Business in the Front, Party in the Back

Would you believe me if I told you that I ate at a place called Mullets tonight??

IMG_9756

Well, I did – HA!

IMG_9728

Mullets is a new downtown restaurant/bar, with a fabulous two-tiered patio, and terrific views of downtown and the ball park.

IMG_9726

The inside is decorated with, what else, pictures of people with mullets!

IMG_9730

Oh Carol.

IMG_9754

I’ll admit, I was a bit hesitant to come to a place named after a haircut with two, distinct zones (party & business!) for dinner, but Ben and I had heard really good things about their food, and decided to make up our minds for ourselves!

IMG_9727

I opened my menu and was pleasantly surprised to find dishes like Gourmet Grilled Cheese,

IMG_9736

Sweet Potato Po’ Boy,

IMG_9735

and Grilled Tuna Salad!

IMG_9737

I went with the Tuna Salad and ordered a Sweet Tea Vodka to sip on while we waited for our food.

IMG_9740

Have you ever tried this?! It’s Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka and it is AMAZING! You would honestly swear that you were drinking just straight up sweet tea. So smooth, so refreshing. :)

IMG_9741

Ben went for a brew…

IMG_9744 IMG_9745

and The Samburg sandwich. UMMMM!!!!

IMG_9747

We’re talking bacon-wrapped polish sausage, deep fried, then smothered in peppers, onions, BBQ sauce, chili, herbed cream cheese & colby jack cheese. HOLY COW!!! I had a couple bites – it was crazy good!

IMG_9748

My Grilled Tuna Salad was O.K. It had iceberg lettuce, spinach, dried cherries, croutons, Maytag blue cheese & grilled tuna.

IMG_9749

I think Mullets is known more for their crazy sandwich and burger concoctions, than their salads. :) Next time I want to try their pizza. Some people around us had it, and it looked SO good.

IMG_9751

Overall, Mullets = a really good time and I’m looking forward to a repeat visit!

IMG_9755

Tonight, Ben and I are watching Green Zone with Matt Damon,

green-zone-poster[1]

and I do believe there’s a bowl of Bunny Tracks calling my name. Can you hear it too? It’s deafening! ;)

‘night!

Have you ever had a terrible, no-good, very bad haircut?

I love Sweet Tea Vodka. Last summer I drank firefly vodka and lemonade like it was my job. I love discovering new places. Glad Mullets was a great time.

Oh, sweet tea vodka…I had the Firefly and lemonade combo, too. I’m very sad to say it is now on the “never drink again” list. It tasted great that night, though!

I had my fair share of craziness with the hair…perms, sun-in, at-home highlights, bleach jobs, black, red, short, layered…you name it! Thank god those days are behind me!

Sounds like a fun night out! Ben’s food does look good even if it’s not so healthy : )

this truly falls under the “never judge a book by its cover” saying. Sounds like a great local restaurant! That sweet potato sandwich sounds really good – never thought to put a sweet potato with bleu cheese dressing. interesting.

I have curly hair, so up until my late teens all my hair cuts were bad hair cuts, lol. I didnt know how to work with my hair and as a result I was always working agains it. Trying to fight the curl. Now I love my curl, and have my 1 and only person who I let cut and dry my hair.

You want a good drink with sweet tea vodka, try this…
    Sweet tea vodka
    lemonade
    cranberry juice
    peach schnapps
We had it at the Old Ebbitt Grill in D.C. and they call it a Sweet Caroline. SOOOO good!!! We got some minted lemonade at the farmer’s market today and I think it would be delicious with some sweet tea vodka in it.

Wow I cannot believe how incredible all of those concoctions sound! This restaurant kind of reminds me of the Cherry Cricket in Denver. The outside can sort of be intimidating, but the food is amazing! The last time I went there I had the most amazing turkey burger with green chile verde and pepperjack cheese.

I have a great stylist I can recommend for haircuts. Needless to say i have had my share of very bad ones until I came to Des Moines and found a fabulous stylist. Will have to try Mullets one day. Always looking for a new place to eat.

OMG love sweet tea vodka! What did you mix it with? Your mixer looks clear. I love to mix it with sugar free lemonade. Delicious!

I understand your hesitation with a place called “Mullets.” Not exactly the best marketing, in my opinion. The food sounds delish, though! I think I would have gone with the sweet potato sandwich. (:

I never had more than one inch cut from my hair until I graduated high school… Every time I went for a trim, I was so paranoid they were accidentally going to chop it all off!

Can’t believe a restaurant would name itself Mullets!

  14. Comment Callout

Bahaha, what a name! How many Billy Ray Cyrus shots were there?

Your drink looks so amazing! Vodka and I don’t usually get along, but Arnold Palmers are so delish! Tea + Lemonade + Booze = how can you lose?

I remember last year when I walked in for a trim and got 5-6 inches lopped off…It was an early morning appt and I had to go straight to class bawling because all my hair was gone! I felt like a boy.

The worst haircut that I have ever had was the one I recently got. Its not a BAD cut, it is just weird.

I have a really short in the back and stacked, you know the one, everyone has it. But I have to tell you, it gives you the worst BED HEAD in the mornings, so strange!

I have been growning it out and it TAKES FOREVER to grow it out the front is longish and the back is short. Hmmmm… is it a reverse mullet?
    HA!

In North Carolina we called it “Long Island Ice Tea”!!!!

I had a horrible chin length blunt bob in 8th grade. But with my wavy hair and no desire to blowdry it was always poofy.

My husband has this obsession with mullet wigs so I totally laughed out loud when I read the title and the name of the restaurant. Too funny!
