It’s been another beautiful day in the Midwest!
The Farmer’s Market was BUMPIN’…and HOT! So hot! Luckily these belly dancers performing at the market were wearing next to nothing and were able to stay cool.
Home-grown, baby!
Ohhh, anyways!
Today’s produce was bountiful and the samples plentiful. Our first stop was, and usually is, Great Harvest! You should have seen the line for their fresh cinnamon rolls. Down the street, I say!
I stuck with a sample of Dutch Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread- omg – chewy, sweet, soft, and cinnamony. One of the best things ever…
And Chocolate BATTER Bread!! J’adore!
I also HAD to make a stop at the nut butter stand. Their Honey Roasted is unforgettable…
Cheers!
We’re finally getting to a point in the summer where more than half of the produce I’m seeing at the stands is grown in Iowa. Love that!
Here’s my loot!
Some crunchy, fat snap peas,
a flawless, $.50 summer squash,
and some fresh chevre. I was hoping to get this company’s chive flavor today, as I had a sample of it a couple weeks ago and haven’t been able to get it out of my head.
Alas, the experience must have been similar for many others, because they were all out by the time I got there! I have a plan to jazz up this plain flavor though. Pumped!
After we got home I chose going for a glorious 4.5 mile walk on the trail near my house, over running errands. Errands can wait when the sky is clear, the weather is warm and the trail is calling your name!
Eats have been very sporadic and random today. They’ve included not one, but two cheese sticks (one mozzarella, one pepper jack!) and an apple and almond butter.
I haven’t had regular almond butter in MONTHS, since I was enjoying my crunchy roasted flaxseed almond butter. I forgot how creamy, smooth and luscious it is!
Add a crunchy, sweet Pink Lady Apple,
and you’ve got yourself a stellar snack, my friend.
Ben went golfing with a friend so I had quite possibly the most random, early dinner I’ve ever had…fresh cherries and cauliflower. I mean…??
Clearly I am due for a much needed trip to the grocery store…
Gotta stock up on more cherries, too. This was the last of my stash and they’re still on sale at the store for $2.99!
This evening I shall be enjoying (?) When in Rome. There was like 7 people in line behind me at the Red Box and I panicked. Before I knew it I was scurrying out the door with this movie and no recollection of how it happened.
I DO love Kristin Bell though, so it may not be too bad – plus it’s set in Rome which is where I’ll be heading in no time! Whee!
What are you up tonight?
What types of movies do you like?
I’m not much of a chick flick gal. I much prefer action or thriller/suspense type movies. I’m actually pondering seeing The A-Team again – it was so good!

The weather must have been grogorgeous down at the Farmers Market at least there were no Tornado Sirens goin off today! I also will be watchin When in Rome tonight along with Shutter Island
LOL i have to say I am glad you said the price of the cherries and that it was a deal. I cannot figure out whether produce prices are a deal for the life of me !
Embarrisngly enough, I once bought a bag of cherries that amounted to 17.50 CDN! Good cherries but jesus.
I’m envious of netflix and the Red Box. We have neither. Well we have one of those machine thingys but it looks very sketchy and its not Red Box.
1. Cooking. Relaxing. Tv watching /blog reading . Was contemplating a hike with puppy to see if I can find a Geocache that is right in front of me . I sware!
2. I like all kinds of movies, but I really really hate sci fi ( Chronicles of Riddick ) , hate movies like Blade ( thankfully i have seen ALL of them ugh) . I do not like these lethal weapon movies that seem to have a million sequals. Ive never seen a starwars.
I own Sweet November and the Lakehouse and adore them but was also a fan of Ghost World and The Company.
Mmm… lucky you and your chevre! I could eat it right out of the container… and I have! I got it a few weeks ago so I could make pasta like you posted on here awhile back. YUM.
Tonight we are heading to the mall for a bit, don’t know if we’ll even buy anything but the mall has A/C and the house does not (window unit in the bedroom!). We did salmon on the grill but to me the smoky grill taste killed the awesomeness that was my marinade. I also got fresh spinach at the farmer’s market today and paired it up with some local strawberries, some mandarin oranges, some almonds and some homemade orange poppy seed dressing I made. SOOOO good.
