I started the week off with a bang, and I’m ending it on one too!

The weather was fantastically Fall-like last night, so I threw open all the windows and doors, and slept to the sounds of the cicadas. :D

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you know that I frequently give shout outs to my beloved cicadas. True, they’re disgusting insects that most people loathe, but to me, they’re the sounds of summer and actually lull me to sleep!

This morning’s Mom walk was perfectly crisp as well and afterwards I got down on an insane breakfast combo - Tropical Greek Yogurt Parfait.

I actually had the wonderful dilemma of having too MANY choices for breakfast! Peach smoothie? Almond butter toast? Pumpkin Pankcakes? Oatgurt?

DSC_0007

How about a Pineapple Chobani Greek Yogurt topped with a juicy mango and crunchy Nature’s Path Pumkin Flax Plus Granola?!

DSC_0001

Ding, ding, ding!!!

DSC_0002

omg I can’t even… Ok. This was amazing. Tropical, creamy and I adore that crunchy granola. If you haven’t given mangoes a try because you’re unsure as to how to cut them – check out my How To Cut a Mango tutorial. It’s so easy – I promise!

More food in bowls – Sweet Corn Soup and Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels for lunch!

DSC_0040

Gosh this soup is good. It’s one of those soups that you could add anything to, and it’d make it even better. Have some zucchini or squash? Add those puppies right in. Sun-dried tomatoes? Sure, why not? The more, the merrier!

DSC_0041

I like to season simple soups like this with a TON of pepper. It totally pops.

The stash of peanut butter filled pretzels that my in-laws sent me is dwindling quickly. Probably becuase, cough, a certain husband of mine, cough, can’t keep his paws out of the bag. Cough!

Is it noon yet? ;)

I think we’re supposed to get some storms later today, which I feel is only fair since it’s been so wonderfully wonderful here lately. I wouldn’t hate it – as long as it stops before 5:00pm. I forsee a nice run and perhaps a cold beverage enjoyed on a patio in my future this evening?! :mrgreen:

