HOLY SNOW!
The white stuff came down from dawn ’til dusk yesterday and if it wasn’t such a catastrophe, I could have really appreciated it. These were big, fat, beautiful flakes that made the whole city look like one big snow globe.
However, it totally messed things up. After a great workout last night, my commute took 4 times longer than usual. By the time I got home, Ben and I were both starving, so we picked up some good Chinese food and headed over to his parents house to snuggle by the fire and watch Juno. A bit of an unconventional movie choice to watch with your in-laws – but I think they really liked it!
This morning Ben began the process of digging us out.
Work it baby, work!
It least the animals are having a good time…!
Look at those snow hills! We’re on the verge of the 2nd snowiest winter in Iowa’s recorded history…that’s the bad news.
The really bad news is that we’re supposed to get 7 more inches tomorrow which might put us in first place! Nooo!!
At any rate – breakfast pretty much made up for it all, it was so darn tasty. I made a Blueberry Smoothie!
In the mix:
- 2 servings Nasoya Silken Style Tofu
- 1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 Tablespoon chia seeds
- 1/2 Tablespoon agave nectar
- 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
I blended that sucker up, poured into a big ol’ mug and stuck it into the freezer…then got my workout on! For today’s 20 minutes of movement (per my 40 day movement challenge) I popped Jillian into the DVD player,
and completed level one of the 30 Day Shred. I always forget how utterly torturous this DVD is! I worked up quite the sweat, which is even more impressive considering it was only 64 degrees in the house!
After I got all showered up, I retrieved my icy cold smoothie from the freezer and dove in. Bliss!
I’m kind of kicking myself – frozen blueberries were on sale for $1.88 a bag at the store last week and I only got 2 bags! This was before I knew the beauty of stewed blueberries and blueberry smoothies. Ah well!
Just a word to the wise – do not think about eating this smoothie before a big meeting, date or greeting anyone in the general public. You will have blueberries and chia seeds ALL up in your grill! Mmmm – it is totally worth it though because this smoothie is fantastic!
After I finish getting all the chia seeds out of my teeth (TMI?), I’m off to the grocery store. I’ve got some really great meals planned for next week – I can’t wait!
Have a great afternoon.
Oh! Ben and I are thinking about going out to dinner tonight, but we can’t decide – BBQ or Mexican? We have two awesome restaurants in mind so it’s making it very difficult to choose. We need your help!

BBQ!
I can’t believe you’re still getting snow; it’s bright and sunny here! And I’m a bit jealous–not going to lie
I’d say… BBQ!
I have the same problem with chia seeds and berries! I always need a *teeth check* before walking out in public.
The snow was pretty for a while but now it’s just out of control. SPRING PLEASE
I personally enjoy Mexican more but either are great!
DANG all that snow! its lke 70 degrees here!!!
i had mexican last night-tummy HATED me..granted, it wasnt healthy but oh well! haha
For dinner, I would say BBQ! I am rather weak when it comes to spicy food, and Mexican tends to be spicy a lot of the time. BBQ is also just better, in my opinion.
We had only a sprinkle earlier this morning of snow, but I know what you mean by not enjoying it. I live in Fargo, ND, so we’re in a big threat yet again this year of having flooding issues. I just hope it doesn’t keep snowing and rain a lot. Helping my parents move stuff up from the basement (just in case!) was not fun last year.
Also, I was wondering if it’s possible to purchase a Nasoya tofu press still? I haven’t been able to find it on their site, and finding a press in general is proving difficult. Any help would be appreciated.
I hope you and Ben enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I hope he doesn’t have to plow out more snow anytime soon.

I had BBQ last night and it hit the spot!!! Go for it
Well we are doing Mexican over here
Daaaaang that’s crazy amounts of snow! I am so over snow right now!
BBQ!
I have a question! I’ve ALWAYS wanted to try JM 30 day shred (a good torturous workout is exactly what I need!) unfortunately I live in an apartment on the top floor with someone underneath me. Do you think that dvd has too much moving or jumping or anything that would bug my neighbor below? Thank you so much!!
p.s.
BBQ!!
mm mm Mexican!! Dos Rios sounds fab right now!
BBQ and Mexican? I say if you have a good BBQ place in mind then go for it.
Mexican all the way!!
I am so sick of the snow too, we’ve never over 24″ or whatever we’ve gotten in VA so far… us southerners don’t know how to deal with it!
