What? You don’t ride your bike with rhubarb in the water bottle holder?
Last night, when I went to pick up this rhubarb from my parent’s house, my Mom had made a fresh Rhubarb Tart that I just had to have a piece of. Check this recipe out:
Rhubarb Tart
Ingredients:
2 beaten eggs
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
3 cups chopped rhubarb
1 frozen pie shell
2 beaten eggs
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
3 cups chopped rhubarb
1 frozen pie shell
Directions:
Whisk first three ingredients together until well blended. Add rhubarb and mix until combined. Pour into the pie shell and bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes or until set.
SO simple, yet SO delish! This was like something your Grandma would make for you. A very down-home, rustic kind of dessert. The best!
I keep this bike bag (that I made in 7th grade sewing class, whoop!) attached below my handle bars for holding my cell phone, money and other important items during bike rides. You can never be too prepared! The rhubarb wouldn’t fit – hence the water bottle holder storage.
This morning, after my Mom walk (new readers, my Mom and I walk every morning @ 5:30!) I headed to my yoga room to detox…with Detox Yoga #1 from Yogadownload.com! It was full of challenging twists and balance poses – I had to work! It felt really good as my spine twisted, lengthened and popped!
I’m still try to work on all the fresh fruit that made its way into my house this weekend, so for breakfast I made some Pineapple Banana Morning Oats.
Made the same way as overnight oats, except the morning of instead of the night before. While not as thick and chewy, it was still awesome!
In the mix:
- 1 Blueberry Fat-Free Yogurt
- 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 banana
- Pineapple
- Cascadian Farm Oats & Honey Granola
This granola (also free from MyBlogSpark) is extreemly calorie dense – 230 cals for 2/3 cup – so I only used a little. I actually like it though! There’s crispy rice cereal in the mix that gives this would-be ordinary granola, some extra crunch!
The combo of banana and pineapple made this breakfast seem like one I’d be enjoying on a tropical island somewhere… ah, a girl can dream.
I packed a mish mash of items for lunch today.
Up first, a big Chef Salad. In the mix:
- Mixed greens
- Carrots
- Broccoli
- Deli turkey
- Cheddar Cheese
I don’t like putting shedded cheese in things, because they shreds are so small I can’t usually taste them. Cutting up thick slices though, totally works.
I also packed some Cascadian Farm Fruitful O’s. (MyBlogSpark hooked a sista up!)
I think these are supposed to be the “healthy” version of Fruit Loops/Fruity Cheerios.
The nutritional stats are pretty similar to the Fruity Cheerios, from what I can remember.
At any rate, I thought they’d be a nice, crunchy, flavorful snack this afternoon!
Oh, and I can’t forget my old standby – a Pink Lady Apple!
I think I need a Starbucks today. The last time I went, they completely screwed up my order. Foam, when I asked for no foam. Plain, when I asked for sugar-free vanilla. I need my craving for a short, no-foam, skinny vanilla latte fixed stat!
Happy hump day!

Do you eat granola? Have you ever made your own? What are some of your favorite cereals?
Remember Cracklin’ Oat Bran?? I used to eat that like…crack…when I was little, but I think it came out that it’s full of saturated fat or something and not good for your heart. So, my Mom stopped buying it.

I prefer trail mix over granola. I like the fruits and nuts(and chocolate) mroe and that way I don’t have to worry about gluten
My new favorite cereal is GoLean Crisp!!
I make my own granola! It’s super easy and delicious and costs significantly less. My favorite cereal is Quaker Oat Squares – yum!
I’ve got to get some rhubarb this week! I see a strawberry rhubarb crisp in our future
Ugh, we used to eat Cracklin’ Oat Bran like crazy too! What was it about that cereal? Not a traditional sugary kids cereal, but my sisters and I loved it.
I love granola. And yes I make my own. The recipe I have came from a B&B somewhere in New England so it makes a ton of granola and just isn’t the same when cut in half. So when I make it I give away lots to family and friends.
We eat granola everyday in our house, I usually make a batch on Sundays to have during the week. Here is my recipe:

I love cereal and granola! I always make my own granola, but I also love everything from TJ’s!
I loveee granola but I’ve never made my own – I’ve no idea why, from what I gather off the blogosphere, it’s very simple and easy!?