I like all kinds of movies, but usually watch comedies. Haven’t watched a movie in awhile. My sister is taking my niece to her first movie in a theater tonight, they are going to see the new Shrek movie. I wish I could be a fly on the wall for that one!
let us know what u think of when in rome… i thought it was kinda dumb..
Ha! Your night is almost EXACTLY like mine! I also rented When in Rome and I also picked up Leap Year. Bring on the cheesy romantic comedies. I’m looking forward to doing “nothing” tonight (besides watch movies) It’s been go go go for me all month. I’m tired!
Have a good night!
We have When in Rome from Netflix. We watched half of it last night and are going to finish it up tonight. It’s cute – not my my favorite movie or anything but it’s passable. Looking forward to another nice day tomorrow.
I would loooove to visit your farmer’s market…it looks huge! And all of those free samples sound delicious as well
I’m watching movies with my sister tonight…I’m such a homebody! I love staying in much more than going out. I’m so bad at being a college student, haha!
I like historical movies and GOOD/wacky comedies (basically Judd Apatow raunchy guy comedies). I’m all over Disney movies, too. And Hayao Miyazaki!
It was a great day in Iowa! Took the family on a 4.5 bike ride and walked the dog for 2 miles. Now were are relaxing after some pool time and dinner (grilled chicken and veggies). I love some chick movies, adventure movies, comedy movies. Watched Hungover last night again.
I am watching that tonight, too! By myself, though. My husband wanted nothing to do with this movie!
It’s the College World Series in Omaha!
PS I have heard that movie is not very good
Let us know what you think.
awww…I thought When In Rome was cute!
My dinner consisted of reduced fat triscuits and leftover sliced meat and cheese cubes from a party platter we had set up last night! I have been in a snacking mood today. I have never gone to a farmers market before, but I always want to after seeing your pictures! YUM! I know we have one here in Dallas, but I sure hope it is early to avoid some of that summer heat! Tonight we might go see the movie Killers with Ashton Kutcher. I am 100% a chick flick kind of girl haha No shame I tell ya. Comedies and action are a close second though. I have never been too good with the scary flicks!!
I am so jealous of your Farmer’s Market. The one in Fargo this afternoon had a stand of jam/salsa and two stands of vegetables, but most of the vegetables were gone. It was not hopping by any means. I’m hoping for a better show next weekend.
Have a great weekend! Cheers!
Gotta love the DM farmer’s market:)
We just had a scrumptous dinner of turkey brats on the grill and sweet potato fries…yum! Now off to read my book, while the hubs watches America’s Most Wanted…
If you love Kristen Bell have you seen her debut show “Veronica Mars”? If you haven’t you MUST watch it…she is fantastic. I warn you though, once you start it might consume your life until you get through the three amazing seasons!
Ah, I love farmers markets!
. The one here in the town I live isn’t open on Saturdays! Which is a bummer since I work during the week
.
Enjoy your movie! We’re watching a “Clint Eastwood” movie, while I blog! Hehe.
Farmer’s Market looks fun! I’m meeting all my peeps from high school in DM next weekend, and the FM is on our list!
That chocolate batter bread looks amazing!! aah! Love farmer’s markets and supporting local farmers/bakers/craftsmen!
Mostly I like movie’s from the 90′s, they’re so much better than the new movies!
I love the farmer’s market, currently extremely jealous of your goat cheese right now
I love action movies… but I also have a soft spot for chick flicks!
xo
Kris
Great minds think alike…I know about 5 people who watched that movie last night including me. I thought it was a cute movie! We also hit up the FM! The Iowa Fit Girls stand has some awesome homemade and natural granola bars and energy balls. YUM! Picked up what I needed to make your salsa recipe…turned out FAB, I must say! AND a fresh bunch of native Iowa flowers!
That apple cinnamon bread looks divine! Wish we had a farmer’s market like that around here.

[...] The walk was a hot and humid one, so I cooled off with a cold, liquid, green breakfast – a Green Monster! [...]
Lol, I do the same thing at the Red Box. It’s all ACK, what do I get, uh, hmm, ok, I think I’ve heard of this one, wait, what just happened?
