Mornin’!
My temperature gauge…I guess what you would call a thermometer…is reading 65 right now! My morning Mom walk was dreamily reminiscent of a cool, crisp Fall morning and I was actually cold in my Barney Butter t-shirt (love that shirt!) Not that I’m wishing Fall upon myself or anything, because I am NOT ready for summer to end. Are you?
No, I have spent far too little time on my back deck, sipping cool liquids, for summer to be over. Because that’s how I measure when I’m ready to usher in Fall – the amount of time I’ve spent outside on back decks.
Something that was photographed on my back deck – breakfast! Fruit & Greek Yogurt Bowl!
In the mix:
- Pineapple Chobani Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 banana
- Blueberries
- Nature’s Path Pumpkin Flax Plus Granola
Did you know there are no naturally blue foods in existence? Blueberries and blue potatoes are technically purple. Did you also know that the color blue is supposedly an appetite suppressant?
No worries, my appetite was fully intact as I devoured this.
Lunch is centered around this baby – MaraNatha Creamy Almond Butter with a Hint of Sea Salt. I’m loving this mild and luscious almond butter more and more each time I use it.
So much so, that it’s worked its way into every component of my lunch!
Such as a doughy Thin Bun generously smeared with the stuff,
a crunchy Pink Lady Apple patiently waiting to be dunked in it,
and some…peanut butter filled pretzels. Ok, they’re not filled with almond butter,
but the crumbs from the bag made excellent almond butter scoopers.
In other news, check out my newest purchase – a contact lens carrying case! You know you’re getting old when you get as pumped as I was at the eye doctor yesterday when I spied this baby for purchase!
I’ve worn glasses since I was in 3rd grade, and worn contacts since I was in 7th. Without them, I am blind as a bat. We’re talking, must hold hand no further than 5 inches away from face to be able to see it, blind.
Somehow, this adorable travel case makes having to wear contacts, just a teeny bit better.
Probably because it’s like a miniature glasses case. I LOVE miniature things! Such as mini snickers, mini watermelons and mini babybel cheeses.
Mmmmini.
Ok, I’m super excited that it’s Friday and I hope you are too. We have a fun wedding to head to this weekend, but tonight is totally free. We’ll see what we come up with!
Wishing you a fabulous day!

Do you wear glasses or contacts, or were you blessed with good vision?
Where I’m stumbling around without my glasses, Ben has 100% perfect vision. Hopefully our children inherit their Dad’s eyeballs!

I have glasses for late night driving, because I am near sighted in one eye and far in the other. But my vision isn’t bad my eyes just get tired of readjusting all the time.
i am BEYOND ready for summer to end-but of course i live in austin,tx where it’s blazing hot regardless of what time of day it is.
i wouldn’t worry too much about your excitement for the contact case. yesterday i got excited about buying a high chair for my 8 month old and a food processor and i couldn’t help but stop and wonder when i became so domestic!
I have eyes just like you described yours as being…everyone always makes fun of me because without my glasses on or contacts in, I can’t see a thing! I always say that I wish I could just see the numbers on the alarm clock when I wake up without having to grab my glasses to see what it says!
I’m sad summer is coming to an end also…it’s just gone by way to quickly!
I am like you! Blind as a bat… I don’t know what my exact vision is but my contact prescription is -9.5. Practically blind!
Oh my gosh…my prescription is that bad too!! And my name is Amber also—crazy!
out of everyone in my family, i was the only one blessed with 20-20 vision! my sister has worn glasses since she was 15 months!! so cute. and yes, totally with you on the mini thing – my dad had a mini hammer the other day and called me down to look at it because he knows i love it! same goes for mini condiments that they serve on airplanes or in europe! im not ready for summer to end, either, considering i havent even made it to the beach yet!! office jobs are no bueno! and girl, PLEASE tell me you eat more than just that for lunch! SIX PRETZELS?? come onnnn
It’s all that was left in the bag
I have great vision, but my fiance Bobby is also blind as a bat! I try to put his glasses on, and I get dizzy!
LASIK is SO worth the investment!! I’m now 20/15 in both eyes (better than perfect)!
LASKI is amazing! I couldn’t read the big E on the chart without my glasses or contacts. Now I see better than 20/20. Truely worth it!
I wear contact lenses and would totally love to get a contact case like you did! That would be especially awesome when I’m going on vacation because I always feel like I just dump them in the cosmetic bag. They could have a home instead! Your yummy looking yogurt breakfasts in the morning totally inspired me to break out the Chobani in the morning instead of the afternoon. I decided on a vanilla Chobani with granola, flaxseed, almonds, and blueberries! It was super yummy so thanks for the push in the right direction:)
ugh! i’m jealous of ben. i wear contacts, too. glasses are SO annoying, but lately i’ve been having eye issues, so i’ve had to wear them more often. booO!
it did feel like fall this morning! i’m like your husband- i can see just fine without glasses. but my husband (also named ben!) needs glasses. he’s never worn contacts though….