I make my own granola so I can make it without oil, and without the kinds of sweeteners the commercial granolas contain (like fruit juice – which IMO does NOT belong in granola). Favorite cereal is plain old Cheerios, although I would find it very very hard to turn my back on a bowl of Reese’s Puffs!
I do eat granola. I have never made my own though.
I usually buy this stuff :

I have some rhubarb in my back yard, but I don’t much care for it unless it is drown in sugar to the point you can’t even tell it’s rhubarb! Ha! I am gonna try that simple recipe…and maybe add some oaty, brown sugary, crumbly topping…like apple crisp would have! That is if I can work up the courage to venture into the small patch…I saw Mr & Mrs Snake slither in there last summer! Yikes!! Do you suppose they are still in there? Ha! I used to LOVE Frosted Flakes as a kid…but now that I’m older they are so sugary they make my teeth hurt! Which is weird cuz I have very healthy teeth. Now I love Honey Bunches of Oats w/Almonds! YUM! I like to toss a little into my yogurt too.
IT IS?
Oh man – I love Cracklin’ Oat Bran!
I loved cracklin oat bran! My mom though it was a healthy alternative to the Fruit Loops we always begged for.
I love your ingenuity for the rhubarb carrying. I wish we rode more places. I’m thinking of suggesting it to Hunni soon.
I usually buy it, but when I’m home, my mom makes the best granola! So simple and wholesome tasting! Great pictures, girl! Have a great Tuesday!
I love cereal! My usual standby is Cherrios but I’ve also recently fallen in love with Kashi Strawberry Fields.
I’ve kind of stopped eating cereal lately. I’ve been on an oatmeal kick.
Oh man, I bought frozen rhubarb one time. I was going to eat it like a fruit….I mean, people eat this in PIES…it has to be sweet, right? Nooooo. It is pure grossness when eaten plain.
Hi Kristin! I just wanted to say that I started reading your blog a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoy it. I too am an Iowa Girl and it’s nice to hear from somebody else that understands windy days. I’ve been looking through your previous posts and I’m looking forward to trying some recipes. Anyways, I just cut up a bunch of rhubarb this weekend and plan on making a cake tonight. I’ve never made homemade granola but would like to try one of these days.
I’ve made my own muesli but not my own granola – and I just saw a heart-stoppingly good looking recipe! It might be on the cards for this weekend. It kind of depresses me thinking about granola too much though – I like to pretend it’s somewhat healthy and then when I see a recipe for some…well. That bubble is burst!
OMG when I was younger I thought Cracklin’ Oat Bran was the BEST cereal EVAR. Even now I still treat myself to that little blue, overpriced ($5!!) box of cinnamon crunchy goodness every now and then. Its awesome with creamy almond or hemp milk. It has saturated fat because it contains palm oil and shredded coconut, which are heart healthy saturated fats that you’ll find in Earth Balance and other vegan butters and margarines.
my mom has been on such a rhubarb kick lately!! she’s made 3 rhubarb desserts within the past week and a 1/2. my latest favorite was her strawberry rhubarb cobbler. amaze.
i also used to LOVE cracklin oat bran!! i never ate it as a cereal though – only snacks. and we always ate super healthy cereals (im talking original kashi before kashi was cool), so COB was a treat!!
I often make my own granola, so much cheaper than buying it. For cereal I used to love (and still do!) Kix, Life, Fruity Pebbles, my list could go on and on. Cereal is so darn good.
I LOVE pink lady apples! They are my favorite.
I just took my bike in to get the gears all checked out. Can’t wait to get it back and ride it to the local farmers markets!
I’m having a similar chef salad for lunch today too! I’ve made my own granola and I actually prefer homemade to store bought, just because you know what you’re putting in it. I loved Cracklin’ Oat Bran…do they still make it? My favorite cereals are Kashi’s Heart to Hear and GoLean.
I love making homemade granola to keep on hand for oatmeal toppings! Usually mine are filled with way more nuts than oats and I use fruit juice to sweeten it up.
I eat granola A LOT! And I love kid cereals… especially Lucky Charms!
I’m not big on cereal or granola but I do put some Nutty Nuggets (Hy-Vee… it’s similar to Grape Nuts) on my yogurt once in a while. You should tell us how to make granola
I just made some granola last night. So easy, so good!
I’m so terrified of granola, it is so good and so addicting but I find the calorie content of it so scary. Oats are always more favourable for this problem !
I LOOOVE Rhubarb Tart! My grandma uses to make it all the time, and gosh I miss it! I take it it’s rhubarb season?
I much rather trail mix over granola as well, but if I were to make my own it would be 75% dried fruit!
Yum I love granola! Especially on my yogurt, ice cream and cereal! I make my own most of the time, that way I can control what I put in it (no preservatives and whatnot).
I love granola in my froyo and morning yogurt. I’ve never made my own but if you made a batch, post the recipe, I’d love to try it! (even though I know it’s simple to make!) I usually go for TJ’s low fat blueberry granola. So yum!
Mhhhh that Rhubarb Tart sounds amazing!!!
YUM!
And your breakfast does too!!! Thanks for sharing!
My favorite cereal growing up were Honey Wheat Puffs (here in Switzerland they’re called SugarPuffs – a great name! ;D)!! I looooved them!! Especially on top of yogurt!! My favorite was a Kiwi/Banana flavored yogurt with the puffs! Lots and lots of them!
Kashi Go Lean Crunch w/ flax and almonds is my FAVORITE cereal, at least health wise. I’ll always be a sucker for Cinnamon toast crunch, Oreo cereal and Cap’n Crunch!!
And I make a batch of granola for my roommates and I every week! They’re all picky about toppings (I’d love to put nuts and dried fruit in there) so I just leave it plain – my favorite so far has been crunch pb granola!
Those oats look so good, but I’d be afraid the pineapple might clash with the banana, have you ever had a problem with that?
Rhubarb in the water bottle holder? Totally normal. For a healthy foodie, that is
I LOVE granola and I love to make my own! I posted a few of my faves here: http://cookbakenibble.com/2010/04/27/granola-girl-2/

