Hi!
I’m getting my haircut in T-minus 8 days. It’s gotten so long! I’ve forgotten, now that I have short hair, that I have to schedule a trim appointment every 5-6 weeks. Not every…7 or 8…
How often do you get your hair cut?
In other news, I’m glad I ran this morning because it’s scorching hot out there. I must have been tripping yesterday when I decided to make Crock Pot Chili for dinner tonight!
Oh yes I did!
Last night I rescued my crock pot from it’s summer-long slumber underneath piles and piles of serving trays in the cupboard, and loaded it up with all my chili ingredients. (What, you didn’t think you’d throw millions of parties when registering for your wedding gifts, only to come and find out that you don’t and now you have more serving trays than Martha Stewart?)
Anyways, like I said, I filled my crock pot up with all my chili ingredients last night – tomato sauce, shredded chicken, beans, spices, etc. – and let it hang in the fridge overnight.
When I left for work, I plugged that baby in and let my chili simmer and bubble away all day long.
I had actually completely forgotten about it until I walked in the door this afternoon and smelled the sweet scent of dinner all ready to go!
I served some Pretzel Bread on the side for dunking.
I bought this loaf to use for hot turkey & swiss sandwiches later this week, but I just couldn’t resist tearing into it tonight!
IT IS SENSATIONAL!!!!
Soft & squishy – it tastes just like a giant pretzel – complete with the lightly salty coating on top. It actually wasn’t that great dipped in the chili, so I devoured the hunks solo. That’s hunks plural. As in, the loaf is sitting approx 5 inches away from my wandering hand as I type this. Ok, there, I shut it.
I used my regular smoky, sweet Chicken Chili recipe, but instead of fresh garlic & onions, I used dehydrated onion and garlic powder. Couldn’t tell the diff.
Serve with crumbled saltines,
and cheddar cheese.
I’m glad I did!
In other news, I’m having one of those days where I feel like I have so much to do that I don’t even know where to start – so I’m just kind of sitting here until I can wrap my brain around it all.
I think I’ll start a list. I am the QUEEN of lists. Heeeere I go!
Have a good night, everyone!

Are you ready to turn on your crock pot yet?

I made chili today, too! It’s rainy and cold in RI so a hearty meal fit the bill.
After these past few chilly, rainy days, I am definitely ready for fall crock potting adventures! Mmm
I am so ready to turn on the crocker . Am in search of new recipes though because I feel like i make the same 5 things over and over. Your chicken chili ( have never had chicken chili before ) looks and sounds amazing . May have to give it a go with leftover chicken .
The last time I tried to use my crock pot it was a disaster. I didn’t realize that I’m out of the house for almost 11 hours most days. Oops. That said, it’s a scorcher here too but that chili looks dang good! And the bread? YES!
Chili is a staple in my house, but I haven’t been able to eat it the past few times my mama has made it because in the heat it just didn’t sound appealing to me…yours looks absolutely delicious though!!
I am making crockpot chili tomorrow to take with me to a conference.
I was crazy enough to run in the Midwest heat today. At 3p.m. Am I insane?!!? No Crockpot here yet, but sooooon enough, and this chili recipe will be the first thing happenin! Looks scrumptious!!! And haircuts….no comment, I wait waaaaaay to long (as in last December) Oops.
I just made some awesome shredded barbecue pork in my crockpot. I used a new recipe, so easy- best I’ve ever had and I don’t even like pork very much (haven’t cooked it in eons)! I have long hair and I’m bad about getting trims. I try to go every 2 months and I’m currently trying to let some awful layers grow out…you know, when you try a new stylist and they decide to not listen to you and do their own thing? Grrr!
I’ve never heard of pretzel bread?!?! I am the queen of lists too–just call me the “list lady.” I get my hair cut every 8 weeks because my hair is long. BTW, I love your new picture on the side–iowa + corn–gotta love it!
Haha that picture of you is so cute. It looks like the fork is about to cut your hair itself!
I never really put my crock pot away but it definitely gets more use in the winter. Although, chili is fantastic anytime of year, so maybe it’s a reason to start’er up again.
The pretzel bread looks amazing!!!
Where did you get that pretzel bread and why didn’t I know this existed?! Chilli sounds awesome…
I have been using my crock pot a lot lately. It has been so hot, I don’t want to heat up my kitchen or even stand at the hot grill. I found some good crock pot recipes for Beefy Beans, Hoppin’ John and many others. Cooking Light has a good healthy crock pot cookbook I got from the library. Yum!
Chili looks so good! I’ve never actually thought to put chicken in chili. It’s always ground beef at my house. But next time, I will have to try this!
Weird, I considered putting chili in my rotation for this week, too. I get my hair get every 8 weeks on the NOSE! I am behind now, though, because I am growing my hair out for Locks For Love!
You know, it’s really a shame that most Crock Pots are banished to the cupboard during the summer. In theory, they should be used MORE! Since it’s so hot outside, the thought of turning on the oven just makes me sweat because it gives off so much heat, while the crock pot is an isolated cooking heat and requires so much less work. Win win!