I am near sighted, but seem to do ok during the day without glasses. I have to wear them at night or when I watch a movie though. I wish I could wear contacts since I am not a fan of glasses, but I tried it once and that didn’t last long. I have a thing about anything in or near my eyes. I am thinking of looking into lasik because I have heard so many positive things about it.
I USED to be blind as a bat, then I got laser surgery!!! I am SO glad that I did … no more contacts or glasses
Lasik is really the best thing ever. Not cheap, but soooooo worth every penny!
I started wearing glasses in the 8th grade and contacts shortly after that. I love that little contact lens case. Very cute!
I consider myself quite lucky to have perfect vision. My parents had to get low-level glasses as they got older, but, for now, I’m counting my blessings!
P.S. Your “mini” speech made me think of Mini-Me from Austin Powers… Random. (:
I soooo love that contact lens case. I’ve worn contacts since the 8th grade. I’d love to get Lasik:)
Ready for fall like temperatures!
Contacts! and the one in my right eye is severely bugging me right now. Do you ever think about getting Lasix? I don’t know if I could afford it. Second – is the risk worth it?! My aunt and one of my good friends both had successful surgeries. Something like that is truly life changing!
I guess I’m moderately blind . . . I can still see, but it’s definitely not safe for me to drive without my contacts! I would LOVE to get LASIK, but I have a shopping problem & there never seems to be enough money left over for boring things like surgery!
Our little family is the same way, I wear contacts/glasses and The Man can see perfectly on his own!
Glasses-contacts-blind as a bat… the works! My contacts seem to always move out of place and get so finicky towards the end of the day that I am FORCED to take them out. It feels like I have something in my eye, but I really don’t… Any suggestions anyone?
Two: My sister had to stop wearing contacts because the inside of her eyelids were lined with styes. I know – totally UNpleasant. But worth checking out, as I know she often felt the same way with her contacts.
Have you tried eye drops? My eyes also often felt the same way, but because they’re so darn dry. Places like Target and Walgreens sell drops to help your eyes retain moisture and they work fairly well. You use these before putting contacts in and after taking them out. But rewetting drops for when your contacts are in can also work wonders if you haven’t tried!
Where do you get your almond butter? I’ve been aching to try it but I have no idea where to get some… And your best almond butter recommendation please? Haha.
Blessed with good vision here.
I’ve been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade (yay for required vision/hearing tests every other year in my school district) and contacts since 8th grade. My vision seems to be continually getting worse (my eyes are still growing. afterall I’m only 19) and my mother is even surprised by how horrific my vision is.
Glasses since 6th or 7th, and contacts since 8th grade. However, I’ve hit a bump in the road with my contacts. Since November/December my eyes have been SO dry that my eyes just won’t take my contacts anymore.
Sad day. My eyes have been gradually getting better, but I still wear my glasses a LOT more than ever before.
So freaking cute! I have a silly eye disease that can only be fixed permanently with corneal transplant surgery (um, no thanks). So I deal by wearing hard contact lenses (incredibly painful and a huge pain in the @$$). I’m not even suppose to wear glasses because there would be nothing supporting my corneas without the lenses… grr… and I loove glasses. But a case like that would make my eye issue so much happier!
I used to have really bad eyesight- my contact prescription was -8.75 in my left and -9.25 in my right eye…
Last summer I had a consultation to have LASIK or PRK done and I qualified for PRK- I had the surgery last September and it was one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made. Like you, I had been wearing glasses since 3rd grade and contacts since I was 14 so it was time for a change. I can’t even begin to describe how awesome it is to wake up in the middle of the night and see the alarm clock or walk to the bathroom without running into something because I can’t see it.
It wasn’t terribly expensive, either- for me, worth every penny!
By the way- do you have any “bottom of the jar” recipes for when I get to the bottom of my almond butter? I have a jar of crunchy mara natha and I’m not sure what to do with the little bit that is left!
Thanks!
Ah yes, another fellow blind sistah! I’m like you, I can see clearly when my hand is basically on my face.
Thankfully, I’ve been blessed with good visiont (knock on wood!). However, when I was little I really wanted glasses. I used to poke the lenses out of sunglasses and wear them around the house.
I had perfect vision until about 2 years ago, and then suddenly my eyesight started deteriorating FAST. I am now relatively useless without my contacts or glasses. My husband, on the other hand, has EAGLE EYES! I too am hoping any little ones inherit his vision.
My vision story is quite similar to yours – glasses in 3rd grade, contacts in 6th. Blind as a bat without them! But my husband, like yours, has perfect vision. I am seriously considering having Lasik done though, because I’m allergic to the proteins that build up on contact lenses. I have to wear the daily disposable lenses, which adds up, $ wise, fast!
