Anti Fair-Food Food!

19

Hello, hello!

The wedding reception we went to last night was SO. CUTE! The couple was married in Aruba a couple months ago, and held their local reception in a party barn out in the country.

Don’t let the name fool you. This "party barn" was no run down, old farm barn and the couple decked the place out with simple, yet chic, decorations.

IMG_0337

Like lemonade & iced tea in mismatching bottles at every table. So unique!

IMG_0340

Or simple pillar candles nestled in sand to light when twilight came.

IMG_0352

I ADORED the brightly lit stars hanging from the ceiling of the barn.

IMG_0351

Aren’t they great? Casual, yet elegant. :D

IMG_0353

During the evening we dined on BBQ sandwiches & vanilla cupcakes, and sipped on sangria & beer served in custom coozies.

HA! Love it!

IMG_0349

There was also a big, breezy tent set up outside, where guests could cool off – it was a beautiful night.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – I LOVE WEDDDINGS! :)

IMG_0361

The euphoria quickly wore off as I woke up this morning and was barely able to wrench the rings off my fingers. Between the fair food, alcohol and BBQ – my system was on salt, fat & crap overload!!!

I got up early and went for a 4 mile walk, drank TONS of water, and sat down to a light lunch at my parent’s house.

IMG_0362

They too fell victim to all the fair food yesterday, so my Mom made a healthy feast of grilled chicken & pineapple with fresh fruit,

fresh corn on the cob,

and oven roasted potatoes.

Anti fair-food food!!!!

We still left room for dessert, natch.

IMG_0372

Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Fudge Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches. This is why I could never give up dessert. This sandwich right here. Unforgettable!!!!!!!

Ahhh. :D

The rest of the afternoon:

  • This week’s lunch/dinner prep
  • Laundry
  • Giving my inbox some serious TLC
  • Walk with Ben?

Have a great rest of your Sunday, everyone!

That reception has such an awesome Barefoot Contessa vibe…so cute! And that lunch may be anti-fair food, but it sure looks tasty never the less! :D

    • Love Barefoot Contessa – and you totally have that right – it does look like her style. VERY nice.

  2. It looks like such a low-key reception which is very refreshing. I hate anything too formal or precious.

I love weddings too! What an adorable concept to have the casual reception in a barn. Looks fantastic!!

Ugh, I know that feeling when you feel like you’ve overdone it on crap food. I usually start to feel this way after vacation. But it’s so easy to get right back on track and you are doing a great job of that!

  4. I love the stars on the ceiling – great touch!
And a 4mile walk with that pineapple-y lunch sounds just SO good!!

  5. I haven’t gotten into the “wedding spirit” yet at my age – probably because I’m not even dating let alone married and very few of my friends are married. But regardless, this ceremony you went to looks like a good time. Simple and sweet, as it should be. And your mom’s Sunday meal looks amazing, as always. As for the Blue Bunny…I am extremely jealous right now. I might have to look into those in the near future. Good luck with your evening activities!
    Cheers!

  6. I was also wondering if you know anything about the University of Iowa. I’m looking at Master’s programs (it’s early still, but I’m like that) and it’s listed as the top school for Creative Writing. I thought perhaps you’d know something on it since you’re in Iowa. I love doing my research, especially on a big decision like this.

Wow! I love those star lights! And those oven roasted potatoes look delicious.

  8. What a fun reception!
I have been craving roasted potatoes for a week! Finally had them last night! :)

  9. Peanut butter + chocolate = best combo ever! I have to get my hands on some of those ice cream bars. I absolutely adore your necklace, so cute!

  10. that reception location looks so cool!

Hate that feeling; totally know what you mean. I just got back from a baby shower and am kind of feeling the salt/sugar bloat. Blah.

Love the new photo of you by the way! Very Iowa and very cute.

I totally ate a whole box of those peanut butter ice cream sandwiches last week! So good, Blue Bunny can never do wrong!

It’s always such a great feeling to get to healthy eating after a bit of indulgence. Makes me remember why I love fresh and nutritious foods so much.

Kristin — Would you be willing to share where the reception was held (if it’s a public location)? My sister-in-law gets married in the summer of 2012 and this totally looks like the kind of place they’ve been trying to find for their reception. I’m a Des Moines girl, so if this is in the area, it could be perfect! Thanks!

    • Rachel 08.23.2010

Jess – this was my reception actually :) and the location is the Stonehaven Party Barn Complex in De Soto, Iowa. You should have your SIL check it out – it was absolutely perfect! Their website isn’t really up and running but this link takes you to a little bit of information on it though http://www.stonehaveniowa.com/complex.asp.
And you can contact Mary Cownie (cell 515.480.7067 or mary@goldfinchstrategies.com)for a chance to go take a look at the place. We had a blast and so glad Kristin took these photos – they are so amazing!

        Rachel –
Thanks so much for the info. I’m passing it on to my SIL right now. :) And congrats on your marriage! You had a beautiful reception!
