Malk lives!

In case you are a newer reader, every morning in the Spring, Summer and Fall my Mom and I, who lives about 5 blocks away, go on a 1.5 mile walk in the morning! Mom walk = malk. :) It rejuvenates us both mentally and physically, and I look forward to them every morning. What a way to start your day, right? :D

Today’s walk was the very first of the season and was brilliant, I’m telling you! The birds were singing their little bird songs and boy was it warm. Even at 5:30am it was close to 70 degrees! It also whipped up a fierce hunger that I squashed with some Kashi Honey Almond Flax Cereal!

I received a sample of this stuff in the mail earlier this week, fell in love and bought a box the next day. Since then, I’ve, um, almost eaten the entire thing in four days…!

It’s great for a quick breakfast, or an evening snack when you need something to crunch on. The nutritional stats are good too, a lot of protein!

It is seriously delicious, to boot. I’m actually not a huge fan of the regular Kashi Go Lean Crunch, but the honey in this makes for some really big granola-like clusters that I adore, and the taste cannot be beat.

Beware – this is the crunchiest, loudest cereal I have ever eaten, so it’s not suitable for an office or classroom setting. Your co-workers & peers will be highly annoyed!  ;)

Paired with a banana, this makes for a great, on-the-go breakfast.

Here are some of my other Kashi brand product reviews:

TLC Chewy Trail Mix Bar

TLC Chewy Dark Chocolate Coconut Bar

TLC Chewy Pumpkin Pie Bar

Cinnamon Harvest Cereal

For lunch I packed a Raspberry Vanilla Yogurt and a Roasted Veggie & Tofu Salad!

I save my yogurt to eat around 2:30 – when the afternoon munchies hit the hardest.

But this baby will be out in full force come noon!

It’s got leftover roasted broccoli, squash and asparagus from last night’s dinner, plus some of that baked tofu that Ben has fallen hard for. I topped the whole thing off with some freshly sliced strawberries, because clearly I cannot have a salad without something sweet. :)

If you’ve never tried a salad with cold, roasted veggies – I highly recommend! I think they get even more intensely flavored as they sit in the fridge overnight. SUPER yum! Oh, and cold tofu is bomb as well. Make a big batch on Sunday night and add it to your salads during the week! :D

Soooo, I’ve been so busy with catching up since getting back from New Orleans, that I completely missed the biggest IGE milestone yet – my 1 year blogiversary!

I kicked this little blog off on March 31, 2009 with a welcome message and some Banana Bread Pancakes (which I seriously remember sitting down and eating, weird!) The past year has been so much fun and I truly enjoy hearing from each and every one of you. Every comment and email I get from you guys brings a smile to my face. Thank you for reading!

With that – TGIF – and have a wonderful day!!

  1. Happy blogiversary!!! I just got that cereal in the mail too– it’s SO good!! Honestly I don’t think I’ve had one of their cereals I didn’t like, but I’m a fan of GoLean & Honey Sunshine. And now the Crunch ;)

Happy Blogaversary! I got a Kashi sample the other day too – LOVE Kashi! Mine was for the Berry Crisp! Cereal. A totally new one for them. I mxed it with some plain yogurt – YUM it was DELISH! http://www.kashi.com/products/golean_cereal_crisp_toasted_berry_crumble

I think I randomly came across your blog about a month ago on someone else’s page, started reading, and I’ve been hooked ever since! Congrats on reaching the 1 year mark!!

I love Kashi Go Lean high protein, high fiber cereal. So yummy. I came across your blog from a comment you made on the self.com eatlikeme blog. I think I’ve been reading your blog for about ~6 months. I was hooked on the first read!

You’re vacay looked super fun. I’m glad you’re back :)

  5. Happy Blogiversary!! I’ve been reading for a while, I would say about 9 months or so and have no clue how I found you! Haha. I definitely look forward to reading your blog everyday! So many yummy eats!