Cracklin’ Oat Bran reminds me of my grandma, she used to eat it all the time. I love a bowl of Udi’s granola with almond milk – yum. I also have made my own before (it’s on my recipe page) but it’s been a while.
My favorite cerial is multigrain cheerios, just a cup with a half cup skim milk and a banana and I am good go go!
When I was a kid, I loved Captain Crunch, but for some reason it would tear up the roof of my mouth! ;-(
I love any lowfat granola that is on sale (usually store brand) and I only use 2 tablespoons to add to yogurt as it is quite high in calories. My daughter loves it in her yogurt as well.
Rubarb / Strawberry pie is my favorite!!!
Looking forward to your next post that will include some sort of rhubarb pie picture. Love love love your morning oatmeal pics. The sun hits it SO perfectly!
Age old blogger question: what kind of camera do you use?
I’ve never made my own granola and I never buy it actually. Like you said, it’s pretty calorie dense. I got the same package from BlogSpark too so I did try the Chocolate Granola. It is gooooood!!
I really like the fruitful o’s too. I did buy those before. Some of my fav snaking cereals are Cheerios (banana nut and chocolate).
OMG, I might need some Cracklin’ Oat Bran now. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve eaten it, maybe 20?
My favorite cold cereals are Grape Nuts, granola, and good ol’ Raisin Bran.
I’m a granola addict… in fact, when I go back to my college, the bakery/kitchen makes me my own bag (theirs is that good — and i worked for the college post-grad!) They did give me the recipe but it’s impossible to duplicate the chewy/clustery goodness.
I eat Greek yogurt/blueberries/granola at least 3 x a week!
