2 Words: Waffle. Bar.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Our celebration last night was purrrfect! We decided to forego the movie for cocktail hour at Blue Moon Piano Bar!

Blue Moon is a dueling piano bar that has been around for a couple years now, but we’d never been.

There wasn’t a show going on while we were there, but it was cool just to hang out anyways!

My Valentine sported a nice red sweater for the occasion. What a sport!

Since it was happy hour, I took advantage of the specials and ordered a flavored martini.

The Melonball Martini to be exact!

I’m usually not a fan of flavored martinis because they taste so artificial and are packed with sugar. But this one had minimal ingredients and sounded really refreshing.

And it totally was! Sweet, but not too sweet, with that cool and unique melon flavor. I actually LOVED this martini!

After our drinks, we headed to dinner – which we were both SO excited about. Cafe Su!

Cafe Su is Asian bistro type restaurant that has been around for years and years. Here’s my review from the last time Ben and I went. Their decor is super funky, yet elegant, and they’ve got live entertainment on the weekends. I could sit there for hours!

The view out the window from my seat was so cozy…

The view right across the table wasn’t too bad either. ;)

The restaurant was super busy, so we chilled with some Singha beers while we waited for our food to come out. I just love Singha. It’s a beer from Thailand, super mild yet really flavorful. Goooood stuff. :)

Our food!

I ordered the Sesame Chicken with Broccoli. This sesame chicken wasn’t breaded (bonus!) but still had the faintly sweet signature sesame chicken flavor. Absolutely unbelievable. Ben had to take away my fork so I wouldn’t eat it all!

Ben ordered the Pad Thai Salad which is basically cooled Pad Thai served on top of some crispy greens and vegetables with a cold sesame vinaigrette. Fantastic!!!

Ugh I seriously love this place TO DEATH! We need to go way more often. Especially since they give you chocolate covered fortune cookies at the end! Sorry, can’t tell ya’ what mine said. ;)

This morning, everyone convened at my parent’s house for a special Valentine’s Day brunch!

How cute is my Mom?! She decked the whole place out in pretty Valentine’s Day decor. :D

Ummm, how GREAT is my Mom is the bigger question. She had an entire Waffle & French Toast Bar set up for us!!!!

Fresh, homemade waffles.

Light and fluffy French Toast.

And all the fresh toppings you could imagine! Grapes, Cinnamon Apples, Blueberries, Chocolate Chips, Strawberries, Kiwi, Walnuts…

and fresh Lemon Curd. This woman loves us for sure!

The topping choices were seriously overwhelming, so I cut my waffle into quarters so I could try a little of everything. :)

Quarter 1: Blueberries and maple syrup.

Quarter 2: Maple syrup and walnuts.

Quarters 3 & 4: Lemon curd and fresh fruit, kiwi and whip cream.

My Mom seriously outdid herself on this brunch. I had a whole other plate of waffles with some crispy, oven-baked bacon. Extra-ordinary, friends!

Well, I went grocery shopping this morning before brunch (local peeps: agave nectar and steel cut oats are on sale at the Mills Civic Hy-vee!) so I’m going to head into the kitchen to prep some dinners for this week! Love some good kitchen time. ;)

Happy Valentine’s Day from me to you!

Oh, yes, indeed! The whole day looked swell. And those waffles – wowzers! The only thing missing was vanilla ice cream. Yes, that’s my favorite topping. Especially sandwiched between 2 waffle quarters with some fruit, whipped cream, and a drizzle of syrup. Are your teeth hurting yet? Yum. Lovely pictures, too!
