Make It Mini!

Good morning from the winter wonderland, aka Iowa!

DSC_0022

I woke up to the most gentle of falling snow, and instead of pouting, I made hot chocolate!

Apparently I hoard random packets of hot chocolate and tea…? I found this big bag in my cupboards earlier this week when I was searching for cupcake liners.

I rummaged around and found a no sugar added packet, mixed it with water, and topped with some of my very favorite things…

Mini marshmallows! Is there anything more heartwarming?

Served in my new Starbucks mug from Canada. Thanks again Becca!

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Take that, winter!DSC_0025

I paired my steaming mug of hot chocolate with two old friends. Raspberry preserves and almond butter

And smeared them on a toasted thin bun

First attempt. Toaster fail.

Ahh, there we go. :)

Another thing I love about these thin buns is that they stay nice and chewy even when toasted. You’d think they’d get super dry and hard since they’re so thin. But, nope, they’re all good!

Perfect way to start my Sunday a.m. :)

Ben and I are heading over to my parent’s house for our traditional Sunday afternoon lunch, then I’m making some dishes to take over to a friends’ house for a Super Bowl party. Are you ready for some football?!

What’s your favorite way to spend a cold, winter day?

  1. Exactly as you did this morning……..a hot cup of chocolate (or coffee) and something toasted a.k.a. something WARM to eat!!!

We get “cold” mornings here in Florida, today is one of them but no snow which I miss a lot at times but am very happy that Florida’s good season is coming soon. Which means temperatures in the 70′s with nice Sunny Days. We should have that for a few months before the BLISTERING SUMMER returns. =O

Enjoy your day, Spring is right around the corner!

That hot cocoa looks so good! Glad I still have half a bag of marshmallows sitting around from the Ambrosia (aka Snickers) salad I made last week. Cold snowy days immediately make me want to throw something on the stove that takes all day to cook. . .today I’m thinking Green Chile?
You do have to be careful with those Sandwich Thins in the toaster don’t you?

    Breakfast looks great! :)

Provided I have a free day, I like to spend a winter day at Barnes and Noble, snuggling up with a cup of cocoa or a mocha drink and doing a bit of reading.

I thought of you the other day when using my local Fargo (North Dakota) Starbucks mug. As a fellow collector, I’d be happy to send you a mug if you’d like!

  4. On a cold day I like the drink some hot tea… and bake of course!!

  5. Good call on the hot chocolate!! I have them at least twice a day when it’s cold, they’re sooo warming!
Does the snow ever leave Iowa!? It’s always snowing in your blog pics! And I thought the snow in England was bad..
Have a great time this afternoon :)

  6. Movie day with hot tea and my snuggie is the perfect way for a snowy day.

  7. Oh yum, hot chocolate!!! What a great way to spend the morning. I love sandwich thins too… they are so versatile!!

I like to spend a cold, snowy (which we don’t often have) day cuddled up with a book or watching a good movie :)

  8. Tay says:

YES I love the fact that deli thins stay moist and chewy! Sandwich thins seem to dry out. But not the deli thins – love them!!

  9. That’s really neat you do a traditional Sunday lunch. My family does Sunday dinner. No football in the plans for me today (homework). Enjoy your snow day : )

  10. Definitely on the couch with something warm!

  11. kate says:

i always burn my buns :(
have you been able to find sandwich thins at hyvee? i think my hyvee stopped carrying arnolds sandwich thins and is on the thin bun train!

  12. On cold winter’s days I go into baking mode. Today I’m making some oatmeal molasses bread and I think I’ll try my hand at homemade crackers. I also need to make some breakfast food like muffins or scones. If there isn’t something quick on hand the husband won’t bother to eat breakfast.

  13. Yum for hot chocolate! I rarely have the stuff in the cupboards, so it’s always a treat when I do have it. Maybe I’ll pick some up for the Family Day weekend here where I am – we might go skating or take the dogs out for a walk and hot chocolate is always a treat!

My favourite thing to do on a cold day is to curl up with a blanket, some tea, and a good book in front of the fireplace. The roaring fire always makes it feel better!