Kashi cereal is one of my faves, especially the Go Lean Crunch Honey Flax! I definitely know what you mean about it being the loudest, crunchiest cereal!!

    Hi!
Lurker actually posting for once! haha.
Cereal = my one true love, esp. (or maybe except) that One Week a Month, where I want to devour the whole aisle and literally spend about 20 minutes every grocery run there, thinking “I WANT REESE’S PUFFS” obsessively to myself. hahaha.

I got a Kashi sample too! A chocolate coconut bar….haven’t tried it yet.

Your Malk sounds lovely! I need to start doing that again with my mom. Love it.

I don’t remember exactly how I found IGE, but i think it was through another blog somehow, either a blogroll or a comment….
Anyway, you are one of my favorites, you’re adorable and have lots of pictures! haha, I’m 5.

Happy Blogiversary! I actually just started one today– don’t look yet, it still sucks.
    I need practice. lol

  8. Aww…malks – that’s too cute. I wish I could do the same with my mama. I saw that cereal on another blog recently – now I want to try it twice as bad.

I can’t believe you’ve only been writing IGE for 1 year – what a success you have here.

*Have you ever written a post about your tips to creating a well-loved and successful blog?* What is your blog traffic like after 1 year? : )

  9. Rachel says:

I’m a recent reader–A friend of mine told me about your blog (she insists the two of you are the same person!), so I started reading too!
I was not lucky enough to receive a Kashi sample, but I LOVE their granola bars…Right now the Pumpkin Spice Flax is my favorite.

  10. That’s awesome about your walks in the morning with your mom. Quality time + exercise! I should start doing the same with my mom, she lives close by as well.

I got a different sample from Kashi! Now I’m a little bummed after reading your rave review.

I’ve been reading IGE for about 6 months? not entirely sure and honestly cannot remember how I found you but I’m glad I did!

  11. Holly says:

First of all, been reading for about a year now – found you through reading other healthy living blogs – not sure which one led me to you!
I love the Kashi golden sunshine cereal. Not sure why – I’m usually a sucker for the sweetest cereal I can find, and this is just minimally sweet. But so good!
I’m really commenting, though, to thank you for your balanced approach to living. You exercise and eat healthy, but you also enjoy life and show us it’s possible to go on vacation like you did, enjoy foods, and it’s OKAY. I’m so sick of reading blogs where all they focus on is running marathons and eating so perfectly and they make me feel so insecure just because I am normal! so thank you for your healthy and balanced approach to life!

  12. Rachel says:

Yay for the malks! I wish I could do that with my mom. I love early mornings in the spring/summer/fall. It is so relaxing and peaceful.
Congratulations on your blogaversary! I have been reading for about 11 months. I found you on another health blog (can’t remember which one) and was so excited to have a food blogger who lived (relatively) close to me. I really ,really enjoy your blog. Keep up the great work!
Oh, and my fav Kashi product is their frozen meals. I am not a big fan of their granola bars or cookies.

  13. Lena says:

glad you liked that it’s one of my fav! plus kashi U!

  14. I got the sample of that cereal too and LOVED it! Happy 1 year anniversary!

  15. Stormy says:

I LOVE Kashi Oatmeal Dark Chocolate cookies and Trail mix bars. I was on a kick for a while of mixing GoLean into my yogurt but I burnt out. I’ll have to try this new stuff!

I actually found your blog just a few months after you started (which I never realized until now) via a former colleague’s blog. You were listed as one of her favorites. Now, shhhh, don’t tell, but I don’t subscribe to hers anymore but I read every one of your posts and was actually at Easter talking with all of the family and was shocked at how many of us follow you! We were all gushing about our favorite recipes and how amazed we are that you take such amazing pictures of food – that is so hard to do!! That, and we were all supremely jealous of your panini press :)

Thanks for the constant inspiration and optimism – we all agreed that you brighten our day, as well as our dinner!
