Throw the Rule Book Out the Window!


I was so naive.

Just two days ago I thought I was running in the hottest weather ever. I learned real quick that today I was running in the hottest weather ever! It was slap-in-the-face hot, and I sweated up a STORM on my run after work!

Thankfully, I had properly hydrated at work today and it actually wasn’t too bad. 3.75 mile run + .25 mile walk = 4 miles in 37 minutes. I’ll take it!

When I got home, I attempted the 20 minute Yoga For Strength #1 class from It was kind of slow…kind of boring…then Ben called…so I bailed after 15 minutes. You know how it goes. Anyways, I wanted to make sure I was showered and ready for DINNER!

Now, what does one do when one has a craving for a Chipotle Burrito Bowl, but doesn’t have the ingredients at home to to make the homemade chicken or tofu variety? One sends one’s fabulous husband out to pick up the real thing!!


One Chicken Burrito Bowl with cilantro-lime rice, black beans, seasoned chicken, pico de gallo and green tomatillo salsa.


Oh, and green Tabasco sauce! This stuff really makes the bowl, if you ask me.


Makes you sweat anyways! I may have been a little liberal with my dashes!


My bowl clocked in at 1 pound 4.9 ounces,


while Ben’s was a measly 1 pound 3.6 ounces. Pssht. Amateur.


Fresh, fast, filling. And yes, I ate the whole thing. :)


I love burrito bowls!


Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to bake something that’s most likely not dessert makeover approved. Sometimes you’ve got to throw the rule book out the window! :mrgreen:


What are your required taco/burrito condiments and fillings?

I do love a good guacamole, however I don’t get it in my burrito bowl from Chipot because by the time I mix everything together, the flavor gets kind of lost!

    i love chipotle!!! i always get the salad with extra veggies and extra guac. i love the dressing too – it’s so creamy and spicy! yum!

    i can’t get over this weather too – there’s been a heat wave in boston lately. i tried running and could barely do my usual 3mile loop without stopping

    I wish there were a Chipotle in my city! I love the veggie burrito bowl with black beans, fajita veggies, guac, lettuce, cheese and salsa. The guac is the best part for me. :)

    I adore guacamole, it’s my favourite thing to add to EVERYTHING!! I would keep it on the side with sour cream for dipping ;)

    Thanks to you, the burrito bowl has made it’s way onto my menu — in fact, we ate them tonight! Our only addition — homemade guac… Oh how I love guac!

  13. I had a salmon, wild rice, cheddar, salsa burrito the other day with guacamole on the side! But that’s much more exotic than I usually have. I agree with you on the guac, though…I’d rather eat it alongside. Have a great night!

    There needs to be salsa of some variety and there needs to be some spice! Other than that nothing is necessary per se but I love some cheese (duh), some lettuce for crunch and if it’s spicy then a dab of sour cream. We made burritos last night and they were the best ever! We used chicken thigh instead of breast and I have to say the flavour was so much better!

    Yay to the real deal chipotle!

    Thanks for posting all your recipes! I have been reading your blog for a few months now and love it. I read a bunch of blogs (bored at work ;-)!) but I find i can relate to yours best-you eat real food!! Just wanted to let you know I made your recipe for chocolate chip cookie pie last night and am bringing it to a Memorial Day Party tonight. cant wait to try it!!

    Just taco sauce & sour cream. I dearly LOVE taco sauce! Better than most salsa’s! Oddly enough, those little packets of sauce that Taco Belle hands out are wonderfull! I always try to score a handful of them! And of course the homemade sauce that Tasty Tacos makes is to die for! And lucky for me they sell it!

    I have to have guac, but you’re right, it does get lost if you mix it in. Therefore, I always ask for guac on the side on plop it on toward the side and take bites as I go. Also, do you ever get the peppers & onions (fajita veggies)? I always ask for extra because IMO their flavor make the dish!

    I love guacamole too, but honestly I am not a fan of Chipotle’s. They overpower it with onions and I barely taste the avacado. I wish they would offer plain avacado slices. In my bowl I usually get extra cilantro lime rice (LOVE IT), barbaccoa, black beans, sour cream, lettuce, and the red hot sauce. That stuff is so spicey that the cool sour cream helps to even it out!

    We have a Qdoba, not a Chipotle, and IMHO it’s just not the same. Then again, I’ve only had Chipotle once so what do I know? My must-haves are PLENTY of veggies, cooked and raw, with a little guac on top. Pickled jalapenos and/or green Tabasco make it sing :)

    I know I’m a little late on this post, but I have a question..

    do you carry water with you while you run? I always worry about getting dehydrated when running anything over a couple miles when it’s hot out. how do you handle this?

    p.s. your homemade chipotle burrito bowl is one of my absolute favorite dinners of all time! love it!
