Morning!
Kate Gosselin finally got kicked off Dancing with the Stars! I felt bad for her – she seemed genuinely upset – but she was just an awful dancer. I couldn’t watch her for many more episodes! I think Ethan or Nicole is going to win. What do you think?
For breakfast today, I made an old standby that always does the trick. Almond Butter & Jelly Toast.
I must give mad props to this EarthGrains 100% Whole Wheat Bread.
It’s got such a hearty, grainy texture – a bread you can really chew, you know? My almond butter sandwiches from yesterday left me SO full. Almost uncomfortably full! Viva whole wheat bread!
This morning I slathered one piece in Sugar-Free Raspberry Preserves,
and the other in my beloved Almond Butter. I managed to keep my knife from wandering back into the jar for an extra taste for the chef.
Sliced on the diagonal for maximum enjoyment!
I’m taking a Fuji with me to snack on later this morning.
For lunch I’m packing VEGGIES! Last night I finally ate the Edy’s Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream that Ben stashed for me in the freezer for our anniversary (omg, life changing, I think I may like it more than sweet & salty cluster!!)…along with some peanut M&Ms…and starbursts…and don’t forget the gummy bears I had at my parent’s house!
Needless to say, I was craving veggies today.
Yep, me and sugar have a love/hate relationship and once I start, I usually can’t stop! Luckily I’m able to come back to the center and start fresh with healthy fruits, veggies and real food that I also love.
In the mix:
- Mixed greens
- Cauliflower
- Cucumber
- Carrots
- Peanuts
- Dried cranberries
Much better!
Instead of satisfying my sweet tooth with candy this afternoon, I’ll be satisfying it with nature’s candy: no sugar-added dried apricots.
I freaking love dried apricots!
So I need to brag about Iowa for a second. Recently Forbes Magazine named Des Moines, IA the #1 Best Place for Business and Careers in the country – boo-yah! Low cost of living, an educated workforce and a favorable economic outlook helped us nab the top spot this year.
This got me thinking about my job and career. Yesterday we talked about ultimate dream homes, but tell me, what’s your ultimate dream job? Do you currently have it? Are you working towards obtaining it?
My ultimate dream job would either be a nature/tour guide at Yosemite National Park in California, Japanese historian, Geologist working in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, or a personal chef. Just call me the renaissance woman!

Realistically, my dream job is to be a successful school psychologist in the states or have my own cafe. UNREALISITICally, it’d be like, a world famous baker or editor of an amazing magazine, or just someone who grew $$$ for a living
I love the diagonal cut – no-one does that anymore!!
Can’t believe that Kate finally got kicked off!
My dream job is to do freelance. I don’t even know how to get started.
My dream job is to be a teacher with the class afloat program!
So what do you do as a career now?
I love my job but i think I would enjoy being a travel agent!
I’m the same way with sugar :S My dream job would be to have my own business preparing and delivering healthy meals for clients–kind of like a personal chef, only with healthy nutrient dense options. Maybe some day…
dream job: either a restaurant/bakery owner (i WILL do this one day), or working for TOMS shoes, the world health organization, or doctors without borders. i gotta save the world, girl! (one cupcake at a time…) oh and by the way, when i worked at a restaurant, i cut white toast on the diagonal and wheat down the middle =)
My dream job would be to either own my own bakery or be a product manager for a food company!
My dream job would be to either own my own bakery or be a product manager for a food company!
My dream job would be an Interior Designer-I just love to take a plain room and create something beautiful! Sewing and creating all day every day:)
My dream job would be a secret taste tester….visiting restaurants all over the world.
I have been at my dream job for 10 years now–stay at home mom! I have always wanted to do it and am so blessed to have had the opportunity. My youngest goes to Kindergarten in the fall and I don’t know what I’ll do with myself! I used to be a PE teacher in my “former life” and loved it. I taught elementary PE and those kids just love seeing you. It’s such a fun job that I’d go back in a heartbeat but our school’s budget cuts are barely allowing the current PE teacher to keep his job.
