Blizzards Call for BLATS + Larabar Giveaway Winner!

24

We’re free! Ben has literally been shoveling his heart out all.day.long!!! We calculated that he was at it for a total of 6 hours today!

I was in a warmer place. Inside…on the sofa…wrapped in a blanket. Approximate location indicated by the red box below. ;) I would have helped but we only had one shovel…

He’s got to take his parent’s dog out one more time and then, I’m told, he’ll be changing into these sweats and watching basketball for the remainder of the evening. I say, he deserves it!!

DSC_0134

He also deserves one of his favorite dinners, which I gladly made, BLATS. Aka Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado & Tomato Sandwiches!

DSC_0010

Just as the name implies, we’ve got sliced avocados & roma tomatoes, fresh spring greens, sweet & smokey bacon…and cheese for good measure. :)

All piled high on some toasted, hearty, 7-Grain Bread.

Oh, and sliced diagonally of course! I think sandwiches taste better when they’re cut on the diagonal. What about you? Do you prefer your ‘wich cut straight across or diagonally?

DSC_0078

Give this kicked up BLT a try sometime! That creamy avocado is so cool, refreshing and makes the sandwich feel really “light”, if you will. :)

Dessert was this awesome Lite Fudge Bar from Hy-Vee. omg there was nothing light tasting about this! It was so chocolaty and creamy – like an old school Jello Pudding Pop – remember those??

Alllrighty – it’s that time! Larabar Variety Pack Giveaway winner time! Congrats to…

Meghan: Chocolate Coconut is my alltime FAVE! I think I would have to try pb&j first though because I cant seem to find it and I am anxious to try it. :)

Congratulations Meghan!! Email me your mailing address at iowagirleats@hotmail.com and we’ll get those out to you!

If you’ve never tried Larabars, I encourage you to pick one (or a couple!) up if you can. I promise you’ll love ‘em! Stay tuned for another great giveaway this Friday! :D

Well, it’s back to work tomorrow and I’m can’t say I’m too upset. Not being able to get out of the house today left me a little stir crazy and itching to get the body moving. I think an early a.m. workout might be in order!

Have a great evening!

Do you buy light/low fat frozen treats or go for the real stuff?

In general I’m not big on “light” or “fat free” items – I’d just prefer to eat less of the real thing. That said, I think a lot of light or reduced sugar ice creams taste just as good as their full fat counterparts!

I don’t like heavy, creamy ice cream, so I go for the low fat or skim milk versions usually.
If this makes any sense, I like Peanut butter sandwiches cut diagonally and meat cut horizontally, haha wow that sounds weird typing it out

I used to love Jello pudding pops. Do they still make those? I liked the swirl ones.

  4. Comment Callout

I almost always add avocado to my BLTs :) I usually buy low-fat treats, but occasionally I’ll splurge on the good stuff.

I usually go for the real stuff vs. light, but I definitely remember Jello pudding pops and loved them as a kid!! And I agree, everything tastes better when cut diagonally….my husband is like a child and HAS to have it cut diagonally hehe.

Hope the snow gives you a break after today!

I go for the real stuff… occasionally the light ;)

Good job Ben! I finally purchased a snowblower this year but shoveled for the last three years and saved a lot of money doing it manually. I thought I was the only one that made B.L.A.Ts! Ben has good taste. Stay safe!

  8. Comment Callout

I just posted about eating a B.L.A.S.T.! Bacon, lettuce, avocado, swiss and tomato. It was good but your BLATS look even better! :)

I love BLTs…the addition of avocado sounds amazing.

I really miss jello pudding pops – the chocolate-vanilla swirl were my favorite. Too bad we don’t have Hy-Vee out here!

Your are the greatest for making BLATS for your man!!! Those are the best combo sandwiches ever! I’m craving one now! And cutting sandwiches on the diagonal is an absolute must. The pointy corners are mmm mmm mmmm.
My favorite “light” ice cream is Edy’s no sugar added vanilla, but there is this frozen yogurt I buy at Whole Foods that is to die for. It’s naturally a little better than the rich counterpart, but mmmm it’s delish.

haha love the name BLATS….and in elementary school..i used to think kids were weird if their sandwiches were cut straight across.. needless to say i’m a diagonal kinda girl :)

Those BLATS look goooooood! Love a good BLT! ; )

Congrats to the winner! She must be a cool chick — she and I love the same flavor!

OOOO-FFF!! Ice cream on on a freezing ,snowing, blowing day? No Way! But some warm chocolate pudding would be delish!

Now that I make my own sandwiches, I rarely cut them… mainly because I always squish the whole thing and the bread gets flat. My Mom always used to cut on the diagonal and it was SO good. Love it. lol

  15. Comment Callout

Your sandwich looks so good! I would of never thought to do that, have to try it soon. I know the snow is a pain but I wish we had some here……..hard to get into the Holiday Season with 80 degrees here in Florida! =( I am from Colorado orginally, so I am not into a warm Christmas at all.

I usually go for the real stuff, it’s just more satisfying!

Oh, and yes, pudding pops were the best thing ever! Did you know they make a “new” pudding pop now? I don’t think they’re quite the same, but close! You can read more about it here:

Looks like a nice snow day. Nice looking sandwiches to go along with the day. I always had mac and cheese on snow days. As for light or low fat, I do, but only if a big difference in calories over the regular. Never fat free, they put too much sugar in for flavor or the same can be said on “sugar free” so people often don’t realize this adds back in extra calories they would assume were not in there. It all comes down to the food label and the portion.

Do I remember Jell-O pudding pops?! Ohh yea I do!!! :D

Wow! You are one lucky gal to have such a hard working man in the house! That looks like SO much work!

I just had the PBJ Lara for the first timme yesterday….fabulous!

  20. Comment Callout

Wow! I can’t imagine! Of course, I didn’t see snow until I was 18, and even then it was in Virginia, where school would shut down if there was only an inch on the ground!

Wow he shoveled that whole drive by hand? I am very impressed. I am in Council Bluffs and we had crazy snow here as well and luckily work was cancelled yesterday. Horrible weather but awesome excuse to all stay home. Always love your recipes.
