Well, the return of morning Mom walks was short lived…we were foiled by rain today! I’m hearing Thursday is supposed to be dry. Which might be the first dry day in…weeks?? Sheesh!
Making the best of the dreary view out my window, I made a cozy bowl of Almond Butter Banana Oats for breakfast!
In the mix:
- 1/3 cup each old fashioned oats, unsweetened vanilla almond breeze & water
- 1 banana (1/2 sliced in while cooking, 1/2 on top)
- cinnamon, vanilla
- almond buttahhhh
Mmm – I’ve been cooking my oats in water for awhile, but I definitely noticed the addition of the unsweetened vanilla almond breeze. It added just a hint of extra creamy sweetness.
Under a mountain of luscious almond butter. Perfection!!
I’ve got some leftover Shrimp Korma and bing cherries for lunch today.
Last night Ben proclaimed that reheated Indian dishes are never as good as the original, not knowing that I had packed the leftovers for lunch…
Oh well, I disagree. Indian food is good no matter what! Am I right, or am I right?!
You better believe I stocked up on some inexpensive berries (bing + cherries = berries) this weekend. I’m gettin’ ‘em while the gettin’s good!
I remember picking fresh cherries at my friends lake house in Michigan one year. One of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Produce is so incredible when it’s fresh off the vine/tree/bush!
Solid.
Well today I find out if these babies have been doing their job the past couple of months.
That’s right – I’m getting my iron levels re-checked today! Wish me luck!
Have a great Tuesday!

Is there a particular type of cuisine that you can’t/won’t eat?
Personally, I like it all. Indian, Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Caribbean, Spanish – ooo especially tapas!! I’d really like to try more African dishes too!

I usually like it all, though I don’t love Italian because I really don’t like tomato sauce!
I like it all
Especially sushi and French food.
You just reminded me that I have some cherries that I need to finish up! YUM!
I love all types of cuisine!! I could eat Mexican dishes every single day though!!
Good luck with your iron levels today! I hope they are exactly where they need to be!
Produce is ALWAYS better when it’s fresh off the vine/tree/bush!
We’ll see what’s in my future!
I like a lot of cuisines! But I’m all about Japan lately! And discovering the Indian!
I don’t see how you CAN’T have milk in your oats – it’s so bland without!
but I can’t say I’m a huge Indian/curry fan..it doesn’t float my boat much :s
I love loads of cuisines
I’m with Freya—I always use milk in my hot cereal or oatmeal. Makes it creamier and adds protein (which in turn increases satiety). Weirdly, I stay full longer if I pair cold cereal with plain, lowfat yogurt rather than milk.
Re: ethnic cuisines—I can’t think of any that I dislike, but there are plenty that I haven’t had nearly enough exposure to, such as Indian, Thai, Vietnamese … really most Asian cuisines besides Chinese and Japanese. I love, love, love sushi, though, as well as Mexican and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food.
Good luck with your iron levels! I’m dealing with similar issues myself; after ~35 vials of blood drawn for testing, plus a bone marrow biopsy, my doctor still doesn’t know why my levels are low.
I only had Indian food once but wasn’t a big fan. I’m weird about certain spices/herbs. I HATE rosemary, it taste like a pine tree to me. Not a big basil fan either. And don’t even get me started on cilantro… *GAG*
I did buy some unsweetened almond milk yesterday. I have only tried it as a drink and it needed a lil more sweetness for me, but I am going to try it with some cereal to see how I like it.
right now i’m into korean food but i love all cuisine except maybe for japanese raw tuna or something is it sushi or sashimi:)
i hate indian food! i know, everyone is going to come at me…but i just can’t seem to like it

I love ALL ethnic foods – but I have to say I could easily live off of Japanese!
I love all ethnic foods! So no, there isnt a type I wouldn’t eat. There may be certain dishes I wont try (intestines, feet, etc) but in general, I think ethnic foods are so dang good!
I have been staying away from Chinese. Too much sodium and msg for me. But I do love Japanese, Thai, yeah everything else. Mexican, recently loved Indian. I’ll try anything once.
Where did you find the chewable iron tablets? I’ve looked for them everywhere! I love all ethnic foods – there is no type of cuisine I’ve tried that I’ve disliked, so far!
i never ever eat indian. i just dont like the flavors! but that looks so good i might try it! i loveeeee everything else, especially thai, viet, japanese, italian, and mexican. my food experiences in africa were less than steller (especially in south africa). a lot of the region is influenced by the british, dutch, and indian, so there really isnt too much “AFRICAN.” if you find anything, let me know!
I love it all!! I’m a huge fan of middle eastern cuisine though…
I also want to try more African dishes! As you know from living here Minneapolis has the highest population of Somalis outside of Somalia and yet I have eaten close to zero food from that cuisine! Need to work on that!
There’s nothing I won’t try!
I love that bowl – it’s adorable
It seems like you guys are getting a lot of rain, I hope you have sunny skies soon!
I’ve loved most every cuisine that i’ve tried!! I loooove to try new things!
Um, it’s food, is it not? Then I love it all
I suppose if I had to pick a least favorite I’d pick the heavy English meat pies and general lack of color in a lot of Northern European food. I used to have low iron, but those levels have recently been up while my potassium’s been too low.
I actually think Indian food is better after it has been sitting. The flvaors get a chance to merry
I am not a big curry fan but I am sure that will change. I eventually like everything. So far, I still do not like and will not eat Uni though.
Hope your tests come back great!!!!
i LOVE adding USVAB to oats – i usually do 1/3 oats about 2/3 c. USVAB and then cook in the banana too. makes it sweet and creamy. delish!
i can’t eat sushi for some reason! everyone on blogs love it i feel so i’m an outsider
i guess a simple brown rice avocado roll is ok but i never ever crave sushi.
I just randomly came across your blog and I love it!!
1/2 of my family is from Burlington, Iowa – I absolutely LOVE that place!!!!!!
There isn’t any cuisine I won’t try. I love it all. I’m pretty adventurous. I’ve even eaten chocolate covered crickets.
ALL of them!! I especially love Mexican and Chinese, could eat one or the other everyday. Also Italian. And I grew up on Eastern European staples like halushki, halupki, pierogies, etc, so that’s my comfort food.
Mexican for sure! Love to try it all though.
My stomach is a black hole and my tastebuds do not discriminate…I like it all!! There’s so much I haven’t tried yet, though (like African!). My least favorite is “stereotypical” Italian…it’s so boring compared to everything else out there.
By stereotypical, I mean Olive Garden, chain Italian fare. Bleh.
Another reason to come to DC – we have lot’s of African restaurants (and pretty much every other world cuisine you can think of!).
I like it all! With as much as we eat out, we are constantly trying new cuisines and I have yet to go somewhere and not find something delicious to eat!
Sadly I have to say that I don’t do Indian. I love italian, thai, mexican, greek, french, vietnamese, sushi.. all that stuff is good but I just cannot get myself to eat indian food.
Good luck with your iron levels!
Those cherries look wonderful! Sadly they are not in season in Australia
I liek all cuisines – but I am not the hugest fan of chinese food – it always seems a little oily to me!
I’m a bit of a picky eater..other than “American” food, I like Italian/Mediterranean food, Middle Eastern food, and Indian food. I’ve always liked Italian/Mediterranean food and Middle Eastern, and grew to appreciate Indian cuisine when I met my then-boyfriend (now husband). I don’t care much for most Mexican or Chinese food, other than that I haven’t tried many cuisines
. I recently took a leaf from your book and have been eating peanut butter Lara bars, Maranatha almond butter and Earthgrains sandwich thins..and am totally in love!
