I’m Moving On…

It’s finally Friday – whee! I’ve had wicked day later syndrome for the past three days, ie all day Wednesday I thought it was Thursday, etc., which makes today all the more sweet. The weekend is actually in sight!! :D

Well last night I got bit by a bug. The snack bug! Like a woman possessed,  I gobbled everything in sight. Mini Larabars, Ben’s nachos and Buffalo Chicken Dip, oh my! Therefore I kept breakfast light with a yummy, Yoloupe Bowl.

DSC_0040

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cantaloupe, seeded
  • 1 Pineapple Chobani Greek Yogurt
  • 1/2 scoop chia seeds
  • sliced almonds

DSC_0037

I debated using my tropical island-esque pineapple yogurt to make Pina Colada Oatgurt, a spin on my pina colada oatmeal, but the allure of an edible bowl was just too strong. :)

DSC_0042

Do you like melon? Cantaloupe used to make my throat itch, but now I adore it. Not a huge fan of honey dew though…

DSC_0044

Ok, so lunch isn’t the cutest, but it sure tastes good! Leftover Microwaved Butternut Squash Risotto!

DSC_0023

I was this close to saving the leftover risotto to make Arancini (cold risotto stuffed with meat & cheese then fried, omg!) like we had in Italy.

005

Those babies were $.50 at the local pizza shop in Praiano, and we felt like little arancinis after ordering a ton of them one night. Oh I miss Italy!!!

 DSC_0020 (2)

I also packed a bigger-than-my-head Honeycrisp Apple to crunch on. Swoon.

DSC_0025

Oh – the Sweet Tango Apple I tried yesterday? Tastes like a Braeburn, but definitely has the crunch factor of a Honeycrisp. A fine swap if you don’t feel like paying the outrageous price for an HC.

DSC_0024

Although, locals: Honeycrisps are on sale for under $2/lb at Hy-vee this week, and some people told me they’re also on sale at Fareway. Score!

Oh, there’s a sweet Pumpkin Muffin packed for dessert. Irresistible. :)

DSC_0050

In other news, I’m heading out to happy hour this afternoon with some co-workers. We’re celebrating an upcoming wedding for a friend at work, and also the end of an era for me. I got a new job!

It’s true!! After thinking very long and hard, I’ve chosen to say goodbye to my employer of 3 years, a large publishing company, and say hello to a small, non-profit that I’m SO EXCITED to begin working for. I’m sad to leave the friends I’ve made behind (we’ll still keep in touch!) but also thrilled to start a new chapter in my work life. I’ll give you more deets on Monday. :D :D :D

Hey, maybe THAT’s why this week has been going so slow…! ;)

Have a wonderful Friday and a great start to your weekend!

~~~~~
What’s been your favorite job? Your least favorite?
My favorite job was as a barista at a local coffee shop in high school. Free mochas, lattes and food. Yes!
My least favorite was actually my very first job – sacking groceries at a local grocery store. Pure torture, I tell you!
    My favorite job was working as a RA in college and grad school (yes I lived on campus for 5 years!) There is nothing more rewarding than seeing one of your students tackle so many obstacles and then graduate!
    Least favorite job was waiting tables at a retirement community.
    Congratulations to you on the new job! Apart from being a writer, publishing is what I want to go into for my career. Hearing that’s what you did makes me happy, but non-profit is a great field to work in. Good for you!
    My favorite job is actually where I’m at now. I didn’t like working the call center much where I was, but being on the Web team at my job is working out very well. I have a lot of fun with my team and I feel that we do really good work and help people. It’s not my dream job, by any means, but it’s a great job to have while I’m in college.
    Happy Friday! Have a good weekend!
    My favorite job has to be my first “real” job out of grad school, a meteorologist for a small company in North Dakota. I currently work for the state and am making a transfer soon, to the Iowa Great Lakes region–only an hour away from family. I will miss all my co-workers in Des Moines, but I will really enjoy being closer to family and living in a smaller community.
    Least favorite job–lifeguard at our local pool in high school. Man, I don’t know how easy I had it!! : )
    Good luck in your new venture!
    My favorite job has to be my current job at the Thymes, the corporate office of an upscale bath & body company where I am a receptionist & have been for the past 10 years. Love it!
    Least favorite – probably would have to be the summer I was a cocktail server at Spaghetti Works on Court Ave in DSM. Sore feet, rude customers, getting the drink orders mixed up (ha ha!) or the worst–spilling a drink on a customer. Tips were good though.
    I worked for 5.5 years at an on campus daycare at an elementary school (I started when I was 15.) Then I worked as a nanny for 6.5 years, until I went back to school last year (now I babysit around my schedule.) My favorite job is every single job that I’ve had in those 12 years, honestly I’ve loved every one of them equally……EXCEPT for my least favorite job, which was when I moved from San Diego (where I grew up) to Santa Barbara, and took a job as a nanny in Montecito. Montecito is the super fancy area of Santa Barbara, where lots of famous people (Oprah, Tom Cruise, etc) have houses. I worked there for 2 weeks and it’s the only job I’ve ever quit. I was taking care of a 4 year old and an 18 month old, who barely ever saw their parents (I got there at 8am and there was already a “night nurse” there, and when I left at 4pm, someone else took over. The 4 year old was a major brat but you can’t really blame her. The mom was on the Atkins diet, and she wouldn’t let her kids eat fruit (too much sugar,) but they were fed about 3 hot dogs a day (EACH!) The last straw was a dual last straw- first, the mom wanted me to drive the 18 month old around, in my car, without a carseat! She didn’t put the baby in a carseat in her car either!!! She said it wasn’t necessary. She just belted the baby in. It blew my mind. Second- when she hired me, she had asked me if I would be willing to go to New York with them for 4 days. The kids would actually stay with their grandma, and I would just take care of them part of the day. The rest of the day I could go around town, and they would give me money to spend. Awesome, right?! Well, after my first week she let me know that the trip had actually turned into a month, and I’d be alone with the kids all the time….while the parents went out of the country!!! WHAT?! I told her I wasn’t comfortable with it being for so long, and that I would also miss my boyfriend’s birthday and our anniversary, and I didn’t feel comfortable being solely responsible for 2 kids while their parents were so far away. She told me I HAD to go, and that I shouldn’t think that my boyfriend’s birthday or our anniversary was that important, because we would break up soon anyways. Can you believe that?! (btw we’re still together, 5 years later….but she’s not married anymore.) I let her know that I didn’t think we were a good match, and I’d work for her until she found another person. She yelled at me to just leave. ha! So I did, and I literally got a job the next day, for a great family. I worked for them until their kid started school.
    Congratulations! That’s so exciting to hear. Hmm I’m hoping that my favorite job will be when I graduate this May and *hopefully* find a job as a teacher! Least favorite job…actually probably my job right now. I’m a student worker on campus and it can be pretty boring!
    Oh btw this morning I made oatmeal inspired by your pumpkin creations. It was so good. I made overnight oats with oats, vanilla almond milk, a scoop of pumpkin butter, a scoop of vanilla Greek yogurt, cinnamon, chia seeds, almonds, a banana, and this morning I topped it with half a graham cracker crumbled on top. That made the bowl!
    My favourite job was a waitress at a little Italian restaurant in my first college town. It wasn’t so much the job as the people. We were all good friends and would go out together all the time and I used to go into the restaurant to hang out even when I wasn’t working!
    My least favourite job was also a waitressing job but at a DIFFERENT restaurant. With restaurant work the manager and people you work with make all the difference!