TGIF, guys!

~~~~~
Do you keep a stash of “just for me” foods at your house? Items that others are “encouraged” not to touch? ;)
Mine includes chocolate. You never touch a woman’s chocolate stash without expecting to face consequences!
  1. I’m with ya on the chocolate! Luckily, my husband doesn’t really have a sweet tooth, so I know that my sweet treats are usually safe!
  2. Sara says:
    I love the sound of cicadas! I wish the weather was fall-like here in GA, though…it’s 100+ degrees every day!! Well, technically it’s in the 90′s, but with the humidity, etc it FEELS like 100+ degrees. Blech!
    My food is so weird that normally I don’t have to discourage others from eating my stash of food! Although my dad does love to demolish entire packages of chocolate chip cookies/fig newtons late at night LOL
  3. *Andrea* says:
    love the mango cutting tutorial – very helpful! i always buy frozen mango chunks because i am lazy haha
    i keep a drawer with almond milk, natural nut butters, nutritional yeast, pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, flax and canned veggies in the bottom of our cubbard thinking no one will eat from it (i even call it my drawer) but my family definitely takes some of the stuff once in a while. i used to complain haha but since i’m not paying for the food i guess i can’t ;)
    the combo of pineapple yogurt + mango chunks looks so tropical and yummy!
  4. Sarah R says:
    My husband knows not to go near my chocolate and specialty nut betters unless I offer it to him. Then there are things he willingly stays away from–my Kashi Go Lean and Brussels sprouts to name a few.
  5. Alyse says:
    I have a white chocolate chip stash. ;)
  6. Martina says:
    My husband and I each have foods the other is not allowed to eat without asking.
    Mine is dried mangos, diet coke and the “secret” emergency bag of zesty doritos. His is chocolate milk, twizzlers and craisins. We both each have a container of ice cream in the freezer (same flavour) since we would always argue over who ate the last bowl.
  7. Hahaha YES! I make it very clear which food the Hubs is not welcome to share! ;)
  8. Tracy says:
    For sure…..I have those few foods that are “just mine”. The boy just knows…don’t touch! :)
  9. Neen says:
    haha yes i have a whole bag of dried fruit, nuts and other health foods which is *just for me*, my dark choc stash is in my desk drawer at work so no chance of someone pinching it!! love the look of the PB filled pretzels!
  10. Yes! I do have a just for me stash. I have my own shelf in our pantry. But it’s pretty much foods that my husband would not want anyway like coconut flakes, tea, protein bars, etc.
  11. i definitely have “just for me” foods, but somehow everyone always finds them! i hid my dark chocolate dreams PB from my boyfriend bc i paid over $5 for the jar and it would’ve been gone in a day! i also buy really healthy cereals that my family is just not interested in, which helps. but someone at my boyfriend’s apartment keeps eating my chobani! and that is not a funny joke!! FRIDAY! =)
  12. Bridget says:
    I wish I could hide food and keep it for myself. With 3 kids anything is fair game!
    • Dawn says:
      I know what you mean Bridget!
      My DD just keeps snacking her way thru my hidden treats, which usually include Vitatops (when I budget for them) and dark chocolate.
      Thank goodness she does not like Greek yogurt and has her own blended type!
  13. haha my husband and i are kinda like 2nd graders when it comes to food. i have to buy equals of everything–6 peaches, 4 apples, etc. so it’s “fair.” but we’re good at sharing! i promise! some of our healthy treats (dried mangoes, craisins, certain crackers/pita chips/etc) i usually end up eating more of, but that’s because i pack his lunch and mine so i just put that stuff in mine more often! haha! but he has random junk food around that i don’t eat much (or any) of so it’s all fair! :)
  14. Colleen says:
    My dark chocolate and mint candy stash was all mine until my second son ‘learned’ he loved them too – so now I have to share…
  15. Megan says:
    Yes, I have a “just for me” stash. It’s mostly low-cal foods that my husband and kids won’t touch (tofu, vitatops, etc.), but I also have a dark chocolate stash :)
  16. Angharad says:
    Ha! It drives me insane when I buy certain cereals for me and me alone and then my husband destroys the box in a day and a half. I basically cannot keep anything off limits. He thinks not sharing everything is a farce. But I am with you – there are some things you just don’t touch!
    Happy Friday!!
  17. Mimi says:
    I love baking food to share with people, but someone better ask before they steal the last of whatever-I-baked.
  18. Dream Mom says:
    No stash really. However when my son was younger he liked these Nutter Butter Bites. It was the only brand of cookie he would eat. I stored them in a bin in the armoire next to the dining room table, where he ate. After he was done eating (He’s severely disabled so I’d have to feed him.) he would give me these flirty eyes and look over at the armoire. I called them “cookie eyes” and ask him if he’d like some cookies. He’d give me a big smile and for a few years, he was known as “cookie eyes”.
  19. Iowa Boy Eats says:
    Wait?! WHAT?! You have a stash?!
  20. Mikael says:
    I don’t get just for me stuff very often. Right now, my just for me food is probably the string cheese. I don’t know who else eats it. Usually it’s the healthy snacks that I like to call mine because I think it’s wrong when my brother who’ll eat anything just has to eat them. That’s when I have anger issues. That mango parfait looks way yummy!
  21. Lisa says:
    :( I always look for pineapple chobani and can never find it! Your breakfast looked amazing!
    I do keep a special stash of things just for me. Once I seem to fall in love with something, so does he. Then it’s all gone. He’s a volume eater, so the ratio of us eating something is 3:1. So no, I haven’t shared my smore cliff junior bars that I love with him. No, not yet. :) Something are better left a secret!
  22. Elyse says:
    I cannot tell you how many times we have been in heated debates over our fresh fruit stash! haha I will chop up strawberries or cantelope and he comes in and snacks most of it all before I can store it away for later use. I actually got so mad that I started putting our fruit in his and hers containers just so I actually get a chance to eat some of the produce I buy! I can’t help but laugh, but hey at least it’s healthy right? I however, know not to touch his boxed mac and cheese. Thankfully I am not a fan of the stuff or it would be war in our home! :-)
  23. It feels fall like here too! I love it for running weather, but that’s about it. I actually wish it could be summer year round!
    Looove those TJ pretzels.
  24. Tina Z says:
    I agree with the chocolate, I keep large bars and break off pieces during the week. My latest favorite? Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt. I highly recommend trying it! Also Soy Crisps and greek yogurt- sort of random but I look forward to both as midday snacks.
  25. Stephanie says:
    oh totally agreed on the chocolate thing!!!!!!!!
  26. You can’t blame the man! Those pretzels are like crack! :)
  27. Anna says:
    Not that I designate it as “just for me” but living with a vegetarian… the meat’s all mine! ;)
  28. Lauren says:
    Girl, we are on the same page with our breakfast bowls lately. I just had a tropical yogurt bowl the other day. Pineapple Chobani is pure bliss and mangos are so amazing right now! Such a wonderful tropical breakfast! ;)
  29. I have a lot of digestive issues so there are plenty of things that I can’t eat. The “me safe” versions are completely off limits to Hunni :-)
  30. I totally have that stash! It is filled with chocolate and nut butters. :)
  31. Becky says:
    I think every woman needs a secret chocolate stash! Sometimes it’s the only thing that will do.
  32. Yeah, pretty much all of my food is just for me as the hubby and I have completely different taste when it comes to food!
  33. sara says:
    Um, yeah, I totally have a stash. Recently a friend brought me pb-filled pretzels from TJ, and since the bag broke I put them in a ziploc. Came home the next day and they were ALL GONE. He didn’t realize they were a special treat. I just about cried :(
  34. I definitely have multiple just for me food stashes.
    My sister and my dad have a tendency to gobble up all my food and leave me with nothing (and no mention that they did it).
    So my just for me stash includes cheese, granola bars, chocolate (shhh don’t tell!) and a whole heap of other things.
    It’s my way of making sure I can have the things I want – but I often encourage them to eat some of the things in my stash drawer when it becomes overwhelmingly full :P
  35. BroccoliHut says:
    I definitely have a “my food” stash which includes all my trail mix goodies, like nuts, dried fruit, and chocolate chips. I’m also kinda possessive about my GoLean.
  36. I think my husband has more “just for me” foods than I do. But I would have to put ice cream and chocolate into my “just for me” categories. I’ve gone so far as to hide the food so he can’t get to it. But it never works. So I’ve just been buying more to share, it’s only fair.
  37. Jessica says:
    This is a random question, but do you microwave your soup in those plastic dishes or do you have bowls at work? I’ve wanted to ask for a while… :)