BTW the salmon looks delicious!
My dream job would be the director of an athletic academic success program. I believe in the balance of talent on and off the athletic field at all levels.
Go Des Moines! Love this town.
My dream job would be to have my own travel show/book/weblog/radioshow/ where I travel the world, eat the food and just take in the culture and then write about it for other people–kind of like Rick Steves… but cooler.
I love dried apricots! I can’t think of the last time I bough them… love that about blogs, always reminding me of what I wanna eat
. Dream job… that’s tough. I’d probably be some sort of doctor if money/time were no issues (and I figured it out sooner). Or a professional triathlete or something. PS- my uncle IS a geologist in Colorado! I’m not sure it’s his dream job though…
Oh I LOVE apricots!!!
My dream job would be to open my own bakery. I am kind of on the road to attain that!
My ultimate dream job would be to open a restaurant. I have plans to do it in the future actually
I have a few dream jobs, my realistic on is to be an elementary school teacher, which I am working on currently. I would also love to write a book, travel the world and do something with food.
Your dream job sounds awesome! Right now I just wish I had a job! I’m about to graduate from college in less than a month and I’m still hunting for that perfect career, I guess I’ll have to move to Iowa to find it…haha!
Have a great day!
Kate did seem upset. I felt bad for a split second too and then realized it was fair because she was a TERRIBLE dancer!
Those pieces of toast look SOOOOOOOO delish!
If money were no object, I would love to run my own bed & breakfast. I think it would be so rewarding and so much fun!
I never want to work again. I always say I will once my kids will leave the house but I just can’t see myself doing it. Love being a home maker. Although I guess working from home wouldn’t be so bad.
I wish the cost of living were cheap in Massachusetts
My dream job would be writing about healthy living and being a nutrition coach. I would love to help all people feel good about themselves!
That bread is the bomb! And your salad…no words. They always look so pretty!
I don’t know about dream jobs. I work in the non profit arts sector and I super love it with all my heart so I think that’s a good place to be! Dream jobs are fun to think about though!
definitely evan or nicole to win it all….i prefer nicole, but we’ll see. i also wish that for once someone would just ADMIT that having a dance background give them a leg up in this competition. they always say things like “i don’t have ballroom experience, so no”, or “people expect more from me so it is actually harder for me”. Come ON. that is like saying david beckham doesn’t have an advantage against me in a race. The dude RUNS for a living. Nicole DANCES for a living. Evan ICE DANCES for a living. it’s what they have trained their whole lives for and they are famous for it beacuse they are so good. i just wish someone would be honest for once and say “yes, it does give me an advantage, but it doesn’t automatically mean i will win”. i mean, it’s raelly not a coincidence that the majority of the winners have all had something to do with dance….ok, enough ranting
My dream job would be to become a Weight Watcher’s leader. To do that I have to lose all my weight first though. I’ve always felt like I would make a good one. I’ve lived it. I don’t care for the leaders who have lost like 15 pounds. I know that was hard for them and kudos to them, but most of the people they are “leading” have way more to lose than that. The leaders that are the most inspirational are the ones who have lost a lot more weight. They’ve been where I am if that makes sense. I’ve been successful before but have always put it back on. It’s one of the best programs out there because you eat real food. It simply teaches good eating habits, moderation and planning so you can have those special treats once in awhile. It works in the exercise aspect also. Great program. I feel like if I could ever become a leader it would make me more accountable to keep it off this time. That being said, I’m going back this Saturday to begin my weight loss journey once more. Wish me luck this time! Your website will be a huge encouragement along the way. By the way….do you still watch The Biggest Loser? I haven’t heard you mention it lately and I know it conflicts with DWTS. Just curious.
