Sweet Tooth = Satisfied!

Good morning!

I was working on a freelance article last night and, umm…ate the article. Hence no dinner to report! Ok, well, not the actual article, just the dishes I made to write about. They were super tasty and I’ll be sure to share the recipes when they’re published!

Updates:

Today is the FINAL day to vote for my Homemade Pasta & Pasta allo Scoglio for Project Food Blog Challenge #2. I can still taste those scallops… Anyways, I accidently gave you the wrong link the other day so, here’s the correct one! Your support means the world to me. :D

Pray:

It appears the praying mantis has setup permanent residence in our front yard. Every time I go out he’s in a new place, but I’ve yet to see him move an INCH! I’m sure he’s thinking…if I don’t move, then maybe they won’t see me…um, NO. I am this close to getting a broom and making the street in front of my house it’s new permanent residence. I’ll totally do it! Don’t test me mantis!

Although I will admit, it’s kind of fun to come out and play “where’s mantis?;)

The winner of the oh-so-fabulous TofuXpress Tofu Press is…

Laura: definitely a current tofu lover. and with the onset of fall, i’ve already made my first batch of tofu chili…..SO DELICIOUS

Congrats Laura! Email me your mailing address @ iowagirleats@gmail.com!

In other news…

I had a CRAZY bad sweet tooth yesterday that seemingly could not be squashed (pun intended.) I had some leftover pumpkin in the fridge, so I whipped up a batch of Pumpkin Muffins last night to satisfy my cravings!

DSC_0001

I followed Picky Cook’s recipe (GREAT site!) except I used no-sugar added, natural applesauce in place of the oil, and only 1 cup of sugar. I also nixed the cinnamon-sugar topping.

DSC_0004

Ohhh, they are so good! Full of Autumn spice, crazy moist and super dense.

DSC_0007

I had two muffins smeared with a little butter for breakfast. How good are buttered muffins, btw?!

DSC_0009

Pumpkin Pie Pancakes on Monday, Baked Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal on Tuesday, and now Pumpkin Muffins?! Who am I? Do you like pumpkin flavored foods?

I’ve got a massive Pizza Salad for lunch today.

DSC_0013

In the mix:

  • Mixed greens
  • Spinach
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Tomato
  • Pepperoni
  • Feta cheese
  • Salad Supreme seasoning

DSC_0014

Tastes just like a pizza from the salty pepperoni, zippy feta cheese and the zesty salad supreme seasoning. This seasoning blend has cheese, garlic powder, paprika, sesame seeds, etc. and makes everything in my salad pop!

DSC_0018

It’s the same seasoning mix that I use to make Grandpa’s Pasta Salad, and you can find it right in the spice aisle.

DSC_0015

Duh-duh-dum…I picked up a Sweet Tango Apple at the store last weekend, after it got such RAVE reviews from all of you last week, and I’m bringing it to crunch on this afternoon.

DSC_0023

It’s smaller than a Honeycrisp but it looks just as crispy, which I like.

DSC_0028

I’ll let you know how it tastes tonight!

Three Question Thursday

I remembered Three Question Thursday again today – whee! Here ya’ go!

1. What was the name of your first pet?

2. If you don’t know the number calling your cell phone, do you answer?

3. What’s your lucky number?

My answers:

1. Boomer. He was a HUGE golden retriever that my brothers and I used to ride like a horse when we were little! Sadly, he got too big for the house and yard, so he went to “live on a farm.” At least…that’s what my parents told us… :?

2. No way!

3. 6

1)First Pet: Buster. A St Bernard which I used to ride like a horse :)
2)I never answer the phone if I don’t know the number! I don’t know what people did before caller id.
    3) I don’t know if it’s lucky, but my favorite # is 44. No coincidence I fell in love with Dallas Clark when he played at Iowa. I’m not sure if it was his #, or his sweet ‘tight end’.

im pretty sure my first ever pet was a fish named sebastian. my dad thought his tan needed some flair, so he scrubbed a cool rock with anti-bacterial soap and dropped it inside. not too much longer we were flushing sebastian down the porcelain throne…

i used to never answer (i think i’m afraid of being caught off guard!) but now i actually do!

    lucky number is 8!!

My first pet as a child was Butterscotch, our golden retriever. However, we lived across the street from a dairy farm and he was constantly getting loose and chasing the cows. Sadly, mom and dad found a better home for him where he’d be less of a nuisance to our neighbors :(

My first pet of my own is Griffy, my lhasa apso… I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old (he’s now 1.5 years!) He’s the love of my life ;)

I NEVER answer if I don’t know the number. I figure if it’s important, they can leave me a voicemail!

And my lucky number is 2.

    2. Depends on where it looks like it’s coming from… if it’s a weird area code, no way.
    3. 9, no real reason.. it just seems to pop up a lot. :)

    2) Nope. My parents always do and I don’t understand it. They’re thinking is “what if it’s important/emergency” … then they had better call 911 and not me huh?

    3) Don’t really have one, I’ll work on that.

My first pet was Copper, a cocker spaniel. Sadly, she was hit by a truck after she ran between my grandpa’s legs to get out of the yard while he was carrying in my BIRTHDAY cake!!! (How’s that for making that question depressing?) Needless to say, that was traumatizing for my grade school self.

I NEVER used to answer random phone calls but now my job requires me to use my cell, so I get calls from all sorts of numbers. So, to answer, I always answer them before 5:00 PM and almost NEVER after. :)

Lucky number? 6. I have no idea why.

Now that that’s all done and squared up, can I PLEEEEEASE have a pumpkin muffin? One of my favorite fall time dessert recipes is a chocolate pumpkin cake. Oh, so tasty! I think it’s time to break that out again for the year.
