Gooood morning!

I had a work shindig after…work…last night, then had to finish up an extra curricular writing project, so guess who offered to bring me a succulent, summer feast, so I wouldn’t have to cook dinner? My Mom! Just another perk of living close to your parents. ;)

DSC_0002 (2)

Included in my dinner delivery - grilled veggies, which made me realize that I’ve been ignoring grilled onions for far too long. They are nearly perfect.

DSC_0004 (2)

Baked sweet potato fries. I think these were Alexia brand SPFs, and they were awesome! I’ve always been curious about them, and I may have to pick up a pack at the grocery store this weekend.

DSC_0010 (2)

And lightly seasoned tilapia. Thanks Ma!

DSC_0013

Oh, “dessert” consisted of approximately 1 million Lays potato chips. Seriously, why can’t you eat just one? Ugh!

I kept it a little more real for breakfast this morning with a fresh, light Greek Yogurt Cantaloupe Bowl!

DSC_0008

Filled to the brim with thick & creamy Peach Chobani mixed with chia seeds, then topped with sweet strawberries and crunchy almonds.

DSC_0003

Mmmkay, I HEART Peach Chobani! I think it’s my favorite flavor and it’s indescribably thick. Not thick like sour cream thick – rather, thick as in, it completely coats your mouth. Ugh, it’s incredible!

DSC_0005

Frosty!

DSC_0001

Do not adjust your computer monitor. You are not looking at Monday’s post, but you are looking at the same salad I had on Monday!

DSC_0018

Due to some ”chop once, eat twice” activities on Sunday afternoon, I made two of the same salads to be enjoyed for lunch twice this week. It’s so nice to have a two, pre-made lunches that I know I can just grab and go with.

DSC_0019

In the mix:

  • Baby spinach
  • Broccoli Slaw
  • Carrots
  • Roma tomato
  • Broccoli
  • Green onions
  • Goat cheese

DSC_0021

With a ripe, white peach on the side. PEACHES ARE AMAZING RIGHT NOW!

DSC_0022

Hello!

DSC_0025

Gosh, is it feeling like it’s Friday to anyone else besides me? I’ve definitely had day-later syndrome this entire week. One more day, one more day, one more day!!!

TGIAF!

I think movies from books are either hit or miss. I usually like to read the book first!

  2. Comment Callout

    AAaaah sweet potato fries= perfection!
I think it’s better to see the film 1st (in case how you picture a character after reading isn’t like how they ar ein the film)..but I read Revolutionary Road 1st, then saw it, and still loved it. Yet I’ve never read The Time Traveller’s Wife, and totally didn’t like the film :P

I love books that turn into movies, even the though movie is slightly disappointing. I always have to read the book first. I’ve finished several recently, now I just need to rent the movies!

Once again, your mom amazed me with her delicious dinners! She’s so sweet for bringing you dinner like that :)

I definitely like to read the book first – I rarely see movies that are better than the books (The Notebook was a rare exception). Of course, if the book is boring, I’d rather see the movie…most Nicholas Sparks books/movies are like this for me.

  6. Comment Callout

your mom sounds SO much like my mom. she always invites my sister and brother-in-law over for dinner bc my sis has the craziest schedule ever. so sweet!! and i ADORE peaches. i eat at least 1 a day – sometimes 2. they are so fresh and juicy i cant get enough!!

it depends on the book, but mostly i like seeing the movie. the book will most likely be better, but it’s fun to see someone else’s creative thought :)

    three question thursday??

What a nice momma you have!!

I like to read the book first…movies always seem to ruin the books! Lots of times I don’t even see the movie because I know I am going to be mad after I watch the movie!

  8. Jen 07.01.2010

    Comment Callout

I usually refuse to watch a movie until I have read the book first. I have The Time Traveler’s Wife but haven’t read it yet, so I won’t watch the movie. I agree with Sara, The Notebook was one exception to the “book is always better” rule!