I’m actually rescuing my CP this week to make some shrimp creole
I recommend this recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/shrimp-creole-recipe/index.html
And, don’t fret like I originally did… it’s a ridiculously healthy recipe even if you don’t consider that it’s by Paula Butter O’Cream
Oh I love my crockpot! I love any excuse to use my crockpot! I’ve been using this santa fe chicken recipe in my crockpot and it has been delish! http://roses-on-my-table.blogspot.com/2010/08/you-make-my-life-so-much-easier.html
Chili looks great even with the scorching temps. Although it supposed to cool down here in NW Iowa for the rest of the week!
I love making lists to so I make sure and tackle it all!
Pretzel Bread???!!!! Oh Lord, I hope I never find that….
Used my crockpot today to make your recipe for BBQ pulled pork with the Coke Zero. YUM! (Hubby is thrilled to have leftovers for lunch too!)
I only get my hair cut every 10-12 weeks. I admit to being REALLY bad about it. It is longer now so I can get by with it, but I wish I made the effort to go more often.
Haha…I love lists too! I constantly have a notebook with me to keep to-do lists, grocery lists, movies/books to see/read lists…you name it.
That chili looks great!
I’ve actually been using my crock pot a lot this summer to cook my dried beans. No simmering on a hot stove for me!
I can’t wait to break out the crockpot. Hot simmering food at the end of a chilly workday is looovely. It’s like some sweet grandma was home all day and making me dinner.
I hated the need to get my haircut more frequently when it was short – I ended up growing it for just that reason.
I am about to break out the crock pot for a chili this weekend – I hope to freeze most of it for quick weeknight meals!
Oh my goodness! I just planned out our meals for the rest of the week and decided to break out my crock pot for french dip on Wednesday!
I can’t wait. And tonight I actually made your honey-sesame baked tofu…it was delicious! I made some extra ‘fu to go into an asian salad for tomorrow night and am really looking forward to it.
Good luck with your list!
Pretzel bread? Yummilicious!!! Do you have to buy that at a specialty shop?
I have pulled out the crockpot ONCE this summer and it was make easy pulled pork. It is really about to start getting a workout!!
Can’t wait to try some wonderful CP recipes this fall/winter
Ok now back to the pretzel bread……LOL
i go forever in between hair cuts. it’s really bad. but i have been nice to my hair this summer. i can only think of about 1 occasion that i have dried my hair for since mid-june. the rest of the time i just mousse it, scrunch it, and go! i don’t like the way it looks as much as dried & straightened, but it’s so much easier and i hate drying my hair in the scorching heat of summer anyways.
I have to admit I pulled out my crockpot during the 90 degree weather. Nothing like a steaming hot bowl of comfort food! With the a/c cranked of course
That chili recipe looks delicious! I love how you used shredded chicken rather than ground. I have to try that!
Yes! I’ve used the crock some this summer too. Sadly, my hubs and I are gone to long most days for us to use one. We have one with a timer, but it’s way to big for our needs. So we also have a smaller one without a timer. Chili is big thing where I live. We eat it year round, we even have fast food restaurants that just focus on CHILI!
Thanks so much for the tips on the food processor! I think I need one.
I’m embarrassed to say how long it’s been since I got a haircut…seriously need to get that done!
I have the opposite problem with serving trays. I didn’t register for any, and now find that I wish I had at least some!
I am in no way, shape, or form ready for the crock pot…still way too hot!
For a good stretch of time, I didn’t get my haircut from November until about three days ago. It was ridiculous….it felt so good to get rid of those dead ends!
Yes! I was ironically just looking up crockpot recipes when I decided to check out IGE….crazy! The chili looks delish!
I like your hair long! It’s really cute either way–so sleek. My haircuts are far and few between. I had my haircut mid June and don’t plan to do it again until the first week in Sept. I’m donating 10 inches to locks of love. I just need to get it to a decent length so I can pull it back when I run. It’s crazy long now and gets caught between the chair and my back when I sit down. Even when I’m not growing it out I don’t get it cut that often.
I love the old crock pot! I am so ready to fire it up again. I haven’t used it as much this summer but it’s perfect for when you don’t want to turn on the oven but you need to feed 5 people!
your hair looks lovely! always so shiny and healthy looking!
My crock pot has been in a deeeep hibernation all summer, hehe:)
I have heard magnificent things about pretzel bread!
I’ve had the biggest chili craving the past few weeks, but I was afraid it was too early to eat it – after all, it’s still in the 90s around here! I did use my crock pot yesterday to make Kath’s Summer Herb Soup….crock pots are a life saver if you have class and work all day!
Haha, and I don’t get my hair cut often enough at all…it usually goes 3-4 months
That bread looks so good. I would love to eat something out of the crockpot. I’m craving real foods, soups, stews…yum.
I am SO READY for Fall and, therefore, ready for my crock pot! I am in love with you baked potato soup. I think it’s calling my name!!
I’mmm so excited for fall. In fact, I just did a post about it the other day. I did leave off the crockpot on my favorite Fall things though! Maybe I should go back and add it!! Oh and PRETZEL BREAD?? Why have I never heard of such a thing?! I needed to find this yesterday! lol
That bread looks amazing! Were actually crock-potting it up this week!
I have the same crock pot! I love the timer and auto shut-off.
i cooked chickpeas in my crockpot today!
