Did anybody see Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty last night? I thought it was really good, actually!
She and her friends went to Thailand to see what was considered beautiful in that part of the world and the price women paid to embody that. In Thailand, that included things like layering brass rings around women’s necks to elongate them, and using skin bleach to become as pale as possible. They interviewed one woman who had a terrible reaction to a facial skin bleaching solution, which left her scarred and embarrassed. That was the “price” she paid for beauty. I was intrigued and I can’t wait to see where else they go!
There were a couple times where she was tip toeing around being offensive (getting the giggles after meditating with a monk for 40 minutes,) but that girl has some serious Southern charm and I thought she pulled it off. Ben, on the other hand, was highly annoyed.
In other news, I can’t stay away from Almond Butter & Jelly Oatmeal!
In the mix:
- 1/3 cup old fashioned oats
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 banana (1/2 sliced in while cooking, 1/2 sliced on top)
- 1/2 Tablespoon chia seeds
- cinnamon
- almond butter
- raspberry jelly
Next time I think I’m going to but some crushed peanuts on top! Oooo, you know what else would be really good? Almond butter and marshmallow whip – fluffernutter sandwich, anyone?!
Oh and, squeal, guess who’s nearing the end of her almond butter jar?! Oats in a jar, oats in a jar, oats in a jar… Can’t wait!
For lunch I’m packing some Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup and an apple.
Shredded chicken in this recipe is my favorite, I think. All I did was poach two frozen chicken breasts in some water for about 10 minutes and then shredded it up with my hands. Love that texture!
And the most bizarrely shaped apple ever. It’s a Fuji. I’ve been all over the apple kingdom recently!

Do you prefer to eat more during the day or at night?
I’m a big time grazer and nibbler at night, so I try and keep the calories smaller during the day, so I can eat more at night!

I’m the same as you- I nibble away when I’m on the computer and doing homework!
Why do men find J Simp annoying? I think it’s going to be a great series!
I love Jessica Simpson and I loved the show! I usually eat more during the day, but my biggest meal is probably dinner!
I like to eat all day every day…it’s somewhat of a problem really!

You got mail!!
I’m way too lazy to get up and grab snacks while i’m on my computer, so i tend to not get up to munch…
I’d rather pack in most of my calories during the day. I stop eating 3 hours before bedtime and my last “snack” of the night is yogurt with toast….exciting
Hooray for fuji apples, my fave kind!! I had one just this morning
I’m a big eater in the day I think, but I always have an evening snack too so I don’t get too skinny with all my running
I taped the show and will likely watch it today when the hubby isn’t home, it would just annoy him to. In fact he made a comment that I even taped it
. I would say I graze throughout the day. I eat three meals and typically a couple of snacks depending on how big my meals were. Also, we love love love New Orleans, have a blast, we are going back in May and I know I am so excited for the culture and great eats!
Mmm, those oats look delicious…I just tried PB&J oats for the first time last week and they were awesome! And I’m totally with you, I’m a night grazer so I eat less during the day knowing I’ll most like be snacking it up at night.
Have a great day!
That is smart to keep your calories light during the day if you are a night snacker.
I didn’t see Jessica’s show but I saw her interviewed on Oprah and they showed clips of it.
Your oatmeal looks delicious as usual. I have been doing baked steel cut oats lately….yum!
I saw the show and it was really eye opening!! That poor lady with the damaged skin… it was awful!!!
OMG…fluffernutter oats sound amazingly good!
I tend to eat more at night too
And i’m so jealous of your almost empty jar.. I’ve been wanting OIAJ like MAD!
Have fun in New Orleans!!!! I hope you noticed that I added a comment to your New Orleans post a week or two ago, which was way after the date of the post. I live in New Orleans, so if you have any questions let me know. I’ll be emailing you some guest post recipes to.
And about eating during the day or at night… I graze all the time! From string cheese, to oranges, to grapes, carrots, nuts, etc. it seems like I’m always munching. I am pregnant though, so does that count as an excuse??? Even when I’m not pregnant I tend to eat small amounts, very often though.
I do the same thing! I am a big night snacker too….
If you’d like an easy already done up version of a meal here you go!

I’m a big night snacker too! Trying to work on that! Haha
I am a big mid day eater. I eat when I get home from work through about 8 then stop.
I’ll be sending you off a dish later
I’m a night eater. Something about being at home and just relaxing with some snacks, sounds good.
I recorded the Jessica Simpson show and plan to watch it sometime within the next couple days. I think it is a very interesting concept and am looking forward to see how she does with it.

Ugh. Forget about Jessica Simpson. Seriously???
I’m excited to see what you pick the guest post.
Have lots of fun in New Orleans! I’ve only been once but loved it…I’d love to go again! I recently discovered that a museum dedicated to Southern food exists and it’s in New Orleans! I think it’d be great if you & Ben went and reported back to us readers: http://www.southernfood.org/.
Ohhh….I’m going to have to decide what to submit!
Gosh Golly..I can eat any time of the day or night! What network was that Jessica show on? She is rather charming!
I am totally on board the the marshmallow fluff and PB oatmeal!! Holy hec that just sounds like an amazing ooey gooey creamy mess of deliciousness!!
def a night nibbler! i like enjoy things when i have some time to actually relax at night!
I love J.Simp too and thought the show was really good! Shredded chicken is definitely preferred in our house too in soups/enchiladas/bbq/etc.. I use 2 forks to shred it though and it’s super easy
I am definitely a morning/early afternoon eater… I eat most of my calories before dinner even rolls around and have a small dinner usually.
I’m a morning eater for sure! My appetite declines through the day, and I love it that way!
I’m the same way with eating less during the day. I swear more than 1/2 of my calories come in at night.
Oh, a fellow late-night eater! I always felt strange for eating such a lot at night (usually more than 1/2 of my daily calories) so it’s good to know I’m not the only one!
Hm, I wonder if my “recipes” would be interesting enough (they’re usually very (!) simple on weekdays).
