometimes it doesn’t. if i’m contagious, i try to stay away.
    2) i do like it. i am a big fan of greek yogurt now, so ‘regular’ yogurt tends to taste a little too sweet. but i just like yogurt. not picky.
    3) not like a typical girl. i’ll get misty-eyed about certain scenes. greys anatomy always makes me cry though. haha!
    1. I workout with colds, but I workout at home. I have not been sick in a really long time (knocking on wood). I think the last time I was really down and out was durning my pregnancy 3 years ago. You have no immunity during pregnancy. I would never go to a gym while sick.
    2. Plain yogurt all the way. I add my own stuff: fruit, pumpkin butter, honey, chocolate, granola, cereal. It’s like chicken…you can dress it up any way you want.
    3. Cry it out…it’s good for the soul.
    2. My favorite yogurt is Yoplait Light – Creamy! MMMMM – tastes so good for only 100 calories!
    3. Yes, I cry at the movies – and my husband just smiles and laughs a little at me, but that’s alright! I love being sensitive in that way!
    There once was a guy on the bike next to me in my favorite spin class that coughed and coughed and coughed and then started sneezing into his towel. GROSS! I got up and changed bikes within about five minutes, which is no small task in a packed spin class. I had multiple people come up to me and tell me they would have done the same thing. I was completely grossed out……my other gym peeve is people who bathe themselves in cologne/perfume/aftershave before a workout. I’ve never understood that.
    1- If you are sick, you probably shouldn’t be working out. It can tear down the body more in certain illnesses.
    2- Love flavored yogurt! Couldn’t have it any other way.
    3- If its a touching movie, I’m sure I’ll cry! Haha…
    Are all Lara bars two ingredients? Or around that? Not a fan of cashews but if there are others that are good I’d be willing to try it!
    I completely agree with you that many brands of flavored yogurt contain WAY too much sugar. However, I’m not sure what is worse- eating the sugar or eating the artificial sweetner, sucralose, that YoLite contains. In my opinion, it’s best to stick with plain yogurt (especially protein-packed Greek!) and add fruit or cereal to flavor, thus avoiding the extra sugar and nasty artificial sweetners!
    Love the Lara bar…awesome in yogurt!
    1) If it’s a runny nose or slight cough (not a hacking cough!) then I’d workout. But def. not if I was hacking my lungs out like that dude. Otherwise I’d stay home :)
    2) Kind of– I like freezing it so it’s like a fake froyo. Other times, I like to flavor it myself. Usually with cocoa powder + stevia! I don’t eat the artificially sweetened ones, though.
    3) Only if I’m watching a movie by myself… or else I try like crazy to keep my poker face. Haha! Doesn’t always work, though ;)
    1. Stay home and sleep a lot when you’re sick! If you absoutely feel the need to work out, do a DVD workout at home or go for a walk if it’s nice outside.
    2. It takes more time, but I’m a bigger fan of making a parfait using plain yogurt, fruit and possibly a granola mix to sweeten it a little. I used to eat the flavored yogurts but I’m not a fan of artifical sweetners and corn syrup and you find that in a lot of the flavored yogurts.
    1. I say stay home and give your body a well deserved break :) I agree with Katie that if you absolutely have to work out, do a workout DVD.
    2. I’m at a crossroads with yogurt right now, ha. The artifical stuff I used to eat tastes so..well artifical and icky sweet. Right now I’m trying to adapt my taste buds to greek yogurt…i’m not a huge fan right tho. Did it take anyone else a long time to adapt to the greek stuff?
    3. Strangely enough before I had kids I never ever cried in movies. My husband used to joke that I was dead inside b/c it took a lot to make me cry. I don’t know what happened but after I was pregnant and had my sons, literally a cheesy hallmark commercial will choke me up. ha So I guess the answer is, yes. Yes I do cry in movies :)