You should totally try level 2 or 3 on the jillian dvd, you seem to be in such good shape that i’m surprised you liked level 1? The other levels are my favorite… they are intense!
I grew up in Iowa and miss all my family up there but the snow? Not as much
My cousin has already had 10 days off of school this year due to the snow!
My vote goes to BBQ – enjoy dinner, whatever you choose!
Oh no to the snow! That means potential flooding come April =( I guess seeing that much snow always gets me worried – I was in the ’97 flood up in the Red River Valley, had to move, not fun.
On a lighter note, BBQ it up!
I know what you mean about the Jillian 30-day Shred. I have been on level 1 for 30 days now and it is still brutal. I think for me it will be a 300 day shred instead!!
We just had Mexican last night which was awesome, but I think you guys just had Chipotle last weekend so, my vote is BBQ for you guys tonight!
Have fun!!!!
BBQ!! I personally have seen a lot of Mexican on blogs recently, so some BBQ viewing would be awesome!
I love Juno too, it’s one of my favourite films :p and Jillian is one of my favourite workout DVDs – the day I did part II and III one aftr the other…oh I was stiff!
Oh, and I tried doing that chicken flour thing tonight (that you did the other night) but with altered seasonings – delicious! I so can’t wait to see more of your meals next week, you have such greatideas
LOVE Jillian’s 30 day Shred!!! One of my favorites, and never seems to get old!
I would say BBQ for supper? My husband LOVES BBQ & my sister lives down there and we are planning a weekend & could use some great BBQ. Have a great night whatever you choose!
Mm now I want a smoothie. And I’m the worst person to ask BBQ or Mexican- that’s a tough choice!! I love it all.
Mexican! I could go for a margarita right now.
I hear ya on the smoothie. I usually drink mine in the car on my way to the gym. Every day, I pray that no one comes up to talk to me.
I vote for Mexican–that way you can pretend you’re in a warmer climate for a little while.
I love how you drink your smoothie out of a Bud glass. Classic! I’d go for the Mexican. Any excuse for a marg.
Mexican sounds good. Whichever you choose, think about going before you’re too hungry…the State Wrestling Tournament often means restaurants are packed!
If La Hacienda is the Mexican choice, go there. It is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. I haven’t tried the new one on Ingersoll yet though.
Mexican! And I’m saying that cause it’s my favorite and I think it would warm you up, what with all the snow you’re getting.
Keep warm!
MEXICAN!!!!!!!
and how is the tofu in the smoothie? can you distinctly taste it? i’m thinking about giving that a shot! happy weekend
I love mexican and don’t really like BBQ so that’s my choice.
Yikes, you are getting pelted with snow this winter. I’m so over winter … it can just go away now. I’m such a Mexican Food fanatic so I’d say Mexican
.
I’d pick Mexican any day. Then again, I am Mexican! Can’t stay away from the homeland
Agreed: Juno is not exactly the kind of movie to watch with your in-laws! I also started laughing out loud when I saw your blueberry smoothie in a Budweiser mug..
I just wanted to give you a couple of tips on the smoothies. I LOVE my blueberry smoothies with OJ, strawberry yogurt (in place of silk) and a banana. You can’t even tell they are there. LOVE ‘EM!
Oh, and you will LOVE this one. We use straws to drink it through. Nothing in your grill this way.
Also, one last tip. BJ’s or Costco sells blueberries in big bags for a fraction of the price. We would get the 5 lb. bag of Wild Maine Blueberries. They are totally worth a long trip to the store. Oh, and the Blueberry Crisp recipe on the back is AMAZING!
Enjoy! =0)
you should surprise the hubby with a snowblower! poor guy, but thats what husbands are for, right?! we bought ours in the spring at 60% off!
I can’t believe how much snow you’re getting! We’re having a very mild winter right now … normally February is freezing, but it’s been close to zero degrees for a while now.
I’ve started to do the 30-Day Shred and I love it … I only do it 2-3 times a week (alternating with running) but it’s a great little workout! I think tomorrow I might head over to Level 2 just for fun (though, we’ll see if I’m laughing when I’m on the floor crying out, “No more!” to the TV. LOL!).
Your smoothie looks yummy! I never have silken tofu on hand, always the extra-firm stuff. But I’ll have to try this sometime. My husband is even liking tofu – I think tomorrow I’ll try your tofu sloppy joes for dinner!
K
Love the color of that smoothie, so pretty!!!
