A Better Bowl of Cereal

53

Good morning!

I’m kicking things off with some Cheerios. From a big box. A REALLY big box!

DSC_0026DSC_0027

Because two people need 2.5 lbs of Cheerios…clearly. ;) Costco rules for stuff like this though, because cereal doesn’t go stale all that quickly, and it’s such a bargain for how much you get!

DSC_0028

I’m actually taking my O’s to-go, so I poured some unsweetened vanilla almond breeze into a tupperware container to pour on later and packed a banana to slice in.

DSC_0021

Adding this banana is going to be hard, actually. I have a weird thing with not being able to eat them if they have spots. They make me gag for some reason! Usually they’re destined for the freezer at the mere hint of browning, but I decided to push past my issues this morning. :)

DSC_0020

This was the last of my almond milk too – I need to replenish ASAP! I’m completely an almond milk convert, by the way. I was never a big cow’s milk drinker to begin with, but stayed away from it even more so because it made me feel so yuck. Not almond milk though. It’s great!

DSC_0018

Oh, and the combo of dried cranberries, sliced almonds and Cheerios that I tried last weekend was so Heavenly, I had to recreate.

DSC_0017

You may be asking yourself – ‘isn’t it just easier to buy cereal that already has the nuts and fruits mixed in?’

DSC_0023

For me, it’s no pain at all because I always have almonds and dried fruit on hand for topping salads with. Plus, cereals that have added nuts and fruit are also usually sweetened with added sugar. Have you ever seen the ingredient list in raisin bran? The #4 & 5 ingredients are sugar and HFCS. No thanks! I’ll stick to my souped up, better bowl of Cheerios, thankyouverymuch. ;)

DSC_0025

I brought some Thai Tofu Pizza and mixed fruit for lunch today!

DSC_0001

To put me in the warm, tropical state-of-mind. 8)

DSC_0002

Ben wanted to inform his fellow tofu skeptics that it is delicious crumbled and on pizza. He should know – he scarfed half of it!

DSC_0006 DSC_0005

I literally cannot wait for 12:00 when I can dig in!!

DSC_0008

All the mango that wasn’t used on the pizza last night, is coming with me today.

DSC_0009

Don’t you love how luscious, smooth and exotic mango is? I could eat it for daaaaaays. Here’s how to easily cut it up. Or try it blended!

DSC_0011

I threw in a couple kiwis too. I peel mine – how about you? There’s something about the fuzz that makes me unable to eat the skin. It’s like licking cloth – can’t do it.

DSC_0012

In other news, second day soreness (which is always worst then next day soreness) has set in from the weight lifting class I took earlier this week. Ohhh, my inner thighs! Is your second day soreness worst than next day? Call me crazy, but I kind of like being sore. It feels like accomplishment!

In more exciting news,  the birds are chirping this morning!!!!! If that doesn’t bring a springmustsurelybeonitsway smile to your face, than I don’t know what will! :D

In fact, let’s have a Spring themed Three Question Thursday, shall we?!

1. They say April showers bring May flowers. What’s your favorite flower?

2. Do  you like said showers, and thunderstorms?

3. What’s your favorite Easter-themed candy?

My answers:

1. Peonies! The bouquets at my wedding were made up of all different shades of pink peonies and roses. Aren’t they beautiful?!

IMG_2940

2. I adore thunderstorms. There’s nothing better then sitting on the front porch, watching the rain in the spring and summer. Or waking up to a thunderstorm.

3. Egg shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, natch! The ratio of peanut butter to chocolate is like 4:1 – AMAZING!

Making your own cereal/granola is definitely the way to go. Bars, too! That way you can even pick what flavors you get

I love peonies, too! They were also my grandma’s favorite flower. :) I also like thunderstorms, and I loooooove Cadbury eggs. They are tempting me in the stores right now.

You have the best meals. I wish you could cook for me every day.

I like “just because” flowers. What is that you ask? Well, I have never recieved “just because” flowers. Instead they have always been “Im sorry” flowers, or ” get well soon” flowers, or better yet “Im-sorry-I-fucked-up-and-cheated-on-you-I’ll-never-do-it-again” flowers. These flowers can be anything (hell, give me a bouquet of parsley for all I care). “Just Because” flowers are the best Id say. But orange roses arent bad either ;)

I totally agree with the kiwi skin thing, I really don’t know how people eat it bc it totally gives me the heebie jeebies with its furriness haha. And isn’t funny how different people’s banana tastes are, I love them when they are overripe with brown spots. To each their own! Enjoy that deelish tropical lunch today :)

I’m definitely an Almond Milk convert! I’m also loving Soymilk!! I always peel my kiwis, I’m like you, something about the fuzzy skin seems gross to eat! Haha. I think 2nd day soreness is pretty bad but so is 1st day soreness for me! Today I am suffering from 1st day soreness, but kinda like it!

    1. I love Calla Lilies! That’s what I’m using for my wedding this summer:) I also really like orchids and daiseys.
    2. I like thunderstorms every now and then as long as tornadoes aren’t involved!
    3. Favorite Easter candy: Cadbury Creme Eggs! My brother and I always called them Bock Bock eggs because of the commercial! Haha

    1) Hydrangeas – love how fluffy they are! I also have a love for peonies, my mom has a bunch of huge peony bushes in our backyard. They smell so good!
    2) Thunderstorms are the BEST. I love sitting by a window or on a porch and watching the rain and lightning and listening to the thunder. BEST naptime weather too.
    3) I’m with you on the Reese’s eggs – they’re awesome! Also Cadbury caramel eggs.

have you tried hemp milk? It’s so much creamier and richer than almond milk, so it’s my fav non-cow milk.

I too love peonies, and hydrangea.

Cadburry’s mini eggs for me :)

    1. I am rather fond of the lily flower. I don’t really know why, but it’s always been my favorite.

    2. I am big on thunderstorms, or rain in general. I like when the lightening brightens up the sky for a brief moment, and then returns to darkness. I just love rain! I even like tornado weather, and the reason I can say that and not feel bad is because they never actually touch down in Fargo. (fingers crossed)

    3. Egg shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, all the way! I just had one the other day and realized how much I missed them. They are a weakness of mine, so I have to be careful around this time of year. The peanut butter/chocolate ratio is unbeatable, as you stated with the 4:1.

    Have a great day!

Your “homemade” cereal idea is great! It makes me sad how much sugar is in Raisan Bran, it used to be my favorite. I try to stay away from HFCS, but if I ever make a comment about it, people often pipe up that it’s “the same thing as sugar”. Obviously, all things should be had in moderation, but chemically altered things should really be avoided. I was just wondering what you say when someone defends HFCS or what your basic reasoning for avoiding it is? Thanks! :)

    2. I like rain showers, but not a big fan of storms. When I was 7, lightning struck my parent’s garage and it burned to the ground in a massive fire. It was pretty scary. So I always get nervous when it gets really bad outside.

Want to know something interesting about Raisin Bran and sugar (it was just on my exam, hehe!) One of the main reasons for added sugar is to coat the raisins. Water naturally wants to flow from areas of high concentration to low concentration. Raisins have high water content, while the flakes do not. If there was no sugar added, the water from the raisins would flow to the cereal until it reached equilibrium. This would lead to hard, dry raisins and soggy cereal. Yuck!

I don’t even like Raisin Bran, and like your cereal method a lot better (much healthier)! But I just thought that it was funny that I just learned that and you mentioned it. Really interesting :)