I have granny glasses for working on the computer, and technically for reading…but i only wear them at work on the computer.
It was really cool here this morning too! Not ready for fall at all….I’m with you on that deck thing!
I wore glasses since 6th grade and contacts starting in 7th grade…and like you I was so blind I couldn’t see anything in front of me. I had no problems with contacts, but my husband talked me into getting Lasik and now it’s so weird seeing perfectly upon waking up and not worrying about carrying around all the cleaning products. He also has perfect eyes so I’m hoping our future kids take after him!
I wear glasses because I have an uncommon focusing problem. I was so sad when I was told I needed them, but I always love picking out my pair for the year. I find it funny that they always have you pick them out after they dialate your eyes. I can never tell what color any of the frames are because of the back lighting. Like you I love all things mini, and I would have definitely picked up that contact case! So cute and so exciting.
That case is adorable! I’ve worn contacts since grade 10, glasses since grade 6, probably should have worn them much earlier! Everyone says I look great with glasses, apparently I have the right face shape.. whatever the flip that means .. but contacts are just so much easier as I have a pretty strong relationship with my sunglasses! Is your hair naturally that dark? So pretty!
I inherited my dad’s astigmatism and got my first pair of glasses in kindergarten. KINDERGARTEN!!! Then I wore them for the next 20 years, until I took the plunge and got corrective eye surgery!
I’m glad I did. I don’t miss my glasses or contacts at all. Most of the time I forget that I ever even wore them. The surgery didn’t correct my vision perfectly, but I’ve been lens free for over 5 years. Eventually I’ll probably need glasses for reading, but I think I’ll be fine lens free with most daily activities from here on out. (hopefully!)
But that case is super cute!
glasses since second grade…contacts since seventh(lasik since never, i’m a chicken). i’m guilty of making the “pushing up my glasses” gesture against the bridge of my nose even when i’m not wearing them. it’s classy, lol. for some reason i’ve grown up to trust other people who wear glasses more than those who don’t, though.
So ready for Fall, it’s not even funny! I look forward to it all year long!
I’m jealous of you Iowa folks and your CRISP morning!
That mini contact case is so CUTE! I’m obsessed with mini Larabars. Rarely can find them (REI or at races occasionally), but when I do I snag them by the handfulls.
I have pretty bad vision myself. I’ve been wearing contacts/glasses since 5th grade I believe. Time for me to find some new fun glasses though so I can wear them in public on occasion when I’m feeling like it.
My sister’s blind as a bat, and has had to wear glasses since 2nd or 3rd grade…I’m not sure which side of the family she got that from, because my dad has generic-old-person eyesight (he didn’t need glasses until he was in his late 40s/early 50s) and my mom had decent eyesight till she was in her early 30′s, then it slowly went downhill. I seem to be following that path, as I got my first pair of glasses when I was 28 or 29, and while I generally don’t wear them at home unless I’m tired or have a headache, I do wear them all day long at work. Sorry for the book-long comment!
Hello, I’ve been a un-commenting reader for a long time and I just wanted to say that I really enjoy the blog =)
This might seem like a creeper question, but what’s your contact lense prescription? I ask because I’ve never met anyone with vision as bad as me and yours sounds pretty bad, so I have to ask haha!
i’ve had glasses since the 6th grade. but i wear contacts 99% of the time….glasses only from the sink to the bed!
Loved your post about Fall!
I run my dog every morning and becasue it felt so Fall-like outside today I put on his trick or treat Halloween collar
I was blessed with perfect vision but working at a computer all day it has gone down hill fast. I swear I have a permanente eye twitch from straining to look at my screen!
Have a wonderful Friday!
wow. 65 degrees…I bet that was nice! I think pnut/almond butter can go with just about anything. So yummy!
Cute glasses! Happy weekend!
Oh, I love the Fall…bring on crisp breezes and beautiful foliage.
What a cute case for contacts, I’ve worn contacts forever it seems and I have never seen anything like it!
I love miniature things too! I have a huge collection of mini bowls, spoons, foods, tupperware etcetc.
I wasn’t blessed with perfect vision, but I don’t need glasses. I had to have an eye operation at six to correct a problem I had – but now I’m all good!
Blind as a bat, here, too! Glasses in third grade and contacts since fourth! Ugh! My prescription is -8.0!
I am blind as a bat! -7.0 in both for my contact prescrip. grr!
I am blind as a bat, as well. I’ve had glasses since 2nd grade and contacts since 9th grade. I LOVE the contact carrying case. The mirror would be so helpful when traveling!! And Pink Lady apples are my favorite!
Where did you get that adorable case?! I would loooove it for traveling, actually even for every day use! Might as well embrace the inner nerd since i’m always a 4-eyes!
