A Sweet Farewell to Blue Bunny + Free Ice Cream Giveaway!

163

My prayers have been answered – a morning without rain! :D

It was cool and there was a very “summer camp” vibe in the air as my Mom and I walked around our standard path in the wee hours of the morning. We hadn’t been out since the big storm on Sunday and couldn’t believe how many trees were still down! I am a tree LOVER (my dream house is surrounded by them) so it made me sad to see so many gone. Such is life, I suppose!

At any rate, I’ve been thinking about this morning’s breakfast for several days…ever since I spied some juicy mangoes on sale at the store this weekend. I sliced one up, added a few more exotic tastic ingredients, and created a Tropical Banango Smoothie!

DSC_0009

In the mix:

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond breeze
  • splash Coconut syrup
  • 1 Pineapple Chobani Greek Yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • 1 mango

DSC_0006

Add all your ingredients in a blender and whiiiiiir.

DSC_0007

Silky-smooth, THICK and tropical – what a treat! I could really taste the Greek Yogurt in there – it added just a hint of tang to cut the sweetness of the other ingredients.

DSC_0011

FYI – I haven’t been able to stop singing  “If you like pina coladas…” since I made this. Like, out loud. Ahh! Do you like pina coladas? Getting caught in the rain? I like pinas but no, I hate geting caught in the rain! I prefer to be indoors when it comes. ;)

DSC_0013

Salad for dinner, salad for lunch – I’ve got my second “chop once, eat twice” salad that I created on Sunday for lunches on Monday and today!

DSC_0065

In the mix:

  • Spinach
  • Cucumber
  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Pepper Jack cheese

DSC_0070

This salad was especially fantastic on Monday – the pepper jack cheese chunks REALLY take it over the top. I just cut a cheese stick in half, and then cube it up.

DSC_0071

Some min-mins on the side!

DSC_0067

I like the Lemon Bar flavor for its zip and the Cashew Cookie for its decadence.

DSC_0069

A fine meal, I’d say!

Wells Blue Bunny Trip Recap: A Sweet Farewell!

By Day 2 of the Blue Bunny Blogger Summit, we had already gone through a tour of the Blue Bunny ice cream factory, indulged in a luscious lunch laced with ice cream and concocted our own wacky, over-the-top bowls of ice cream. At this point you’d think I’d be ice creamed out. You’d be wrong…ok I was a little ice creamed out…but the show must go on and anyways, I ALWAYS scream for ice cream! :D

On our final day we headed to the Blue Bunny Visitor’s Center & Official Ice Cream Parlor, to bid adieu with an informal lunch & sundae ordered right off the parlor menu.

IMG_0067

The Blue Bunny Visitor’s Center attracts travelers from all over the country to come and learn how ice cream got to America (via European immigrants in the 18th century,) which presidents had a wicked sweet tooth (George Washington & Thomas Jefferson – those rascals!) and give everyone a peek at how Blue Bunny ice cream is made via a simulated factory production line (since the actual factory isn’t open to the public.) Oh and, of course, have some ice cream!!

IMG_0066

Out front is an original, restored 1940′s milk delivery truck that was used to deliver milk when Wells was just a dairy operation.

IMG_0065

It’s adorable!

IMG_0064

Attached to the visitor’s center is the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor. It’s got the quaint feeling of a 1920′s soda shop.

IMG_0060

Complete with tall, spinning stools at the bar,

IMG_0062

and soda pulls behind the counter. All that was missing was a soda jerk! I’m sure he was around there somewhere…

IMG_0073

I felt as though I had been transported back in time. :)

IMG_0074

We settled into a back party room and dined on some Godfather’s Pizza – a slice of Veggie and Black Olive for this girl. :)

IMG_0047

Midwesterner’s – I know you can attest to the insane deliciousness that is Godfather’s Pizza. It is simply, the best.

IMG_0048

We ended lunch on a sweet note, literally, by ordering a treat of our choice from the parlor menu.

IMG_0053

So many decisions!

IMG_0052

Do I order a sundae? A split?? A shake??? a cone???? Ahhh!

IMG_0051

In the end, a Turtles & Cream Bon Petit Sundae won out. ;) Sweet, cinnamon apples layered with crunchy granola and whipped cream, topped with 2 Turtles & Cream Bon Petits and drizzled with caramel suace!!!! (oh snap – T&CBP calorie counts are not for the faint of heart!)

IMG_0058

It was as sweet as it was pretty, and I felt as though the apples in the bottom made it a wee bit healthier than anything else on the menu. ;)

IMG_0055

After lunch, we explored the parlor’s gift shop where Blue Bunny invited us to pick a few things out to take home as souvenirs!

IMG_0072

I picked out a sliver spoon for my Mom’s shadow box, an adorable t-shirt for my nephew, a water bottle, because you can never have too many water bottles, and a vintage looking postcard, that I framed after I got home!

IMG_0076

Soon enough it was time to say goodbye! :(

I feel SO incredibly fortunate to have had the amazing experience of touring the Blue Bunny ice cream factory, getting to visit HQ, learning so much about a company and product that I was already passionate about, and getting to know the Blue Bunny employees. Holy cow, the employees!

Such caring, knowledgeable and generous people. If nothing else, I am thankful that I got to meet such a great group. It made my life long love of Blue Bunny products even STRONGER – it that was even possible! Thanks again to the entire Blue Bunny team for such a memorable experience!

On that note, today is your last chance to win a coupon for a FREE box of frozen novelties or carton of premium Blue Bunny ice cream! Today’s question, which you have until 10pm to answer correctly, is:

How many scoops of premium vanilla ice cream are in the Blue Bunny parlor’s BIGGEST sundae – The Goliath Sundae?

a. 6

b. 8

c. 4

d. 10

The answer to yesterday’s question was “b”. Vanilla is the most popular Blue Bunny ice cream flavor, followed by Chocolate and Bunny Tracks (I have a serious passion for Peanut Butter Panic – hence the 4th option!) Congrats to:

Tracey: Definitely b – vanilla! Thanks for such a great giveaway!

Wahoo! Email your address to me at IowaGirlEats@hotmail.com, and I’ll get your coupon out in the mail. Good luck to everyone else!

Hey, IGE – I just wanted to let you know that my lunch today is Beanis-inspired! I took black beans, green pepper, red onion, carrots, and celery and marinated it in some homemade Italian dressing over night. Today I put it on some romaine and spinach and topped it all off with some cheddar and some crushed chips. It sounds crazy but it is good!!

It’s funny because I just recently learned what Blue Bunny even was. My stepmom grew up in Texas so she was totally informed and in love with it but I have grown up in ALbuquerque, NM and until recently stores didn’t carry their products.
Still need to try it. Looks delicious though :)