I live close to my parents too, and my mom is always sending food back with me :D And I try reeeeeeeeaaaaly hard to read the book first before the movie, because generally I think the books are better. It makes me nervous for Eat, Pray, Love!! I think Julia Roberts is awesome, but that’s a toughie to pull off on the big screen! But if anyone can do it, she can!

It does kind of feel like Friday now that you said that… but no, it’s Thursday. :(

I’ve got mixed emotions about this due to the Nicholas Sparks movies…”The Notebook”, for example, was SPOT ON. I loved that movie after reading the book. BUUUUUUT on the other hand, I also read “Dear John” before seeing it in theatres, and was kind of disappointed by the lack of detail which was included in the book.

what a fabulous question you ask today! i just finished reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and then watched the movie. i love watching movies AFTER i read books. they never compare but its always entertaining and nice to SEE what you were visualizing for weeks.

Most books that are turned into movies ruin the book for me. I used to be really into Twilight (the books), and then the first movie came out and basically instantly killed that for me. Harry Potter has done pretty decently, as did Lord of the Rings, but overall they’re pretty bad. Because the book is usually better, I prefer to read the book before I see the movie. I also feel like it would help me understand the characters and plot better.
I totally agree with you on the day-later syndrome thing. I keep waking up thinking it’s almost the weekend, and a long weekend at that.

  21. Comment Callout

It depends on how well the movie is done. And I always prefer to read the book first. Sometimes movies leave parts out that would make them better so I like knowing the little things they can’t put in a 2 or 3 hour movie.

I think the books are ALWAYS better, but I love to see how the director turns that them into a movie- and the casting is fun to check out too!

The only movie I liked better than the book was The Devil Wears Prada. I actually read Eat, Pray, Love because I saw a movie preview & thought the movie looked great. I loved the book, so we’ll see how it translates to the big screen!

The cantaloupe meal looks great too and you can never go wrong with a diverse salad like that!
I LOVE books so they are always preferred to movies any day of the week!

  28. Comment Callout

How sweet of your mom to bring you dinner! Sometimes I think it’s nice to read the book before going to see the film. However, if you haven’t read the book then you are less likely to have any preconcieved ideas about what it’s going to be like and so may not be as disappointed!

I’ve started doing the chop once, eat twice salads. And I like it! Having one at work for lunch today in fact.

Your mom is awesome – the meal looks fabulous, especially the grilled vegetables! I need to start on the chop-once salads. I do occasionally if I am having veggies for dinner and then lunch the next day but usually don’t make two lunch salads at once.

  34. Julie 07.01.2010

I always read first and then depending on how much I like the book I may go see the movie. I typically pass on the movie. The movie always ruins it for me. I’m a very visual reader, so I watch the movie in my head as I read.

I usually never like movies made of books, the books are much better usually and I like to use my imagination. The movie almost never meets my imagination :)

  37. Elyse 07.01.2010

    Comment Callout

Usually I find that books are better because you read them at your own pace, and the details are greater so we all start to form our own version of the story in our imaginations. Movies are all up to directors and sometimes they don’t measure up to what we had pictured. But not always, sometimes they are just as good if not better (aka The Lovely Bones.. FANTASTIC movie). I like to watch the movie first before I read the book because then I can still be surprised and not get disappointed if they leave things out that I may have liked better in the book. :-)

Your dinner looked like mine minus the chicken. Our garden is in full swing and there is nothing better than grilled onions with squash. I do not like movies after the book. I have my own idea of how the characters are in my head and the movie usually ruins it.

  39. Comment Callout

i usually always end up liking the book better…for instance dear john was a great easy read book but the movie?? Ummm the only thing that kept it on my TV was looking at channing tatum! haha it was so bad!

on another note, i Love the peach chobani too!! its so delicious! have you tried the strawberry banana?? its amazing!

I have a conflicting issue with the book and movie debate. Personally, I prefer reading the books. But when I do watch the movie version, I usually won’t watch it unless the book has been read. JK Rowling, Ian McEwan and Philippa Gregory are three favorite authors of mine who I found simply because their books were turned into movies and I had to read the books first. So sometimes it’s a good deal, but other times it’s not. Either way, books come first in my world.