My dream job would be to listen to music demo tapes from song writers & decide who might like to record them. You know..call up Steven Tyler of Aerosmith & say, “Steve…got one I think you should listen to! I’ll send it right over!”. What fun! My other dream would be a marine biologist…but I don’t know how to swim & I get sea sick! That will never work out!
My dream job would be either to be a homicide detective, or a forensics expert. I don’t have the mindset for chemistry (so no forensics) and I’m terrified of guns (so no detecting!). I have a degree in Criminology, and a certificate in Paralegal studies, but right now, I’m a receptionist/admin assistant for the Trust Department of a regional SoDak bank. I like it, and at least for right now, I don’t have any plans to go anywhere else!
My ultimate dream job is to be a stay-at-home mom, and yes, I’m working on that… the bun is in the oven (13 weeks) and I plan on staying home once our little one arrives.
On a side note, you have no idea how many cravings/ needs your blog has inspired in me (being pregnant and all). There’s been several times when I saw a food on your blog, and then knew that I HAD to have it, and couldn’t get it out of my head until I did. So far it’s been a pulled BBQ sandwich, tater tots, and now dried apricots. I will be going to the grocery store on my lunch break today to get some apricots to keep on my desk! Good thing that you stick to mostly healthy foods, because I can’t have you inspiring me to NEED all kinds of junk food when I’m already gaining weight.
ahaha…i originally went to go to school to be a medical examiner-you know, like Dr G. i’m in reality a daycare teacher, and this whole time all i’ve really wanted to do, and am still working towards, is become an essayist/literary figure like hunter s. thompson. life is funny, isn’t?
My dream job would to be still in ministry but doing it on the mission field in a spanish speaking country. I love spanish and the cultures involved and would love to do that full time.
I love chewy bread, it definately works to fill me up. My dream job would be helping people achieve their health and fitness goals.
I love satisfying the sweet tooth with dried fruits.
I felt sorry for Kate too, but she did enough and the kids probably missed her as much as she missed them. She seems to be a stoic person and people misunderstand her. You gotta hand it to her.
I guess my dream job would have been a journalist, so I could travel and also have some glam too!
Or a high powered attorney, YEAH!!!!!
Too late for me, I will be an IS grunt for life!
Good thing I actually love Technology!
FINALLY!!!! I was waiting for her to get kicked off…I mean the gal cant dance!
dream job? personal training and nutrition consulting entrepenur…Im getting there!! I have teh B.S in exercise science, personal training degree and great job right now! just need my masters in nutrition!
My dream job…that’s a tougher question to answer than I thought. But to give it a go: a singer in a (paid!) choir, a wedding planner/consultant, a journalist for some place like the BBC or NPR that requires foreign travel, Martha Stewart – not sure what to call her job, or college administration.
Currently applying for jobs that fulfill the last – looking for Admissons positions at the liberal arts colleges in the area. We’ll see how it goes!
Also, rock on, Des Moines, for the Forbes Rating!!! Thanks for sharing that, as I never would have known otherwise, and I LOVE telling my husband how IA is better than MN.
My dream job is to become a dietician/cookbook author–like Ellie Krieger!
Dream job: no real idea, i think I could be happy doing a lot of things. but i recently made something up I would love to do (i think I made it up, anyway):
Working in a group, using psychology research and nutrition and fitness to solve psych and life problems to help people become happy and comfortable in their own skin. Or something. haha
Basically, something where I see a lot of people, work with an awesome team, learn a lot about what I’m interested in, and implementing that in a useful way. I wouldn’t say no to traveling some either!
God, I hope I can get a career that I love someday! I have no idea where to start though. I mean, after school.
Thanks for the question! <3
Love your site! I just found you off the Earthgrains facebook page, and I just want to say that we seem to eat such similar foods! It’s always wonderful to find others with like-minded food preferences in the blog world! Look forward to following you! Have a wonderful day!
FINALLY!!!! I was waiting for her to get kicked off…I mean the gal cant dance!
