Good morning!
After a warm and sticky Mom walk this morning, I dug into a brand new breakfast – Raspberry Banana Oatgurt!
WHATgurt? Oatgurt! Oatmeal + Greek yogurt!
I first spied this concoction on Holly’s blog, and was confused. "Wait a second," I said to myself, "hot oatmeal and cold yogurt? Together?! How will this work?"
In the mix:
- 1/3 cup oatmeal
- 2/3 cup water
- banana
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- Raspberry Chobani Yogurt
- Michigan cherries
My doubt flew out the window after my first bite – this was fantastic!
The hot oatmeal and cold Greek yogurt melded together like velvet. YES.
These are the cherries my Mom brought fresh from Michigan. Wowsers, they were sweet. What a breakfast!
Lunch is pretty spectacular too – I packed a nice sampler style lunch!
A pepper jack cheese stick – great for melting in grilled cheese, topping salads, and as an easy, on-the-go snack.
A Peanut Butter and Jelly Larabar. If you think I went bananas with the Chobani this weekend, you should have seen me in the Larabar aisle! 4/$5 = happy IGE!
This flavor is one of my faves (second only to Peanut Butter Cookie.) It tastes exactly like the sammie, but has only four ingredients. Riddle me that?!
Rounded all out with a perfectly ripe cantaloupe half.
I ended up eating the other half of this cantaloupe for dessert last night, instead of my peanut butter ice cream bar. Someone wanted to see a picture of the empty ‘loupe half – so here you go! Demolished.
Trust me when I tell you that I am not an "I eat fruit to satisfy my dessert cravings" type of gal, but this cantaloupe was SWEETER than ice cream. The sweetest one I’ve ever had, actually!
Topped with saran wrap and wrapped with a rubber band for easy transport.
Satisfaction!
So I was was watching a Comedy Central special with Nick Swardson this weekend (hysterical) and he pondered, what if everyone had to grow up and become the first thing they ever wanted to be when they were little? Ie, when he was 6 he wanted to be a ninja. So what if he really had to be a Ninja when he grew up?
If that were true, I’d be sitting behind the telephone switchboard at the White House right now. It’s true. When I was about 7 years old, I got a million books on the White House and wanted to become one of the women who sat behind the switchboards directing calls. Random!

What would you be today, if you had to become the first thing you ever wanted to be? Did anyone actually end up becoming what they wanted to be when they were little?

I can’t remember if ‘singer’ or ‘teacher’ came first, but I’ve dabbled in both.
I have sung in a professional choir (and hope to do it again soon), and sing at church, weddings, and funerals. And this past year I worked full time in a public school pre-k classroom for an AmeriCorps program called MN Reading Corps helping the kids with their literacy skills. Needless to say, neither would be entirely satisfactory for me on a full-time, rest of my life basis.
I would be an artist :0) Don’t know why – I’m not artistic at all!
oooh I just love your little breakfast bowl!!! So adorable!!!
I would own a cafe or a patisserie
In the country somewhere
I would be a writer, veterinarian, and flight attendant; I could never decide between those three careers!
Hey, on a totally unrelated note, I wanted to share the best running motivational thought I’ve heard recently (since I’ve been not so excited about my daily run recently): “You won’t regret going for your run, but you WILL regret not going.” Aside from someone lacing my shoes on for me, this has been the IT that is getting me out the door and on the trail!
Pb cookie and pb&j larabars are my favorites too! I also think Nick Swardson is hilarious – I love it when he talks about his grandma, so funny. When I was a little girl I really wanted to be a ballerina so my parents paid for lessons and I was completely bored with it – all I remember is wishing that we would TWIRL!
According to my mom, I would be Vanna White. I used to think she had the coolest job in the world. Who wouldn’t love wearing pretty dresses and sparkly jewelry in front of an audience while turning big blocks letters for a living?
Was reading this month’s Real Simple and thought of you when I got to page 214: 10 Ideas for Flank Steak! Can’t wait to try some of them.
I guess since I was 3 I wanted to be a doctor. But I said that I would be a doctor and my mom and dad would drive me to work everyday because I wouldn’t have a car?! Oooh the minds of little kids. Definitely NOT heading down the doctor path anymore!
Random question: is the dish you used for your breakfast from CVS? I only ask because I just bought some very similar dishes from there last week.
My parents tell me that the first job I wanted was a job at Chuckie Cheese. Really shooting for the stars, right?
I am SO trying that breakfast tomorrow…I’m really pumped about it, haha. And PB&J LARA bars are my FAVORITE flavor!!! OMG it’s amazing how it tastes just like a PB&J sandwich!
I just made some of this Oatmeal + yogurt. O man was it good! I put PB in my oatmeal and used strawberry Chiobani so it was seriously like PBJ oats. So good. Thank you so much for the idea!
I LOVE Chobani yogurt! My husband is diabetic, and this is wonderful for his diet. He actually mixes it with Chia seed. Do you have a Costco membership? If you do, they have a great deal there; individual containers for a really good price.
[...] some strange reason, I don’t remember seeing the White House on my previous trip and, given my childhood obsession with working there, it was at the tippy-top of my must-see-in-DC list this round. I nearly died when my in-laws told [...]
