A Case of Sugar Belly!

45

We finally made it to Tropical Sno!

IMG_9022

Ah yes, the famous, blue and white shack serving sugar coated snow, basically. ;)

IMG_9008

I used to come here almost every single day during the summer in high school. Once after the pool or beach (well, river beach) and once at night with “the gang.” What was your high school hang out spot?

IMG_9004

My favorite flavor used to be Tiger’s Blood (I know, weird) which is an uber-sweet concoction of strawberry and coconut. I saw that they’ve added mango to their menu since my days, so I got strawberry mango!

IMG_9005

Just like I remembered!

IMG_9009

HUGE, cold, icy and sweet.

IMG_9010

Ok, REALLY sweet.

IMG_9015

Ben and I both devoured ours…

IMG_9012

Then decided that it would be awhile before we could come back. Sugar belly!

IMG_9013

Regardless, it was a fun little summer date activity and fun to reminisce!

IMG_9018

In other news, guess what I woke up to this morning? Guess?! MORE RAIN!

DSC_0008

This has been the rainiest June I can remember, but honestly I can’t complain because 99% of the time it’s raining, I’m at work. It’s usually clear in the early morning when my Mom and I walk, and in the afternoons/evenings when I run.

I really feel bad for all those summertime, child-care providers! They’re busting out a lot of arts and crafts projects this summer, I’m assuming. ;)

I remember when I was a day camp counselor in Japan for a summer in college, one of the months we were there was during the rainy season. Every single day for that month, it would just POUR for like 3 hours, non-stop, which meant that we were utilizing the craft room…a lot. I was seriously scared my little 2nd graders were going to turn on me if I made them create another God’s eye from popsicle sticks and yarn… ;)

At any rate, before the showers came down, I managed to snap a pic of my breakfast outside – a Bagel Thin + Almond Butter!

DSC_0011

This basically used up the last of my crunchy roasted flaxseed almond butter jarwhich I may or may not be utilizing for another type of breakfast tomorrow. ;)

DSC_0006

I stand behind my review of these Bagel Thins. I wish the bottom half was a little thicker, but overall – real good!

DSC_0009

Due to Ben’s decision to opt for a meatball Subway sandwich for dinner last night, I get Grilled Asian Tofu leftovers for lunch! Wheee!

DSC_0001

I forgot to tell you that I added a couple drops of sesame oil and a couple shakes of sesame seeds on top of the dish.

DSC_0041

Sesame oil is one of my very favorite ingredients because a little goes a looooooong way. It’s such a deep and satisfying flavor. A little dab’ll do ya!

DSC_0043

I also packed a container of sweet, succulent cherries.

DSC_0008

All together now!

DSC_0002

In other news, I have a hilarious/exciting package to pick up today that I can’t wait to show you guys tomorrow. It’s…funny…!!!

On that note – it’s almost FRIDAY! TGIAF dance! What are you doing this weekend?

And on that note – it’s Three Question Thursday!

1. Did you go to summer camp as a kid?

2. Are you a procrastinator?

3. What’s your favorite ride at the amusement park?

My answers:

1. Heck yes! My favorite being horse camp when I was in 4th grade. Being the shortest girl in camp, I got the shortest horse in camp. Brownie was practically a pony, and we were like this.

2. THE WORST! However, I feel like I work best under pressure. :)

3. Bumper cars when I was little, roller coasters now!!

I always wanted to try tropical snow when I was in Ames, and actually didnt get around to until days before I moved away. but I KNEW I needed to try it before I left. I hate that I teased myself because now I just want it again all the time!
I went to summer camp since I was 10, then I was a counselor there for 3 years. I wish I could just never grow up and spend every summer there. To say it raised me would be a lie, that place was seriously home. I miss it every day!

    1. Did you go to summer camp as a kid?
Yes! I loved summer camp and would always cry at the end of the week. I still love the smell of bug spray. Not having summer camp is one of the draw backs of being an adult!
    2. Are you a procrastinator?
No. I was always the kid who was in bed early the night before a test because I’d been cramming for weeks.
    3. What’s your favorite ride at the amusement park?
I like rides that go in circles and make you feel weightless.

Oh man, this place at Nags Head had the BEST Tiger’s Blood!!! I think theirs was cherry, orange, and something else…my favorite!

    1. Yeah, church camp almost every summer!

    2. Definitely. Unless it’s something I really WANT to do; then I have no trouble working on it.

    3. Roller coasters!!! I love them. All of them.

    1. Heck yes! I had my first kiss at summer camp. I went to an all-girls summer camp (a la Parent Trap) in New Hampshire & there was an all-boys “brother camp” on a different lake near by. We used to have dances with the boys camp (when we were old enough) and met my first crush there! Ohhh, memories! Can I go back?? haha

    2. Sometimes. It depends on what the task is.

    3. Roller coasters! My fav is “The Hulk” at Universal Studios in Orlando!

    2. Don’t even remind me of that!!!! I’m the worst!! But like you wrote! I am really great under pressure!!! :D :D
    3. Bumper cars and roller coasters where always my favorite! Haven’t been in an amusement park in ages so I don’t know exactely! :/

    1. I did a few sporadic weeks at day camps growing up. Most of my summers were spent taking (and teaching) sailing lessons at the Bass River Yacht club and Tennis lessons down the street at the South Yarmouth Tennis Club.
    2. Nope, never really been one for procrastinating. I like to get my sh*t done.
    3. Rollercoasters!!

I did Camp A in college too, went to Texas, definitely not as exotic as your experience. I did save the majority of the stipend money and was able to get 12 semester hours of credit which let me graduate from University of Iowa a semester early. Totally worth it.

I miss sno cone stands! The only ones I know of in my area are sketchier than norm. there used to be a Rainbow sno when I was a kid, right on the main street in sioux city– loooooved that place!! Tiger Blood sounds really familiar :D

That tofu meal looks insane. I always feel uneasy buying tofu because I’m never sure who long it stays good or how to store it.

1- I used to go to bible camp but I never went to a fun camp for an interest I had! I’d just rather stay home and play with my sister at the pool, go to the sno cone stand and read!
2- Yes- I don’t know any other way to be!
3- I like the roller coasters that I have to be forced into- because it’s sooo scary and when I’m done I’m in love:D

This brought back memories–I used to always get the Ocean Pacific flavor! (Another weird name… Why not Pacific Ocean?!?!) :) Ours was on the square of our small town and my friends and I would ride our bikes to TS every day. I was really bad at riding one-handed, so it was always hard to ride home with a sno-cone in one hand and only one handlebar in the other! Haha.

    1. Yes, I went to a church camp (hated it) and a horse camp too! My horse was the BIGGEST HORSE at the camp–no clue how teeny tiny me ended up with it–named Sam, and I did NOT like Sam. It scared me to be like 10 feet off the ground! Sounds like your pony was better.

    2. I am a terrible procrastinator, which makes me a bad role model for my students!

    3. Hate roller coasters! I’m afraid of being that high and going so fast–maybe it’s leftover trauma from Sam?! … :)
